He's been horrid since returning from injury. 40m? Give me Modric at 45 over him please. He was class again today. He'd be perfect for us.

Agreed. Modric would be the safer bet, wonderful player, every bit as good as Fabregas.

I too think Modric would fit the bill at United perfectly. The only let down is he needs to improve in front of goal but that's not enough of a reason not to get him.

I think he'll stay at Spurs if they secure top 4 though.

Well its not likely that they'll come 4th now with trips to City, Liverpool and Chelsea still to come. So hopefully we go for Modric. It will make our midfield just so much better than it is right now.

A front four of Rooney Chicha nani Valencia with Carrick and Modric behind them is so good on paper.

And yes he does need to improve in front of goal but its been a long time since we had anyone scoring from midfield so it wont be that big a deal.

Not sure about 'every bit as good as Fabregas', but he is bloody good, and far better than Bale.

I'm shocked anyone would argue against it after this season to be honest, and tonight I thought he easily outshone Fabregas and was head and shoulders the best central midfielder on the pitch.

The tactic of having Chesney smash him every time he got near worked well. Not for Bale, obviously.

:D true

The first "smashing" was his own fault though, he should've been trying to bring the ball down rather than letting it bounce and hoping he could bully the keeper... got his just desserts there imo.

For some reason its not okay to overhype Bale, but its a great idea to overhype Modric

It's fine to hype Bale to the best player in the country.... when he is. Tonight was more evidence that he isn't there yet.

It's also fine to hype Modric as being one of the best midfielders in the country because quite frankly he is, and he's shown that again tonight, he was the best midfielder on the pitch without question.

I was a fan of Modric before it was popular to be one, but now it seems he is in danger of becoming overrated.

He would be great in our side though, and perfect alongside Carrick.

I would also love to swap Anderson for Sandro.

Its not hype if a player is actually on the level of what you're talking about. Its true there's been a lot of hype about Bale.

But there's a lot about Modric too. And Fabregas was better but playing a different role. VDV was also better but again playing a different role.

Can't agree with that, Fabregas was absolutely not better than Modric this evening.

He made 27 successful passes and 8 unsuccessful

Fabregas made 57 with 14 unsuccessful, 1 assist

VDV made 31 passes...

Modric was very quiet first half.

These numbers dont tell you everything, but they tell you a lot. Saying he's as good as Fabregas or worth £40 million+ as some have said, absolute madness. Overhype

I'd have to disagree with you there, Fabregas was every bit as good tonight but was unlucky to be playing for the inferior team(just about) on the night.

Fabregas is far more of a goal threat than Modric but other than that there's not that much between them based on this season's form. Fabregas has been, and I'm sure will be again, better than either he or Modric have been this season.

I wonder if people would still have the same opinions if there was a realistic chance of us being able to sign Cesc, my guess is no. If any player in the league could properly replace Scholes it would be him for me.

No, just no. Modric isnt fit to lace Cesc's boots unfortunately. Fabregas will get you more goals, more creativity and is a better passer. Sadly, he's the closest thing to Paul Scholes and we'll never have him.

It is not like Fabregas is injury free. He is more injury prone than Modric. Or maybe they are at the same level.

He's not better than Fabregas but he probably was on the night. It'll be amusing when he's Spurs POTY.

He won't - that's about the first time he's turned up since Xmas.

Wont stop you doing well with awards

See Bale and Nasri

He's Spurs top scorer by a distance, he's created their most goals and been their transfer to have the biggest influence in their first season far more-so than any of their other current starters. He's their match winner more often than Bale and far more often than Modric.

If you think VdV should get it over Modric you're thicker than the average Spurs fan's compendium of the years in which they've not won the league.

If you think Modric deserves it most, you're as thick as I think you are. Exactly that thick. So I might be right twice.

Fabregas came close to winning it more than once, I dont think its as cut and dry as you think, I thought Fabregas was rather good in the game, Modric was extremely impressive though and the game was a great watch.

I used to ignore you because you patently don't have a clue - I think I'll go back to that, you're a waste of space really - a monoquote chief as I said before.

Shame about his injuries, but not surprised, he seem hurt all the time as soon as he get's a tackle.

I quite often forget to quote people, or cant be bothered. Seems you know as much about me as you know about football in general :D

But while the Chief has been brought up, hardly my favourite poster. Most of the time he has some kind of point in his posts and argues them with passion. You could stand to learn a thing or two from him and with that said I dont envy your position.

Modric has been Spurs best and most consistent player a by a HUGE landslide this year. I don't that's even close, the debate of whos been their second best between Bale and VdV might be tougher...

Guess it's all about DEM STATS though. Remind me, how many pens does VdV have again? Hasn't he also missed two? -_-

Modric was excellent last night.

He's the hub of the Spurs team - nearly everything goes throygh him. His movement is good, he works hard and rarely ever gives the ball away and does a great job for the team linking defence and attack.

perhaps he's not quite as good as Fabreags - but you're comparing him to one of the best players in the PL and he's not far off.

He's had a magnificent season and is easily one of the best players in the PL in his position. Incidentally he's exactly the sort of player United need without Scholes.

I've actually been a fan of Modric since I saw him play for Croatia against England. A lot of people on here didnt think he was all that or could play central midfield when he first went to Spurs, again I thought he was a good player and was fine in there. But then when he moved to central midfield people went potty over him. Its just because he plays in the premier league and he's a classy player, basically anyone who does that is amazing according to redcafe. Regardless I still think he's a really good player but you guys go well over the top and yesterday's performance was not as good as he usually is, nor was he the "hub" of Spurs. More went through Huddlestone and VDV.

Having said that, he continued to impress me in another area which I dont think has been mentioned on here or I missed it. He'd do a great job replacing current Scholes, but the Scholes of years ago was a far better player and there are other midfielders who would do a better job of giving us some of the things he used to give us when he was at his best, as well as what he gives us now. And I dont think current Scholes is worth the £40 million or whatever pricetag people keep hyping up for Modric, either.
