Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

It's not easy to actually be hatable anymore though. We live in an age where 'bad' characters have been glorified. Where a good insult will make you laugh along with the cnut, but Joffrey is actually really really hatable. I can't say I feel the same way about any of the other characters in the show.

It's very easy to play such a dick of a character.

Indeed. Actors love playing villains for that very reason. He's a shit one dimensional character to be fair. As for Dance, he's okay, I suppose there's not much you can do with such a character. The dwarf's brilliant in every regard though, it's as if he's been accidentally written into the show. I guess he's the show's Han Solo - the only character with a personality.

Indeed, there's absolutely no complexity to his character, he just has to be a total and utter asshole.

Then you are not seeing his entire character. When he becomes angry, he is prone to madness and utter insanity, which brought up comparisons to the Mad King several times already.

Can't remember anyone comparing him to the Mad King? When did that happen in the show?

And he really doesn't need to become angry to act mad. He's doing it all the time, he hasn't said a single sane word in the whole show. He switches between beyond stupid and incredibly mad and once or twice he was crying like a baby, that's it so far.

Harsh! Very harsh ;)

Just a thought in general; those who have read the books are abundantly aware that they cannot talk book talk in this thread, but I wonder if those who have read the book and are keeping quiet (due to the rules) have opinions of characters based on what they know is going to happen in the season and beyond..

Honest question, as I don't know how far the series is straying from the books

Maybe me being a formet fat cnut makes me harsher than I should on fat characters in general.I mean I don't like Sam, I don't like Harry in Mad Men, I don't like Batista in Dexter.I do like Tony Soprano so ...

Good episode.

Whilst its obvious to feel bad for Sansa, I also feel quite bad for Tyrion. Joffrey has tried to kill him, Daddy has no respect for him and a wife who will not love him. Will be interesting how long this 'marriage' lasts.

I enjoyed the scenes between Davos & Stannis and between Cersei & Margaery.

 when Joffrey took away the stool at the wedding ceremony. Little cnut.

Daenerys continues to build her army. I can't wait to see her launch an attack on Kings Landing. Between her soldiers she's gaining and the dragons, she should win. Meanwhile, Robb is at some fecking wedding and has done feck all.

I'd like to see Arya reunited with her mother but her story and character is the most interesting imo, so it would be nice if she continued her own independent adventures.

Unless I misheard, Daenerys said it's only been 1 year since she got her dragons. I would've thought a bit longer time had passed since the end of season 1.

Yeah I think the timing is a little out because somewhere recently they mentioned Jamie being in capture for over 1 year and I'm pretty sure the dragons were born before that.

Jamie was captured in season 1 before the dragons were born. I think it was the same episode Ned Stark died. Robb sent 2000 men to attack Tywin's army the morning after Tyrion played that funny drinking game with Shae and Bronn while actually attacking Jamie's army with the large part of his men who sieged some castle - I think it was Riverrun, house of Tully, but I'm often confused about all the names, so I'm not sure. We never saw the battle, but Robb came back with Jamie as a prisoner.

That gave a lot of sense to Robb's actions earlier like letting the spy go and telling him that he's right, that his army has 20.000 men. I think it's very hard to follow those story plots who are heavily influenced by big battles when we don't get to see the battles because they are too expensive to produce. I rewatched season 1 two weeks ago, that's why I remember it now. Rewatching the show really helps to put things into the right order. There are so many clues in the earlier episodes I missed. It made rewatching the first season even better than when I watched it for the first time.

...ah but to play it convincingly is another kettle of fish because there are various elements to being a dick. A sly dick. An aggressive dick. A vulnerable dick etc..

And I think in his case he has shown all of the above.

Good point. Spot on

The dwarf is great. I'm nor sure I agree with your take on Jeoffrey's character. He's shown a few sides to him

Remember at the lake in season one when he was taken down by a character i can't remember. He was close to tears and looked petrified. Then you see how sadistic the cnut is, beating to the death the whores and taking joy in viewing and controlling sexual abuse

Joffrey is brilliant, I dunno what are you saying. He's such a hateable character and for every episode he set new standards. I would have probably punched just for the sake of it, if I would have met him and nobody was watching.

He's a cowardly and sadistic. Hardly a multi faceted character full of human complexities. Have you seen In Bruges, Kinks? He was very good in that too. And Nils, the Snow Ygritte story line is the most tedious. Anyway at least we can all agree...Oona's behind is magical.

Are you talking about the dwarf? Cos it's not the same actor, I don't think.

Or is there another actor from In Bruges who's in GoT?

Ciarán Hinds.

Don't think Spoony meant him, but he's in both.

Ah indeed, he's the priest at the beginning of In Bruges, isn't he? Well played.

I like that actor, think he was brilliant as Caesar in Rome and in secondary roles in films, I was glad to see they cast him as Mance.

I think that Peter Dinklage also played a role in 'Death at a Funeral' - which I thought was an hilarious film

Spoony probably thought he was the dwarf in Elf too. The dwarfist.

I used to work with a guy who....er.....well at the time I would have referred to him as a dwarf. Long story I can’t be arsed going into but in summary; he hates me. I’ve learnt that the term ‘restricted growth’ is the preferred term.

I met a Mexican dwarf the other week, a really funny girl that that looked pretty good for being so short, it was like she came straight out of a Jodorowsky film.

Sorry, folks my mistake. I'm not racist but dwarves can look very similar.

In fact they look nothing alike.
