I dunno about that mate, Bale may be over-hyped, certainly in the English press but Bale is a very, very talented footballer and a left-footed left-winger at that.
Would I pay 80 million quid for him as Redknapp claims? No, but I'd hit Spurs up with 40-45 million and test their resolve; I reckon he's got a taste for the big games now and would want a move...

We paid 16m (allegedly) for a right footed, Ecuadorian version of him in Valencia and people were complaining we got mugged and you would be willing to pay more than double for Bale? :wenger:

Funny how he's been best utilised as a right-sided winger for the majority of the season with Valencia missing.
Yes, he has drifted left too, both during Valencia out and now he's back he's still playing well, but his best position for us is right-wing.
And don't argue with me or I'll chop the arms of your shirts Alwyn, if you have any shirts that aren't sleeveless...

I think I may have exaggerated but he'd definitely be pricey, thirty-mil plus, easy for a twenty-one year old of his ability is value in the current market.
And pardon my natural penchant to argue but he was injured for some time, having recently come back to the fray and his performances against Arsenal and the reigning European champions were top notch, the whole of Europe were up in arms over it - that is what he is capable of and what he can and will do, not every single match, but he will do for a bigger club than Spurs and in losing the best British winger since Matthews in the next year or two, here we have the next best British winger since Giggs started for us possibly available since Spurs are most likely not playing European football next season.

So you dismiss Sanchez for looking good on youtube clips (ie. sporadic games/moments) and then admit Bale's reputation is largely built up around a handful of games?

Err...who else did we have who could play right-wing in Valencia's absence?

When Nani switches to the left, he doesn't turn into a worse player, he doesn't lose any confidence, he doesn't lose any ability. It even gives him more of a chance to shoot with his stronger foot.

I've quoted two different posts of yours now, and I think we might have got into a 2-quote debate here.

I would pay money for Bale, and keep Nani and Valencia as winger options; when one/both of Nani & AV are out, we look weak.
Having three top quality wingers is good for longevity and maintenance of the squad, plus Nani can drift either side, Bale and AV are best in their natural footed positions only.

Erm, no - I watched Bale have a top notch second half of last seaosn when he did the same to Arsenal and Chelsea and began to look the player he was hyped as when at Southampton, it was like he was another man, and he started this season in the same vein until he slowed down, obviously with a niggle, around November.

As per my previous post brother, no-one; that's the point. We can have three top notch wingers with one who can float comfotably either wing with two who are the best with their natural foot in the league as a righty and a left respectively.

No doubting his ability SR but the guy is developing some serious injury issues which the club(Utd) are aware of.Putting in an offer, which Spurs will clearly refuse, amounts to a huge risk and I doubt Utd will go there again after the Hargreaves situation.

Rooney's also had a few serious injury issues in the time he's been with us but I'd buy him all over again, wouldn't you?

As Pogue said.

I'd buy Bale.... but his injury problems are far more serious than Rooney's, just look at the way he was moving last night,Spurs took a gamble on his fitness. I'd be shocked if Utd even though they recognise his talent will make an offer

When did Rooney ever miss as much football as Bale has, these last few years?

You know what, he's not missed all that much football for United but he has had some serious injuries none-the-less, in 2004, 2006 and more recently in 2010 (twice) which luckily have almost always come in the summer or toward the end of the season meaning England lost out more than us, but at 24 as he was having three major injuries is concerning.

So is the incredible Di Maria. Who unlike Bale is equally as comfortable on either flank and is helping consign Kaka to the Madrid bench. Yet gets next to no hype at all.

Right now I wouldn't blow 50m quid on him. Even though I like him as a player.

Yep, Di Maria is a much bigger talent than Bale.

Bale is horribly overhyped, says a lot that he's in the running for PoTY and the blatantly most deserving player of the award, Nani, isn't.

We do need a left footed winger though, I think, but £30m+? No way.

Di Maria and Bale are both fantastic talents. I was against us signing Di Maria last summer simply because I felt Nani and Valencia were too good to be on the bench. But in hindsight and considering Valencia's injury I think Di Maria is the player who moved clubs last season that could have greatly enhanced us in the season we have had.

I would choose Bale over him though as Di Maria is very very hit and miss, like Nani in previous seasons. For me Bale has better decision making and crossing.

Does anyone else think Bale is very similar to Valencia?

They are both incredibly quick and strong. However, they don't possess the flair and unpredictably that a player like Nani has. This is not always a bad thing.

I would say that Bale has more to his game than Valencia, but Valencia is more reliable and consistent.

Bale is great, but he is not yet among the world's elite, although he may be in the future. He is still very young.

They're very similar. Valencia is a much more composed player who has an eye for a pass whereas Bale is a bit more direct and has a better finish on him.

Bale is probably slightly better and is a bit more of matchwinner but Valencia as you said is very consistent.

Bale will be one of the best in the world in a few years imo.

He's got so many strengths.

No PL goal for Bale since August and no PL assist since November 2nd.

Bale is fantastic, I'd love to have him at United but that won't happen this summer, but still hope for the future.

Bale is worth around 30 Million Max I would say. He is often unplayable because of his pace and ability to score some nice goals and he has the kind of attitude that`s every managers dream. I wouldnt be surprised at all if Man City forked out a crazy amount like 65 Million on him though to boost their clubs image and marketing strategy! I think they might persue Sanchez first though!

According to a bit of speculation in the Guardian, Bale might be on his way if Spurs don't finish in the top 4. Apparently, he's got a taste for CL football. He's supposed to have dropped hints in the Spanish press that he would consider moving to the continent. Probably all bolocks but you never know.

If Bale's agent is smart he'll try and engineer a huge money move soon and cash in on the interest. He could spend a season at Real Madrid and earn millions, fail to deliver and then move back to the PL and have a decent enough career at one of the top clubs.

The journos all had an CL hospitality away day at Spurs, who got them well dined & pissed up for the Inter tie and they've been raving about Bale ever since.

The Inter match added 10 million and his nationality another 10. Objectively, he's worth around 20 million imo.

He is incredibly quick and he's got room for improvement, but I don't think he'll ever be among 20 best in the world.
