So the children of the forest created the white walkers to defend themselves against the first men only for them to form an alliance with the first men against the white walkers ?

Yup, created a monster they couldn't control. At least thats how it is in the show.

in a way, the dramatic irony surrounding that dagger is fascinating. Most of us pretty much know what will happen with that dagger, but littlefinger has no clue.

I actually think when he saw Arya with it whilst fighting Brienne, he a look of a man who was like "oh shit".

Flee you idiot. You idiot, you fecking idiot.

THAT WAS AWESOME.

So just finished rewatch of s4. That has to be the best season from start to end right?

Does anybody disagree? How do people rate the seasons so far (not counting current as it hasnt finished).
Assuming everybody would put 5 as last.

So true!

1 = 3 > 2 = 4 >>>6>>>>5

1 is still overall the best, 4 is probably the best for spectacular individual episodes (purple wedding, mountain and viper, watchers on the wall), 5 has the best episode in the worst season (Hardhome), 6 was pretty meh apart from 2 amazing final episodes. 2 and 3 were largely solid.

7 is knocking it out of the park so far though and the last episode is possibly on par with Hardhome.

I'd go 1 > 4 > 3 = 2 > 6 > 5

Beating S1 would take some doing. Though I'm known for being sentimental about world-building and exposition, seeing as how I still prefer Mass Effect 1.

Despite this, the whole war isn't really done in a satisfying way for me with all the lacking context. I understand that the pace has picked up so I don't even want to complain about the famous time traveling but it seems like fecking no one is using any sort of scouts. All those 'surprise attacks' make great cinema but it feels like they basically flip a coin when it comes to who's supposed to win the battle and make up the circumstances after. This side gets surprised, than that side gets surprised, rinse, repeat. Bit of a wasted potential in my opinion.

Generally speaking I agree with you. They are giving us a lot of battles that aren't really battles that way. However in this case I'd say it's somewhat understandable. The Lannister Army is marching home from a victory, they are streched and disorganized (as Tarly mentions during the episode) while Dany's army is probably very mobile, given that everyone is mounted and she's flying a Dragon.

I agree if we're talking about a surprise manoeuvre of a few hours but not essential movements of armies.
They're mobile but they're huge, have a dragon and most importantly had to be brought somewhere with a fleet. I assumed they landed somewhere in between KL and storm's end, I don't buy the fact that apparently no-one saw that and/or their movement across the country.
Back in season 1, Robb knew exactly where Jaime's and Tywins armies were while both of them knew exactly that he was marching south - until the twins obviously but even there he had to sacrifice 2000 of his men as a fake army to make it look like he was attacking Tywin.
Now massive fleets, armies, dragons etc. move across sea and country without apparently no-one of the opposing side tracking them, that's just cheaply done for me.

Season 4 is the best season for me. If I had to rank them from my favourite to my least favourite I'd say: 4 > 2 = 3 > 6 > 1 > 5. So far season 7 is shaping itself up to be level with season 6 in my personal table.

The Japanese Fleet at Pearl Harbor says hello. Stonewall Jackson at Chancelosville says hi. And many others.

Plus you have the numerous times intelligence is ignored because commanders choose not to believe it or it arrives too late.

Can't wait for tomorrow. I'm guessing HBO privately paid some ransom since there were no more leaks.

But do you think it honestly affects any viewership? I mean even if people see it in they will watch it again when it airs on TV for better quality. Like everyone who watched episode 4 last week on Friday said they rewatched it on Sunday to see in higher quality. But more than half the viewership are definitely streaming it every week. So does it matter if they download and watch it or if they just stream it?

Probably doesn't matter all that much in the grand scheme of things, but who knows. Does HBO have commercials before and after or is it all just show related stuff? Maybe they feel they'd lose out there.

No commercials on HBO. Not sure about the international partners. Here in Southern Africa, it airs uninterrupted. Because of the type of show, I can't think GoT has much product placement in it, so viewership numbers probably aren't that important for this show aside from the show makers justifying the huge budget for the show.

For me Season 1 and 4 are best. Followed by 2 and 3=6, 5.

Remains to be seen where 7 will end up, two poor episodes followed by a strong and then GOAT episode. Will definitely finish higher than 5.

Better stay out of this thread for a while then!

I was on hols right before the third episode aired until the Friday. I basically had to completely avoid the internet. It really is everywhere.
