Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Anyone know where I can find Seasons 1-6? I saw somewhere that nowTV had it but they only have the newest episodes. I'm trying to get my wife to watch an episode (the only bit she's ever seen was the Red Wedding completely out of context).

I thought that at first, then I thought that actually 2 people on the horse will slow t down and they won't escape. So I'm going wth that theory

That's the only probably explanation along with the fact that Benjen would have managed to give Jon a bit more time as he tried to hold off the wights.

I think the whole episode was indicative of just how heavy handed many elements of the show have now become. Its not suddenly a bad show by any means, but its just very clumsy. Jaime being rocket propelled into the sea by Bronn 'rescuing' him from the dragon, the needless explanation given by Coldhands rather than just charging off into the wights (and then taking out like 2 of them before being overwhelmed, buying Jon roughly 4 seconds longer, 2 of which he wasted saying there wasnt time) the night king only taking out one dragon with his laser guided heat seeking javelin, rather than literally any enemy that opposes him. And so on

I've mostly enjoyed this season a lot, but episode 6 was a little weak. Jon's plunge into the lake was completely pointless unless they were just looking for a way to get rid of his uncle. In which case they found a bad way - this can't be the end of that story, surely? Otherwise Jon could have just been injured in the rescue attempt with the same result for his relationship with Daenerys.

And the problem with time and Daenerys's journey to the north could easily have been resolved by having the Night King in distant place and the wight army waiting for his arrival to attack because he wanted to see Jon's defeat in person. There didn't need to be any map-shrinking sprint up the land.

I wish they gave the show a season 9, things could have picked up pace a little, but not felt rushed which they're clearly having to do now.

Still though I love the show and will be sad when it ends. Yes it's not perfect and there's some silly things recently but I can't wait to see how it unfolds.

I agree. I loved the show and I think I actually prefer it a little faster paced but they have swung too far the other way, no doubt about it.

Also Benjen being half dead anyway means he wouldn't be able to cross the wall anyway. So he probably didn't care about surviving when he's already dead.

Yeah, it's the rapid swing that I think has upset/confused a lot of people. They spend the first 6 series leisurely taking their time and suddenly they've got 16 episodes to wrap everything up, somehow they've got to wrap up the whole iron throne + WW story in what 9 episodes? I can't see how it'll be satisfactory.

Snow and the others had to go because this was their last shot to the convince everyone down South that WW exist. If they breach the wall and the Southern armies arent there to fight with the North, its over. The Seven Kingdoms will fall. So as their last ditch effort, Snow had to go cause he knows what to do rather than send some wildling bunch out there. You dont trust subordinates to carry out a mission of this importance. Risks have to be taken. Its like asking why does a King fight in a battle. What happens if he dies? He has to take that risk to galvanize his other soldiers.
The thing is no matter who went they all should have died. It wouldn't matter that the lake wasn't frozen when you have the Night King who is better than Steve Backley with a javelin.

Going to need to set my alarm a little earlier on Monday morning in order to watch all of this before work...

So what the hell is The Dragonpit about? A bit needlessly confusing.

This video is a trailer breakdown and an insight by someone who has read the books. I think it's spoiler free as he just gives his opinion as to what he thinks will be wrapped up (e.g how they need to wrap up the sansa Arya angle as its getting long).

He explains what the dragon pit is and how it came to form just to add colour, it was from the books and the episode won't probably go into much detail on it.

If you're sensitive to fan made videos of trailer reviews etc then don't watch it :

After Drogo, Jon will need to tie a fecking board to his feet go stop him falling in
Im still chuckling about this comment from yesterday evening.

Ill watch it now. But from what you are saying, it is a reference to something in the book that they wont really go into much in the episode. But they still thought it worth putting it on the poster, instead of the name of the episode?

That clears that up then.

I'm not sure that's an official poster. Probably fan made.

Yeah, sorry, the focus was really just on the length of the episode, think that the image is fan made.

They might reference it in a sentence. It appeases everyone who read the books I suppose.

I do like the trailer breakdown in any case, and agree with this fans views on where writing could have been better in the season thus far.

Please refrain from posting stuff like this or at least use a spoiler. Seriously man. Like 90% of us in this thread havent read the BOOKS, this looks like there a reference to the books and now we are all wondering what the feck the "DragonPit" is.

Seriously, who sets a fire in open tundra when they're surrounded by rocks? That just seems stupid, I'm amazed any of Jon Snow's expedition survived. Is GRRM still involved in the writing of this show?

Also I'm with the people who feel that this show is now being rushed too much. All these little 10 second cliffhangers they have, whereas previously it would have been an end of episode cliffhanger. Not to mention all the travelling everyone is doing these.

I didnt recognise it as a reference to the books, its not a term id heard before but seems like, from watching that video posted, that its just the name of some place in Kings Landing where an old building got burned down in some random flavour text not mentioned in the books.

Have added a spoiler tag to it now so hopefully people wont be confused.

If there was a scale for the speed with which these episodes progress, and it was previously on a 3, now it has been dialed up to 9, I think they have only fractionally overshot it. Like a 7 or 8 might be perfect.

Speculation on Jon, Dany and Ghost:

I really hope Ghost doesnt die. But IF IF IF he does, I hope they show him sacrificing himself to save Dany. Sort of like Dany losing her dragon to save Jon

A horse can carry around 150kg. They are not donkeys.

So, 2 guys with weapons, armor and big jackets, also soaking wet... They were easily over 200kg.

The horse would have slowed down way too much in snow to make a escape.

But but wont you say Meera Reed + Bran weighed as much as Jon Snow?:D

The show used to be awesome in the sense of having a great story while ensuring no plotholes and building characters, but now its' awesome in the sense of having a great story but requiring suspension of logic and lesser character development. Ravens whizzing to Dany at the speed of light, Jon falling for Dany and vice-versa after literally days of knowing her, a sulky Arya at Winterfell who doesn't exactly know what she's supposed to be doing and all that.

Its' like going from cerebral to popcorn entertainment in a flash. Decision to reduce number of episodes is the problem. Still awesome though.

All characters are developed. What more character development do you need? Also just because it happened scene after scene doesnt mean the raven reached Dany in a minute. You can see the day changes during that expedition and looks like the next day was when Dany came for them. And finally Jon doesnt fall for her within "days". Sansa tells Littlefinger that Jon she hasnt heard from Jon in weeks. So clearly a longer period of time.

For one thing, if it had been like the previous seasons, lot of time would have been spent over Dany pondering whether she's a cruel ruler who sics her dragons on her enemies or a kind one who is influenced by Tyrion and Jon.

What I said was not a criticism of the show. Merely noted that its' entertaining for different reasons now. If you compare it with say, Breaking Bad, for instance, the latter reached a level of predictability only post-Ozymandias when 2 episodes were left.
