Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

The greatest battle is the one against the dead, so I'm assuming the magic, dragons and zombies made the writers think "right we have enough to make this tense enough, let's save more deaths for the more boring battle later so we can balance the excitement"

Not saying its logical or correct as a way forward, but its probably how the show is written from a producer's hat.

In their showdown Ramsey told him that people say Jon is the greatest swordsman in the world.

I couldn't find the right word and chose competent because I didn't want to undersell him or oversell him. I suppose great would be more fair.
As for battles, despite his experience he does feck up as a leader constantly. Great fighter, fantastic inspiration to those around him due to his nature but a bad leader.
Doesn't change the fact that Arya has been in hours of hours of a training-arc with being made into a barely-human "magic-assassin".

Styr was also using a Axe that took significantly more power to swing around and managed to get Jons sword away.
If not for a lucky hammer-placement (good awareness by Snow, credit where it's due), I'm certain in a non-plot situation he'd die there.

Oh yeah trust me, look back through my posts and you'll see what I think of Jon's ability as a leader .

He did, but this was also Jon many seasons ago and he's clearly come on leaps and bounds since. And a good fighter is all about using your environment to your advantage and he did that and got the win.

But we'll see what happens for the rest of the season, would be nice if Jon went 1vs1 with a top tier fighter but all the top tier fighters aside from the mountain (maybe Bronn?) are on the 'good' side.

And the Mountain has to fight the Hound  (please tv show writers give us a little bit of predictability with this).

If I was facing a trial by combat and had to pick one of the remaining characters, Jon (barring having plot protection) would be nowhere near top of the list.

Grey Worm, Arya, Zombie Mountain, Brienne, Hound, Tormund & Bronn would all be ahead of him.

Who has Jon beaten in a 1 v 1? A White Walker who didn't know about Valerian Steel, Ramsay who thought a Bow and Arrow at a distance of 1 meter was a good idea and a Thenn. Bloody Halfhand had to let him win and Karl Tanner was chatting mad shit whilst easily beating him.

Jon is a survivor, not a great fighter.

I'm still thinking it's possible the "boring battle" will actually ended up being the more epic one. Perhaps not from a visual perspective but certainly as a display of medieval warfare type brutality. I don't understand why people think everything after this is going to be downhill in some way. The battle of the bastards in a way was far more intriguing than the siege of Winterfell which honestly wasn't much of a siege at all... It was a massacre with extremely poor tactics on display.

I think Bronn is a tier 2 fighter (amongst the current lot) that is just incredibly smart. If that makes sense?
I think he'd do worse than Jon in a battle between armies, but he might better him in a 1v1 duel. Obviously if it comes to the show, I have no faith in Bronn due to the importance lore-wise that Jon has.

I want the Mountain to kill the Hound, and Arya to revenge-kill the Mountain.

Jon is a survivor, not a great fighter.

That thenn was their leader, who was absolutely fecking massive and portrayed as one of the best and most savage Wildling fighters. They make it clear how big a feat this is when Sam notes it as among his biggest achievements when Jon gets elected as Lord Commander. He's also got the best battle feats out of everyone. He hasn't had that many 1vs1 opportunities in his 'prime' but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be capable.

Halfhand/Karl Tanner was S1&2, when Jon was still a boy. The Tanner fight in particular was one where he was up against an alien sort of opponent and the fight against the Thenn showed that Jon learned from this experience, he's a far better warrior since then.

He's both a survivor and clearly a great fighter, that's clearly the way he's being portrayed. You don't have to think he's the best but he's absolutely a great swordsman.

The Mountain is a bit of an enigma, because if he can't feel pain (he's a zombie so makes sense right?) and he's in full plate armour, how the feck do you kill a guy of that size 1 on 1.

Is he like a wight where he has to be burned or killed with valyrian steel/dragonglass? Or is he more a traditional zombie where you gotta go for the head?

I think Aryas comment to the Hound is the key.
She'll use valyrian steel to the eye (he still has to see, after all). :D
But yeah, you need to be incredibly fast to fight the mountain. That or you kill him without fighting him (as in dragon breathing fire).
Would be cool if the "giant woman" bested the mountain.

Giant kills Hound.
Giant kills Brienne.
Podrick kills Giant.

Bit fairy tale but would be quite funny

That would be hugely disappointing.

