Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

But slow doesn't have to mean boring. In Breaking Bad, I watched two guys chase after a fly for most of the episode and it was great. This was just dull as feck, but then I don't particularly care about Dragon lady freeing the 67th city this year or the stupid fat guy story.

Nothing very interesting happened at all, I refuse to believe that was the best way they could advance the story.

I liked both storylines. Obviously not quite as good as last week but that was one of the best episodes. I wasn't bored at all.

And as I have no idea where the story is going I can't comment on the best way to advance the plot.

Look, can we just set this straight as it's ridiculous how people are analysing this to the nth degree. He raped her but it's a TV show and isn't real guys.

According to the director it wasn't meant to be rape. Here's what he says:

What was talked about was that it was not consensual as it began, but Jaime and Cersei, their entire sexual relationship has been based on and interwoven with risk. And Jaime is very much ready to have sex with her because he hasn’t made love to her since he got back, and she’s sort of cajoled into it, and it is consensual. Ultimately, it was meant to be consensual.

The consensual part of it was that she wraps her legs around him, and she’s holding on to the table, clearly not to escape but to get some grounding in what’s going on. And also, the other thing that I think is clear before they hit the ground is she starts to make out with him. The big things to us that were so important, and that hopefully were not missed, is that before he rips her undergarment, she’s way into kissing him back. She’s kissing him aplenty.

The problem is that a) "it started out as rape but wasn't rape by the end" doesn't really work as logic and b) everyone saw it as rape even though that apparently wasn't what the show intended. So, they've managed to accidentally turn one of the characters into a rapist, which is less than brilliant storytelling. That's why people are commenting on it.

There's slightly more to it too but that involves the things we're not allowed to mention in this thread so I won't go there.

Feck the rape scene. We got Joel Fry! Show just got way better.

Because you had to edit the real GRRM quotes, now it doesn't make a lot of sense. It's clear you've tried though. Pretty clear that the director fecked up about how this panned out on serial and the director's 'It started out as a rape, but ended as consensual' clearly didn't come through. It's a rape end of story.

Sorry, these quotes are by the director of the episode! Typo on my part.

It's quite funny how so many people harp on about this being the best show ever yet since season one, people have called far more episodes poor than good.

@Cina

The first two episodes of the season were great. I think that the rapey scene really soured it for me and then there were long scenes with the less interesting characters featured.

All shows like this have poor episodes. I thought the entire last season of The Wire was pretty poor. Mad Men has a good number of flat episodes where Betty Draper really takes a lot of the fun out of it. The Sopranos has many dull episodes too. Breaking Bad was 7/10 for the first season and a half for me.

Sometimes it feels like every other episode is a dull filler episode. Every time something exciting happens we have to wait two weeks for the follow-through and be subjected to a mostly Khaleesi centric episode in the meantime whilst we wait.

Given that he showed how to kill the weird white dudes I think he may have a roll yet. Works well with Jon Snow as well.

Sam's logic on women: he fears his brothers of the watch will make a move on Gilly so he reckons it's better to move her to a whore house. That's fecking ingenious.

I was hoping we'd have seen more of the White-walkers by now. Didn't they head towards the wall at the end of season 2, or am I mistaken?

So, it all got a bit rapey last night then.

Its more than he's worried they'll Jamie Lannister her.

Just caught up on last nights episode - I thought it was pretty average. I'm looking forward to Tyrions trial though.

Me too. The way he was trying to work-out the killer in his cell, I'm expecting him to give a Sherlock Holmes style explanation at trial of what really happened.

Well yeah, that's just it, you've got the third most posts when you're a book reader who by admission can't post anything more than "good episode" or "nice tits".

Bless you.
Half my posts are spent telling other readers to shut the bejaysus up. Also, a lot of them are probably from the early seasons of the show, when the rules were less clear. I don't post much here anymore.

Are people genuinely saying that it wasn't rape?

No matter what is the history between Jaime and Cersei, it was clearly rape.
