Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

The bigger question is why he chose to throw his javelin at the airborne dragon instead of the one that was grounded with a number of important people on it. Maybe he just wanted to show off some of his fancy skills.

Dya think hes completing his own prophecy? He seemed like he was prepared and waiting for the dragons. At Hardhome it didnt look like he had those large icepick weapons.
Here he was prepared and waiting.
Maybe he saw himself doing this and went for the one that was in his vision?

The same question could have been asked of Ramsey as to why he chose to shoot his arrow at the Wun Wun instead of Jon Snow standing next to him.

Ramsay's a fundamentally good guy - bloodthirsty murderer, but knew the narrative would be disrupted if Jon died again and that Kit Harrington was definitely going to be in Season 7.

Just read the first page of the leaked thread. feck some of those guys should just quit the show if they don't enjoy it.

The shows always been a bit silly and now the fantasy elements are coming to the forefront people moan about plot armour/over powered or time travel. It's always been like this, just less obvious because before it was ordinary people riding in the nick of time while now it's dragons.

I definitely think he was hoping to lure the dragons to the north in order to kill one, but he tried to throw a javelin at Drogon as he threw away which implies he was hoping to kill him.

Actually think that a reasonable explanation for this is that Viserion was flying directly towards him and was thus a threat, whereas Drogon was landed and thus wasn't. Still probably a bit shortsighted haha.

So dragon fire destroys the wights but not the Night King right?

Unclear tbh-the White Walkers have been shown to be able to ignore run of the mill fire-on the floor surrounding the cave of the 3 eyed raven, and on the ground again here. It hasn't been shown yet whether direct dragonfire would kill a White Walker. I would suspect that it would personally given that there are indications in the books that Valyrian steel can only be made via dragonfire (hence its alternative name dragonsteel), but this remains to be seen.

Good point lol. I like magicfoolbus' explanation lol.
Bigger threat.

But they walked right past the fire the dragons were breathing this time too didnt they? Well not exactly breathing but the fire they breathed was torching the ground yet it still didnt seem to affect the Night King.

Its also pretty cool they found that if you kill the "King" that turned the wights, then all those wights die as well. They didnt show that during the battle at Hardhome did they when Jon killed one of them "Kings"?

Given how little shits they gave my feeling is it wouldn't kill them.

Seemed to me that the fire had struck the ground and ignited something there which the walkers then walked through. They did this before at the cave of the 3ER, and my guess would be if directly blasted by a dragon that they wouldn't survive. Again, this is speculation, but partially based on what we know about the properties of Valyrian steel.

My impression was that the dragons were focused on blasting the wights that were in the immediate area of the group instead of attacking the walkers, since Dany has no idea that killing the walkers kills the wights the dragons aren't being efficient.

Nope. Doesn't mean it didn't happen just that it wasn't on screen. Also the white walker Jon faced at hardhome was alone. So was just a simple 1 on 1.

Ah see your point. Damn thats going to be one hell of a battle next season. Dany, Jon and the two dragons against the Night King and his dragon.

Damn have to wait 45 mins for HBO to replay that episode. I need to watch it again. Was too excited and hyped during the entire 70 mins.

Should be quite the spectacle! Like I said, I could very well be proven wrong, but I'd find it very odd if dragonglass and dragonsteel kill White Walkers all but instantaneously yet actual dragons can't.

Would be lovely to see if Dany rides Drogon and Jon rides Rhaegar to battle.

Am glad I waited for this and didn't watch the leaked episode. As much as I've been complaining about fast travel this season, gotta say it made sense in this episode with Dany's dragon flight express. Lotta previous guesses turned out true (Benjen coming back to save the day, dragon joining the ice walker army). Overall, very enjoyable.

Just had a thought. Why didn't the Night King just spear Jon while he was waiting there that whole time.

Anyway loved the ep, very sad when Viserion died and did not expect them to resurrect him. Game on!

As someone mentioned in the thread for this episode when it leaked, it's proving to be one of the most divisive of the series so far based on how much you're willing to scrutinise the plan.

And also Hardhome

I still think fire could destroy the WW if they are exposed like say the Lannister army or the wights were

Yeah as I said earlier it'd be frankly mind boggling to me if DRAGONglass and DRAGONsteel killed White Walkers but actual dragons couldn't. I rewatched the scene and it's plain that the WWs are dispersing flames that are burning on the ground, i.e. not coming directly from a dragon's mouth. I'd be shocked if direct dragonfire didn't kill WWs.

The Night King turned him by touch just like he did Craster babies so maybe the dragon will not be just a stupid wight but more like a proper white (walker) dragon

so as well as killing them it could turn them when it breathes ice fire on them