Jon Snow vs The Mountain would be hilarious with the height difference .

I do wonder how Brienne would get on against the Mountain. She comes across as quite brutish in her fighting style and reliant on overpowering opponents, but that straight up surely wouldn't work against the Mountain who is far bigger and stronger than she is. She managed to do it against Sandor but Gregor is a different story.

Maybe the Mountain will get double teamed by Brienne and the Hound.

I agree it would be disappointing, but at the same time I'd enjoy the look of dread on him before the flames hit him. So it would to me be like the s8e3 ep where people aren't really happy with things, but I enjoy it anyways because it's just fun. I think people who are very into the lore and big stories will have to hope for the books to come out and be completed.

Agree that Brienne would struggle and lose 8-9/10 times from the stuff I've seen. I'd just enjoy seeing it. :D

I doubt you'd get that pleasure, he's a cold ass motherfeckah' since he got zombie'd.

Although if anything will get you panicking, it's a dragon breathing fire at you.

The little girl with greyscale will climb in his ear and eat his undead brain.

Imagine brienne and the mountain and the hound fighting and they are all tangled up and sweaty and a hand accidentally touches a crotch and instead of pulling it away they make eye contact and pause for a second and then they are all tangled up again but instead of fighting they are making love

Not sure if serious... It d be quite the twist for sure.

I doubt many of the things I hope for, and even if I get a few of them then they are opposed to each other (like I want different people to kill the mountain), so I'm just going along for the ride, enjoying what I get. :)

That’d be an easy tug I reckon

And right at climax the mountain says "what the fecks a lommy" its revealed that not only can he talk but hes also a warg and he was remote desktoping into arya.

Does this mean gendry actually porked the mountain?

Nah, im neither of those. I gave up reading the books half way through book 2 and I laugh at the Star Wars hipsters. I love this show, stay up 2am to watch it and I didn't like the episode. Perhaps, just maybe, it's a volatile episode, some love it and some dislike it. Such is life.

I gave up after the first one. I can appreciate the amount of effort that's gone into writing, but they're an awfully painful read.

What's wrong with you people? Bronne would totally have Jon Snow in a fight.

The Mountain would have everyone because he's a giant zombie that doesn't feel pain.

Roy Keane has slammed the performance of the Night King after his demise during the epic Battle of Winterfell on Monday night. The Army of the Dead had been cruising towards victory before Arya Stark pulled off a dramatic late ‘smash and grab’.

“He bottled it,” Keane told Soccer on Sunday. “The boy Arya is 4 foot 6. Just chop her head off instead of all this fannying about. People talk about tactics, formations — just chop her head off and volley it back over the castle wall, and maybe beat Bran to death with her torso. You have to be ruthless at this level.”

“Soft,” said the former UTD captain. “Mentally, not strong enough. In my day you had your Freddy Kruegers, your Michael Myerses, your Leatherfaces — big personalities. Today it’s all about blue contact lenses and spikey horns. Slaughtering innocent people should be your bread and butter — not joyriding dragons.”

“Maybe the job was too big for the lad,” added the Irishman. “Listen, the Night King had the talent — no question. Some of his work early doors north of the wall was different class. But we’ve seen this before. The boy Sauron thought he could coast as a giant eye. If these lads are leaders, then I’m a ching-chong Chinaman. “

Oberyn would have kicked every ass in Westeros if he wasn't such a dimwit.

People give Oberyn a bit of a hard time.

The Mountain raped and killed his sister and then murdered her children. He didn't just want justice for the mad dog who did the killing, he wanted a confession from Gregor during the fight.

He had a momentary slip in a heated moment against someone who will punish any error you make. Bit silly to risk it perhaps, but again I can't really blame him for being swept away by emotion considering what the Mountain did.

But also Jaime with two hands> all.

NK shoulda yeeted Arya soon as he caught her.

Is Jon Snow the dumbest GoT character ever?

"Let me sneak up on the night king, he definitely won't notice and totally won't bring back the corpses around him because I've never ever seen him do that before"
Yeah that was dumb as feck. Even when the Night King started raising the dead and be had zero chance of reaching him before he died, Jon kept charging like a maniac.

Don’t listen to @amolbhatia50k here folk. He’s just after death and destruction :D.

No romance left in him whatsoever I tell ya!
 I'm just very knit picky about something which I feel used to be better!

The last line may be true as well though
