Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Not the worst thing now though.
Now will be more action and less political moves and under handed scheming and double crossing. Sides are pretty much set and language will be simple / to the point.
With only 14, now 13, episodes left. It's gonna be almost a constant sprint to the end. No more setting stuff up for the future. Shit is gonna get straight to the point. I can see both the good and the bad in that. Although I have much more faith in the two showrunners in pulling off big, spectacular action sequences rather than making smart, witty dialogue without Martin.

Did they show that Arya bit towards the end of the episode just so they could show Ed Sheeran? Seemed pointless that whole bit.
I think the point of it was emphasising that not all the Lannister men are terrible people, and as much as there will be a group of soldiers that see a young girl and take advantage of her, there will be others who offer her some food and a place by the fire. For me it was a refreshing change of pace after the brutality that comes of a lot of chance meetings on the show.

Yeah I noticed that too on a rewatch. I didnt remember that from the first time and always thought he was a Lannister person. The stuff you see in a second watch is great.

Second.. third.. fourth... every time I watch them I spot something I never did before.

It will be cool when daenerys sends the dragon spitting fire on him and there he stands unharmed. He is off dragon blood. And she gives him droco and they rampage happily ever after.
Pretty sure Targaryan's are not all fireproof. One of the previous Targaryan kings drank wildfire and burned like anyone else. I don't think the show has given us reason to believe anyone other than Dany is fireproof.

Not only that, but he burnt himself in s2 I think it was trying to stop an undead when he threw a fire lamp.

GRRM has stated that they're not fireproof but Dany uses some kind of bloodmagic that protects her from getting burnt.

12 episodes*

I enjoyed it, good first episode. Arya killing all the Freys was the best part for me. Some solid revenge dished out with some nice lines after.

The Hound was entertaining but I found it a little strange how easily he was converted and just saw everything in the flames.

They don't have enough time left episode wise for him to piss about. I don't think we've ever seen someone other than the Red Priestess discuss what they saw in the flames though. I can't remember if Stannis ever mentions seeing something in the flames, but it seems to be something that's shown to few people. Hound will be an important player in the end events imo.

Good start to the season.. After all that wait, the episode seemed to finish in a blink of an eye..

Only gripe I would say is, they are making Arya too powerful.. Surely they must have caught her while trying to dispose Walder Frey's body even if she did the mission impossible-esque face change.. ..

Hound scenes were great.. Same with Jon and Sansa..

He's petrified of fire so he's never really looked in the flames before, I was more confused as to how easily he looked in the fire in the first place

Why should she have been caught? Murderers hide bodies all the time without getting caught in the process.

I think the whole point of her training was to make her this powerful. It was horrible TV and a rushed sequence, but if her training has paid off then she's now one of the most effective assassins in all the seven kingdoms.

I must have missed the episode where she perfected the art of voice impressions though. I didn't realize taking the face meant also taking the accent.

Well I suppose it was Walder's throne room.. Considering he is always there.. Carrying his body out without anyone seeing wouldn't be so easy..

Edit: Ya like @Arbitrium says.. Gave her too much power quickly I guess.. But with time running out to finish the series,I guess they didn't have time to show the whole buildup..

Yeah stannis saw a big fight in the snow in s3. I think Hound seeing stuff in the fire wasnt a problem. But as mentioned, he didnt need much persuasion to look into the fire itself lol.

There is definitely precedent. Melisandre shows Stannis a vision in the flames in 2x10 and he is very convinced by it. His wife is also shown a vision in the flames by Mel in season 4.

The group of soldiers arya meets, one of the guys says he should be out on a boat with his dad. Ser Davos son maybe?

Definitely not, we met Davos' son back in season 2 and he was killed in Blackwater. That scene was just about humanising Arya's enemies, reminding her that not all Lannisters are terrible people.

Don't have any problems with that. She's essentially been on the run or getting trained and put on the shelf for the past 4-5 seasons. Now it's time for some payback. And although powerful like the faceless dude, she's not power hungry like almost every other main character which makes it work. She's a badass assassin, judge, and executioner all rolled into one. Could lead to some lazy writing though, which if was your point, I agree with.

Must admit I completely forgot Ed Sheeran was in this and it completely took out of the show when I saw him there.

So how long are we thinking passed between the last season and first ep? Gillys kid seemed like about 2 years old.
Some of the characters looked like they aged 5 years (though probably only a month or two really).

Also need LF to die this season. Creepy bastard.
The day after, cause Arya said in the first scene "two feasts in two days".
