Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Standard GoT season opener, setting the chains in motion.

Bit weird that dragonstone was completely abandoned though, surely some would settle there.

Did they show that Arya bit towards the end of the episode just so they could show Ed Sheeran? Seemed pointless that whole bit.

Slow Build up. Solid episode. The best scene for me was the white walkers with 3 giants(min). Those guys are freak. Need more of bran. Arya was cool and hound was well okay. The euron/cersei/Jamie interaction was also well done. What is the gift that euron is talking about?

Overall a solid episode. 1 hour just flew by. Now 7 more days of waiting ..

Expected season opener. Was fun seeing Arya take them all out as Frey.
The fooking giants in the walker army. ffs. Was expecting to see Hodor too lol
Dragonstone meet up coming soon too with Dany and Jon Snow.

That was one big tease of an episode which has set up this season going forward now. We know where everybody is within the kingdom, whos on which side, and some motives.

Hound is the greatest though with his insults.

Pretty sure the cottage the hound stayed at was the one he and arya stayed at back in season 4 when they had rabbit stew and arya pretended to be his daughter.

I reckon he's going to attempt to (and maybe succeed) in killing Tyrion or bringing him back to Kings Landing. Can't think of much else she'd love to have that she doesn't already possess.

So how long are we thinking passed between the last season and first ep? Gillys kid seemed like about 2 years old.
Some of the characters looked like they aged 5 years (though probably only a month or two really).

Also need LF to die this season. Creepy bastard.

Why the feck was ed Sheeran in that at all, let alone with a "it's a new one" line of dialogue

Dragon Binder , Possibly.

  1. Whose banner is the one with the deer that Daenerys pulled down at Dragonstone?
  2. Who else besides Cersei is left on Arya's shit list?

Isn't that Stannis' old castle?

  • Cersei Lannister: falsely accused Arya’s father, Ned Stark, of treason and had him arrested, which led to his death
  • Ilyn Payne: beheaded Ned on orders from Joffrey Baratheon
  • Gregor “the Mountain” Clegane: tortured and killed people at Harrenhal, where Arya was imprisoned
  • Sandor “the Hound” Clegane: killed Arya’s friend, Mycah, the butcher’s boy
  • Melisandre: took Gendry away
  • Beric Dondarrion: sold Gendry to Melisandre
  • Thoros of Myr: sold Gendry to Melisandre

Solid opener. Nothing too extravagant, just some modest story progression that sets things in motion.

Fair enough as far as I'm concerned. The real shit starts now.

1 is Stannis, last dude known to hang out in Dragonstone and the deer is the Baratheon standard.

Also, didn't see any sign of the Cersei's maester who used to be banned. The one who created Franken-mountain. He's still alive, isn't he?

Been looking forward to this for months. Didn't disappoint, though I kind of expected them to come out with all guns blazing.

Outrageous pace in the first few minutes with the Freys, Cersei, Jaime and Euron -- it kind of petered out after that. Didn't think they had time for that kind of set up what with 13 episodes left and all, and a feckton of characters and plotlines to drive towards a conclusion.

Maybe I'm overthinking it, but another thing that struck me is that Benioff and Weiss struggle a bit without any proper source material to draw from -- though I'm sure they've been thrown a morsel here and there. Binging a couple of early seasons before starting S7 has really made that evident. Dialogue sounds very, very different from previous seasons. All the little clever jibs and jabs are gone (though they managed to squeeze in a 'cnut' here and there), and on the whole it's much more straight forward and direct than the "GRRMartinisms" from the books. Even the language itself seems to have changed a bit.

Still liked it though. Sansa is really showing some teeth. The women are generally in a strong position this season. Cersei, Arya, Yara, Daenerys, Sansa all have direct or indirect control over either armies or magic shapeshifting nonsense. But my guess is that most of them will start to get peeled off as we get closer to the climax.

Kyburn or Kyvurn or something. Didn't see him. Funnily enough though I've been rewatching the entire show recently and I never noticed before that Rob Stark and his wife Tulisa actually met him and saved his life very early on at Harrenhal I believe it was (could be some other castle), but he was dying and they gave him water. Then from there he stayed with the Boltons and eventually left with Jaime to Kings Landing.

Yup, pretty happy with that myself. Shit is gonna move a lot faster this season, that's for sure. Prolly means less of the jokey, light-hearted stuff which we got in seasons past from characters like the Hound and Bronn. I think this season is gonna be all about who's gonna rule Westeros. Then, towards the end of this season and next will be all-out war with the white walkers.

Interesting. I remembered he was the one who helped out Jaime when he got his hand chopped off.

Yeah I noticed that too on a rewatch. I didnt remember that from the first time and always thought he was a Lannister person. The stuff you see in a second watch is great.

Not to mention Melisandre still being around and will defo have a part to play.
And lady mormont being a total badass

All subtlety has gone from the dialogue. You have Cersei and Jaime spelling out to each other their thoughts like twelve year-olds, as if they hadn't thought to discuss this impending war together any time previously. Meanwhile Jon has to tell Sansa "you are undermining me" because, you know, we wouldn't be able to tell otherwise. Even Littlefinger's body language slaps you across the face, couldn't be more obviously scheming Jon's demise if he wore a badge saying "aims to sew dissent in the Stark camp".

Cheers. I think the Hound is off her list now.

Not the worst thing now though.
Now will be more action and less political moves and under handed scheming and double crossing. Sides are pretty much set and language will be simple / to the point.

Yeah that's a big turnoff, although it gives you hope that Martin wan't much involved in writing process, which means Book 6.

The human dissection scene also seems crass to me. Those two useless tits like to go for the shock value but it was just off-putting.
