Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

In the middle there's an interesting bit where you get a millisecond of a close up of the Hound's face (the burnt side) and a big fire behind him. Hmmmm

Yup, I saw that too and wondered what the feck it must be. Given it looks like the White Walkers attack at night, perhaps Winterfell burning? Dunno. :nervous:

I read the other day that one of the battle sequences is rumoured to be the longest battle scene there has ever been on anything, movies included.

I had read some spoiler stuff about this a few months back and going off of that trailer it looks pretty bang on depending on timeline but that looks like it would be footage from the first 2 episodes.

This isn’t a spoiler just a timeline for the first battle
The battle starts at the beginning of episode 2

Only thing it really gives away is:

Baelish will get found out this season and meet a grisly end. I'm going to guess at a timeline.

First couple of episodes: As we've seen in the trailer, Jon and Baelish have a conversation in the crypt - probably about Jon's heritage or that he's not a "proper king" - remember that it was Baelish who told Sansa the story about Rhaegar and Lyanna in season 5. The conversation leads to Jon becoming a bit wound up and pushing Baelish up against the wall, mirroring Ned's first meeting with him in season one outside the King's Landing brothel. Littlefinger will use this chat as an opportunity to get the measure of Jon, to see how easily he can be wound up, and will begin to plant the idea in Sansa's head that she's a more worthy ruler because her temper is cooler and she's a better strategist - "Jon can't be trusted, that's why you didn't tell him about the Knights of the Vale" he'll say to her. Sansa will begin to doubt Jon, and if she's got even the slightest inkling that he's a Targaryen there could be more trouble in the works.

Mid-season: Jon has left Winterfell to go north beyond the Wall, leaving Sansa in charge. Baelish takes this opportunity to show Sansa she can manage the politics of the North by herself, that she could easily step in and do the job if Jon were to die beyond the Wall. Arya and Bran have both arrived back at Winterfell, but the reunion doesn't last long as Baelish immediately sets about causing a rift between the Stark children, playing on the fact that Arya and Sansa never got on in the first place. Cracks begin to appear in the relationship between the Stark children.

Final two/three episodes: Something happens to make Sansa reconsider things. Maybe Brienne says a few wise words. This, I imagine, is where the "The lone wolf dies but the pack survives" speech will come into it, that Sansa, Jon, Arya and Bran need to stick together when the full force of winter arrives. Maybe the show will make it really convenient and wrap it up easily, with Bran looking into the past and seeing that Baelish betrayed Ned, murdered Jon Arryn and that his feelings for Sansa are a mixture of necrophiliac lust for Catelyn and his own desire to take the Iron Throne. He's betrayed a Stark to get what he wants before, and he'll betray a Stark to get what he wants again. With everything out in the wash, Sansa sentences Baelish to death and Arya carries out the deed with his own dagger. Everyone goes home happy.

Who was/is the golden haired chap on the Grayjoy ships? New character from the mercenaries Cersei is hiring?

I was wondering the same. It's on Greyjoys ships but he definitely looks like a Lannister from behind. Could be someone from the Golden Company?

Read a couple of theories that the long shot of the ships and the close up with the golden haired chap are not actually the same boats. The long shot being of a force that Theon has cobbled together.
Almost certainly the golden haired guy is the leader of the Golden Company.

So I don’t know if this is true but Mega spoiler

The golden company when informed of Johns true heritage by Varis who sneaks back in to kings landing leave kings landing in the night stealing Urons ships to go and meet what is left of Johns Army and a 3rd party. So could be footage from after they have stolen the ships

Not sure about that, hope they don't do that because it would be too convenient for Jon and Dany.

Besides, the Golden Company pride themselves on never breaking a contract and I don't think they'd care too much about what happens in Westeros in terms of leadership

I just hope the White Walkers are in most of it and aren't given some bullshit ending. They've been made to look invincible so far, so they shouldn't just be beaten in 1 episode/battle.

Maybe I'm biased as I want them to "win" but know it won't happen, so want them to last at least till the end of the season to keep it even more interesting from my perspective

WWs will surely be defeated by Jon beating the Night King when it looks like there is no hope, and they will all just crumble to ice.

I was thinking somebody plays loud music like Mars attacks and the WW heads explode..

it’s something to do with them being mostly comprised of the bastard children of Targaryans and a loyalty to Raegar, so when they learn that there is a true Targaryan king nothing else matters. The supposed ending of the battle with the whites if any of the stuff I read is true then it sounds a bit cheesy.

The trailer sort of led me to believe a lot of what I read certainly looked like it was happening in that trailer

I feel the exact opposite in that I find that the white walkers are the most boring of the sides left. I mean, they are basically just emotionless zombies. The battle between the good guys and the Lannisters is far more interesting for me. Hopefully the dragon will est all of the ww’s in episode 1 so the rest of the show can focus on what really matters, Danaerys’ tits and the battle between people.

Interesting, good point actually. That would actually be fun to see.

All this trailer does is make me realise that a lot of characters I love are going to die and that makes me sad :(

Last season was very rushed and perhaps one of the least interesting season of GOT. Hope they can up their game this season. With so much happening I doubt GOT can hit its past glory.

I’m looking forward to how Arya is going to do in a battle situation. Is she going to be killing whites by the thousands or is she going to get a bit of a reality check and how are people like Jamie, Jora and Jon going to react to her fighting abilities. I can imagine the hound shedding a tear of pride to see her killing multiple foes.

I’m hoping for pay offs on moments from the first season like when Jamie is taking the piss out of Jon about him joining the nights watch, Sansa and Tyrian, Sansa and the Hound, Just feel like the previous season was going at such a pace they neglected a lot of the intresting moments and meetings Like the other seasons had, they just focused on the speeding it along and missed out things like Gendry not mentioning he travelled with Arya, how does that not come up.

Seriously mate
If they kill off Arya or Tyrion that'd be really sad :(

Agreed! Unlike any other show, the "heroes" are never safe! I think the ending will be bittersweet, but would be gutted if any of Arya / Tyrion / Jon Snow died.

I saw an interesting theory on Youtube that Baelish faked his own death, and that one of the faceless men was wearing his face before being executed. But would that only be possible had in fact he already died? Needless to say the internet is rife with theories / speculation...

Arya is going to kill a white walker, take his face and kill the night king. You heard it here first.
