Gareth Bale | Linked with United again

More than age it has to do with the quality of the player. Like Dybala will cost more than Lukaku even though they are around the same age and Ronaldo will cost more than Bale even though Ronaldo is 4 years older.
That's true, but it's difficult to quantify the quality of a player without using Fifa stats

Reading this, someone would think he has only been injured for half a season and was tearing it up till then.
How could anyone ask to put loads of money on a player who has spent a good matter of time on hospital bed for last 3 seasons is ridiculous. Not to mention that PL is a much more physical league than La Liga.

He's no different to Luke Shaw, for example. How much playing time have we got out of him? The way people go on about him, you'd think he was an absolute crock, which he ain't. He scored a couple of goals yesterday and he has played in the PL you know!

I think the future for Bale is central. If he is fit, he will have a good 2 or 3 years at United. He is however by no means cost effective and I'm just not sure that Bale will retain the motivation or desire to prove himself again.

How many of the top players will be cost effective though? Do you really think that Barcelona are getting value for money with Coutinho?? They will never recoup the money they're shelling out on him. The 'value' is really based on winning titles and trophies. If we only got 12 good months out of Bale, but during that period, he helped us to win a league title and Champions League trophy, everybody would be saying he turned out to be a good purchase.

No. He is not the same as Luke Shaw. Shaw is our player. Bale is not our player. Shaw is being given a chance only because he is still in our books.

What is an absolute crock? Someone who plays zero games a season? What about 5? What about 15? At what point would you start saying a player is not crock? He scoring some goals here and there has no significance given how his last 3 seasons have panned out.
(14/15 - 31 games, 15/16 - 23 games, 16/17 - 19 games)

He has played in PL when his legs were not giving away so easily. So let us not conveniently forget what happened after he went to La Liga and talk of his PL experience which was years back.

Well what would you class as a crock?? And just because Shaw is a United player, shouldn't make any difference. You're just contradicting yourself.

I am not contradicting anything. You are just turning a blind eye to the fact that Bale has gone drastically from an immense talent to a player who is not able to complete half the no of games in a season.

There, corrected for you. See how easy it is?

Bale is financially too much of a big risk. Better of waiting for the next Bale to come along and go all in for him instead.

Unfortunately, I'm starting to think that this is likely to happen. United will undoubtedly be looking to add a star attacker, to help both on and off the pitch. Griezmann looks increasingly likely to to to Barcelona. They're almost certainly going to win the league, and are taking significant steps to strengthen nonetheless. Madrid will feel the pressure. If Hazard leaves Chelsea, it will be for Madrid, not United. Dybala, to me, also seems more likely to go to Real Madrid than United, assuming Juventus is willing to sell him. Moreover, both Hazard and Dybala, if sold, would go for monstrous fees. Who would be left for United that would tick enough boxes? Bale would cost a bomb when you consider his age and injury record, but he may be attainable and, relative to players like Hazard and Dybala, a "bargain". I'd steer clear of him, but I could definitely see the club trying to get him in the summer.

Sign him Up. I don't understand why all the hate on Bale. If we could get him for 60 million, would people not want him? Especially when players like Malcolm are being quoted at 40 million?

Every business deal has inherent risk associated with it, but Bale is a top 5 talent in the world. If you can get him for a team friendly deal; then its a no-brainier to take him over someone like Malcolm that has "potential."

Why are fans even giving this any fuel by responding all of a sudden? It was inactive and essentially all but dead. Giving it attention is what leads to “reporters” making up stories because they know there are fans who’ll eat it up for no reason and make something into nothing.

Bale to United makes no sense whatsoever and won’t happen. Maybe 3 years ago it would have but not now.

1. United won’t pay more than £60M for him
2. RM would want far more than that from us anyways
3. United won’t do RM any favours after the DDG/Morata situations either so they can enjoy recouping the money from some other sorry club
4. It’s just not going to happen

Good job trying to drive the conversation on to Shaw, because you dont want to discuss Bale. What Shaw is and is not has nothing to do with Bale.
If Shaw was available and a crocked player like Bale, playing for Sou'ton, no one would have wanted him.

Agreed.

I have a feeling that we will end up buying Bale out of desperation to get something to excite the fans next season.

We are absolutely desperate to sign a world class attacker. Recent history suggests we will struggle very, very hard to achieve this.

Exactly, you can see he's steadily becoming more and more injury prone, it's one thing have to a young player on your books who gets a freakish leg break and takes 2 seasons to regain any fitness or form, it's totally different to actively seek out a player who you know has a documented history of missing lots of games with increasing frequency, and paying at least £70M for the privledge.

I'm more concern about his wages. Around 600k/wk or so? That's just fecking ridiculous. When you see his record of only available for half a season, that number becomes 1,200,000 / wk of play time.

Money is for the accountants- I reckon he'd improve any team in the world. His problem is honestly his appalling fitness record

Well that's exactly why we won't sign him. He's on over 400k a week, he can't stay fit for more than half a season and will cost over 60m approx to transfer. It's just stupid money for a huge liability.

