Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Not a TV show, but Mass Effect 3's ending retroactively ruined the rest of the series for me.
The reaction to Mass Effect 3’s ending was so ferocious they released a free DLC to fix it. We will never see it’s like again.

Off topic of course, but the ME3 ending for me wasnt that bad. Like, obviously a bit of a disappointment, but honestly for that series it was more about the journey than the destination.

 Really liked season 6. The Bran stuff peaked in that season imo.

I actually think the show peaked after season 4 finale. Didn't mind season 5, thought it was good. Season 6 was okay in places. Season 7 was a mess with horrific jarring time hops etc. 8.. well... let's just say I signed that petition.

It didn't even fix it. They went by the nutters on their forums that were obsessed with "romance" and gave dlc so you could spend more time with your "romance". It didn't fix the story or the mad nonsense at all. Marauder Shields tried to save us all and failed.

A year on from the series finale.

Strangely enough I think the episode started off strong, and then just went flat when they tried to round things off.

Looking back on s8, it defo needed to be longer (still maintain 10 seasons would have been perfect), but I think the first three episodes itself werent that bad and had some really good stuff, esp 1 and 2 I thought in terms of comparing to previous seasons on characters.
3 was a spectacle (and would have been better if it didnt happen right after 2, which seemed like the perfect time to end some of the characters)

But 4 and 5 is where it got really really bad.
And even then I was willing to excuse it if they could land that finale....Having only about 10 mins to spend on Dany after her heel turn was mind boggling.

Arya appearing again, after riding away in the episode before on the JaquenHorse was odd.

I know its all been discussed before, but a year on, (and strangely after seeing Blacklist), I kinda have thoughts on somebody doing a Noir type thing to do s7-10 again... :P

They're great but the exponential plotline growth and lack of an ending, possibly permanently, are downsides.
I'm on to Dance With Dragons right now and I'm struggling to get through it. It's really boring and feels like GRRM threw darts at a board for some of his plot choices.

I wouldn't recommend the books at this point. They're good but there is supposed to be two left and they're never going to be finished plus we already know the ending more or less.

Making Jon Snow a Targaryen was the point when it became far too messy. It was a great plot twist at the time but it effectively ruined the two main characters, Jon and Daenerys, and pretty much the story altogether.

Yes, it becomes a slog I feel. I have no idea how he's going to bring all those different tangents together for any sort of conclusion. Can't help but feel an editor was needed.

It had to go that way but they could've handled it so much better.

Wait, it's been just a year? Maybe the deafening moaning has made it feel a lot longer.

I think the intrigue in the books is going to be a lot more intense if it ever gets written because you have Denaerys, Jon, Young Griff all from the same family having varying degrees of claim to the throne, all working towards claiming it without knowledge of the existence of the others.

Yeah on paper it adds up quite nicely, but because it fell on the worst, most rushed season of all time it ended up being a disaster for the storyline.

I was thinking about how they could have made the ending partially redeemable without extending episodes/redoing the whole thing and, well, there isn't.... but I think Jon should have killed himself after stabbing Dany. The fact that both Drogon and Greyworm don't tear him limb from limb after he murders her is just ridiculous and if they didn't want to kill him that way then a suicide would have been more appropriate.

I'll give Kit the benefit of the doubt and say it was the writing but even the final scene between Dany and Jon was very bland in what should have been THE moment of the series (with the way the story went).

Or he could have killed her at the same time she killed him. I mean its not a whole lot better, but it actually makes sense why Dothraki (those people who appeared from nowhere after being wiped out) and Unsullied (who, it was suggested should start their own house, hahahaha) took no action. Everything up until that point showed they did everything for their queen and didnt follow 'law / trial / judgment'

The build to this point was excellent. I really liked the s6 stuff with Bran going back in time to see his father and the secret. Even Bran and Sam figuring it all out together (in s7). But after that, cos of the lack of time, it meant absolutely nothing. All it served was the reason to make Dany paranoid, Varys into an idiot, Jon into saying one of two lines and yeah... basically everybody became stupid from knowing this.

