Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

personally I thought they foreshadowed a lot of characters dying that didn't die. I'm not saying that's a bad thing It just meant that I was fearful for far more characters than actually died. I thought it added to the spectacle.
yes thought Brienne was a goner - Grey Worm too

Same for me. The zombie thing was dull as dishwater to me. Zero interest in the motivations of the Night King, their whole schtick is being devoid of spirit and humanity so I’m not sure what motivations their supposed to have beyond wanting to destroy humankind anyway.

I enjoyed the episode, thought it was epic but boy did I know that the CAF was going to go bitchtits over it.

Looking forward to The Game of Thrones resuming. Cerci is a much better villain than the vapid and expressionless NK anyway.

Guarantee that Arya will play a vital role in the final 3 episodes, she's become absurdly over powered now.

Was really hoping she'd be the one to kill Cersei (wearing Tyrion or Jaime's face) but I'd say that looks unlikely now she's killed the NK.

The dothraki bit was one of the dumbest things I've ever seen

Yeah. You have a horde of unarmored light cavalry. You dont just send them in a massive headlong charge into the unknown enemy. Especially when that enemy can then just resurrect them all.

Also, whatever happened to the idea of defending the walls? Why the feck are the Unsullied all sitting outside the castle? How about defending the chokepoints and walls?

Also, why the feck were the catapults/artillery in front of the bloody soldiers?!

These are just absolute basics of any sort of battle strategy. Battle of the Somme stuff right there.

I get you but I felt since the show writers have basically parted ways with the book's material in many instances, maybe their biggest focus would have been on the ending of this particular war. I'm glad it's over now, the last 3 episode will be a chore now.

Maybe they flipped it around because the tv show is named Game of Thrones, so they are ending with the throne battle. Since there's no ice side anymore I guess.

Exactly. I also think the visuals regarding the death/defeat of the NK were terribly done, I mean he was the leader of the army, he should have been given a bigger death, with better effects. It felt too ordinary, Theon's death was better

Poor Theon. I would like to say he went out a hero. But he didn't really, did he.

Also have to say, seen some people saying (prior to this episode) Maisie Williams is a bit overrated now but I honestly thought she was great in that episode.

Jon Snows "Every man counts" speeches seem a little daft now after that expert should of military command.

It was a hell of an episode, some people will always find something to bitch about.
I can't recall the last time I was so tense watching a tv show
Yeah i dont get how people can bitch and moan about that episode ffs. Dont know if i have the energy to sift through 20 pages of complaints.

Jon Snow truly knows feck all, coming off that episode. Useless plank flying about with Dany while everyone else eats zombie.

So is this
the end of all the walkers and that story line? Just like that?
thats a bit of an anticlimax.

Also the Dothraki:lol:

Maybe, maybe not.

Bran is still knocking about and he's pretty pointless without the WW storyline. It wouldn't surprise me if the WW's turn out to be some sort of neccesaary cyclical thing (for what ever reason) and by the end of the show we see another NK emerge who will eventually threaten the world in another however many hundred years. Or, maybe that's total shite. Dunno.

Come to think of it, that was so stupid

That and the fact that 40k cavalry somehow managed to die in about 20 seconds. That many cavalry charging head on vs an enemy without pikes would smash straight through for a good while and once bogged down it would take the zombies a while to push through to them. It made no sense how all of them were just instantaneous goners, it was all done to create a sense of dread but was pure silliness. If they were capable of slaughtering 40 thousand cavalry with riders who have flaming swords, the whole battle should have ended in about 2 minutes.

And yeah the entire battle was a tactical mess, but it's GoT and that's pretty standard, the battle of the bastards was a mess in that respect too. Throwing the dothraki in to battle well ahead of everybody else (with no dragon support) was definitely special though.

Tactics non existent.

Not gonna lie, I fecking loved it when she first started kicking arse with that pointy stick. One of my favourite parts of the episode.

It's my theory that Daenerys forgot to teach him the word dracarys so he spent the entire episode trying to figure out how to make his dragon breathe fire.

Didn't he just sit on the wall of Winterfell with his dragon while they struggled to light the trench?

Yeah. Can't speak for everyone but for me, it was a great pay-off on her journey.

At least with Battle of the Bastards you can understand why it was a mess. They had a strategy in place to defend but it all went to shit when Ramsey revealed Rickon. With this episode however the strategy was just plain shite.

Especially after fat Sam was able to hold about 50 of them off lying on his arse.

Is Gilly still alive? Hope not. I was sure she died and even allowed myself a Tiger Tim first pump in celebration when she seemed to die.

That said, you really have to suspend your disbelief with GoT and remember ‘tits + dragons’.

Fat Sam shouldn't be alive  I mean they have only killed off minor characters so far and it's really disappointing. A big name should have died on this episode (Jorah is for some but meh)
Jorah, Theon and Mel have been in the show since the first season. They were at worst tier two characters. Ed was a fan favourite who was also in the show from season one. Lyanna Mormont became a fan favourite the moment she opened her mouth but is a lower tier character.

They're definitely tier 2, not at worst. Didn't the WW have more than 1 giant ? Judging from how season 7 ended I mean.

Gilly and Mini Sam are alive. No named characters died outside of the 6 - Theon, Mel, Jorah, Eyepatch Fella, Lady Mormont, Captain of Nightswatch Ed.

Dick move on Bran's part thanking him beforehand. Basically saying "you're fecked".

Yeah Bran is a bit of a dick, isn't he? "Thanks for standing here all night with me, now go along and run headlong into that supernatural being over there."