Yes if he could guarantee to stay fit from now on and play to his best then he'll be worth it, but he will only get worse. His body has given up.

indeed- for me money is not really the problem but how his body is. How I wish he could at least play even 3/4 of a season. he could do more in that period like some do over the whole season

So you wouldn't take a punt even if he was available on free?

Gareth Bale wouldn't excite me.
I hope he doesn't ever sign for United

For me, it depends on how much he will cost. He's been an injury prone for the last 3 seasons, and obviously if we are going to spend a lot of money we want a player who can play not player who spends most of his time with physio and doctor. If he's only cost 20m to 30m, go for it. Worth a risk without a doubt he's a world class player when he's fit. 35m will be a push as well but anything above I have my doubt.

We are talking about Man Utd, possibly the richest and biggest club in the world here. What's £20 to £50 million really? Like I said before, for the accountants and balance sheets and shit like that ok, but for the 11 on the pitch a no brainer. I'd have him in a heartbeat

Another thing to consider. I believe in Spain there is a 56% tax for top earners, so while he is rumored to be on astronomical wage; you will not have to pay him as much to get the same wage after tax. I'd still take him here in a heartbeat.

I’d take him too.

He’s 29 if for some miricle we can get him for for 4 years he’d be the best player in the league (probably quite comfortably) just a gamble if he can be fit for 4 years.

For quality, no brainer true. The main issue is if he ends up only playing 10-15 league games per season because of injury, that's not gonna help our season.

true lad, this is the concern of everyone about players like him. Very good players but some reason just cannot leave the treatment room. jack Wilshere is an example- very talented, skilful but always injured

Could be argued injuries derailed our season so this is a risk one should be wary of.

Signing this crock would be the equivalent of driving into the huge pothole you've had the benefit of being warned about several miles earlier.

No he wouldnt

No he wouldnt

If he can stay fit for a prolonged period of time he would.

If he can stay fit for a season at 29 I would bet he’d be more effective and productive than Hazard and KDB - if not the best player he would be on par with the Kane’s and Agueros’s.

I have no faith he could stay fit for a full season though.

You said 4 years there's no way a 33 to Bale whose main asset is pace would be anywhere near the best player in the Premiership .Ronaldo is on another planet to Bale and has adapted his game to prolong his career yet he is showing signs now at 31 he isn't what he is .

Just wanna point out Ronaldo is almost 33 and just this season he is showing signs of slowing down.

Ok nearly 33 point is still valid though .Ronaldo adapted his game, Bale hasn't so if Ronaldo isn't as good now then how poor is Bale going to be at the same age?

Ronaldo at 29 until today has multiple Ballon d’Ors.

He’s a fantastic footballer and one that excites me more than some names being linked. Malcom etc.

If he could stay fit then he would be the ultimate right wide forward surely?

I don’t think he would come here - but if he did I’d be very excited.

Yes but again Bale is not Ronaldo that's the point . He is nowhere near Ronaldo level and he will fade quicker as well .To even think Bale would be the best player in the Premiership and winning the ballon dor the next couple of years is ludicrous

i never said he would win the Ballon d’Or if he came here. Never even emplied that.

Do I think he could have a Salah effect? - Yes. He’s more equipped to rack up Salah numbers or even better than the actual Salah here. Only if he can stay constantly fit.

I believe he can be one of the best players in the league - just like Salah is now. Just think he’s very direct and people would be surprised about how productive he could be here.

We could do worse in this market then try and grab Bale for a few years.

Also we're in a decent way in that we've got Rashford and Lingard as potential RW options who can get time when Bale isn't fit. If we can get 35-40 games a year the upside makes it worth it as long as the fee and maybe wages isn't insane, but who knows what it would cost and also medically, even tougher to speculate.

TLDR: Bale is the best RW we could get apart from actually guessing who's going to emerge and our scouts aren't great.

Let's simplify this, so say if we were to sign those three players and they would stay here until they were 33. Bale would give us 4 seasons and would cost say £60m, so that'd cost us £15m a season. Griezmann would give 6 seasons and would cost £90m, so that's again £15m a season. Dybala will give 9 seasons and would cost around £130m, so that's about £14.5m a season. So all pretty similar if we break it down like that.

However, a big difference is that with Dybala in say 3/4 seasons, he'd be 27/28 and likely peaking, so if we do decide to sell then, we should be able to get a very good fee back (similar to how Madrid bought a 24 year old Bale and may sell him on 5 years later for a similar fee to the then world record fee they paid). You wouldn't be able get the same fee back with Griezmann and most definitely not with Bale.

That was all taking this from a purely financial perspective, but if we were look at play style, then Bale is someone who is heavily reliant on pace (something that is expected to decrease once players approach 30). However, Dybala and Griezmann are both players that are less reliant on pace and more on technical ability. Hence, one should expect both of them to be more likely play at a higher level even once they are in their mid 30's.

 You have in no way simplified that.

feck me, just when you thought this place couldn't turn in to AccountantCafe anymore, we're on to amortising transfer deals.