You are right about the fact that Martin maybe will not finish last two books but we don't know the true ending. This ending from show is D&D's rubbish ending. I bet that Martin's ending will not be near like that.

I think Jon not becoming King is how it'll ultimately end, and the show fecked it up. Jon has always been responsible for his own destiny. He was brought up a bastard, he had no claim to anything and he made his own path despite what others wanted him to do. Whilst everyone wants him to be King - show watchers and book readers as well - it's not what HE wants. After losing Dany, and the decimation of King's Landing, he sees what power ultimately entails and he wants nothing to do with it. He's seen how anger and greed corrupts man and he just yearns to be back in that cave with Ygritte and have a simple life.

It's like GRRM explained this to D&D ("he doesn't want it") and the best they could do with that info was make Jon say "I dUn WaNtiT"

I don't think he'll become King either, but I think it might end with Dany killing him. He has to come back from the dead and the thing with the books is you come back different, you lose something of yourself. Stoneheart and Dondarion have been highlighting that. So it might be a different Jon by the end.

He'll come back as Ghost, poop on Dany's favourite blue dress (the one where you have one boob popping out) and she'll feed him chocolate. Then Drogon will eat Cersei and Tyrion will tell Varys that he has no cock.

I would be more interested in the White Walkers story - I still can't believe how easily and quickly that was dealt with.

And everyone will conclude that Sansa is dead smart.

Varys has no cock. It never gets old.

Am I imagining it or did Theon win a fight because he had no cock and therefore was immune to being punched in the crotch? I feel like I have to have imagined that, but I suspect I haven't.

Never watched it, full of cock and dragons so I hear. Is that a correct observation?

If so I will continue my boycott of the show.

No you're right, that really did happen. With Theon. I bet D&D felt really smart when they wrote that one.

"The guy. Without a cock. Gets kicked in the cock. *sssnnnnNNNOOORRTTTT* And then. It doesn't hurt his cock. Because he hasn't got one. It's like he's been preparing his entire life for this moment."

"Yeah. Or it's ironic. You know? His weakness is like a strength now or something."

"Like rain on your wedding day?"

"......We got any more of those horse tranquilizers left?"

"No....yes!"

"IoI subverting my expectations there"

Given the amount of foreshadowing in the books and also reports that GRRM gave D&D broad strokes of how it will end for the major characters i.e. Dany and Jon, I expect the books to have same or very similar endings for Dany and Jon. Now, in the books GRRM will have a lot of time to flesh out those endings (he has two books remaining but I fully expect both of them to have two volumes each given the amount of plot he has to fit in there) and also there are other characters with much bigger and different influences in the books like Young Griff (how he'll win King's Landing and later be defeated by Dany), Euron (whatever the hell he is doing trying to steal a dragon and to be a god himself), the Night King (no such thing in the book, so no single person to kill to end the Others so some magical end to that) etc etc. So even if the endings are the same in the books, it will be a lot more satisfying.

They were apparently huge fans of Hans Moleman’s ‘Man Getting Hit By Football’ winning the film festival in The Simpsons.

Pfft, 10 years on and still talking about books in the tv thread. For shame

So bad, that I didn't ever bother to replay them.

The books aren't overly brilliant anyway.

They start well enough but, very much like the show, you can feel the lack of an end goal for the characters and the overall boredom of the creator by the last one.

I am sad reading this. Dunno how to have my vengeance, maybe to say that Deus Ex sucks (but then I love that game).

Just turned onto an ep of game of thrones there, the part where daenerys saves the guys in the frozen bit, Jon snow does absolutely feck all fighting till they're supposed to get on the dragon then decided to start slashing walkers one by one getting further away from the dragon for absolutely no feckin reason. He really was a joke character.

It was basically his fault that one of Dany's dragons got sniped for being such a dumbass. They basically turned him into the guy with a heart of gold but no brains.
