Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

I am, because, quite frankly, Weiss and Benioff are pretty much on their own now, might have minor ideas from GRRM, but I think they are going to heavily their own way.

And bookreaders can't be smug no more. Since the final two seasons will probably come out before book 6 anyway. How fresh is that going to be? It's all fair game, except for deeper stuff.

Winds of Winter is expected out next year some time so I doubt they'll go on their own. They spent a week living in GRRM's home writing for season five, most likely they'll do similar this year. Also, they start filming end if July/August so the season six script is probably already finished. The answers book readers have been waiting for for four years (is that a legit way to say that?) will be spoiled should the book drop anythim after April 2016.

It was awful. Despite a few great moments in the episode last night, it was a truely shit final episode overall in my opinion. It's incredible how far the quality of the show has dropped since the first two seasons. It has become a sequence of big shock moments that fail to develop the story further with pointless stuff inbetween. Most of the shocking moments don't even make sense or at least are totally pointless in their own arc, let alone in the overall story, e.g. Shireen's death. And pretty much everything shocking that happened this season was completely predictable.

Too many great characters are gone or simply forgotten/ignored and half the time the show looks like a parody of its former quality self. Character development is usually forced into short dialogues and barely noticeable until the next big shocking moment reminds you that something important was said in a 30 second dialogue a few episodes back.

It's still entertaining, in a weird trashy way, and the production is of such a high quality for a tv series that it's worth watching to the end. A few of the story arcs are still interesting (e.g. Arya or Cersei), but because they're completely disconnected from what seems to be the overall plot (the fight vs the whitewalkers) 5 seasons into the show, they also feel pointless and it takes away all the tension.

Oh and if Dany really is back in the Dothraki sea and her already repetitive story goes back to what we saw in season 1, they managed to top the shit writing with the most annoying idea ever.

The season's been a total mess, no more so than in the last two episodes.

Definitely the worst season so far.

Think I'll miss Stannis, the actor playing him was really quite good. Even felt a bit sorry for him in the end. :(

Brilliant season, incredible episode.

I'll be in meltdown mode if the next season starts and Jon is legit dead though. fecking cnuts if he is.

Great season even if the last episode was slightly low key but then it was going to be after episode 8. Sets the next season up really well.

This season has been the most coherent storytelling so far.

Melisandre blatantly stitched Stannis up from the start. The question is why?

I can't believe they showed Benjen in the preview just to stab Jon. Outraged.

I actually enjoyed this episode but I agree with a lot of this. The show's writing standard had definitely gone down since the first couple of seasons.

The show USP with wider audience did become the shock moments and it has decided to double down on them rather than just tell a good storyline.

Don't think so. I think she expected something else to happen after the sacrifice but was shocked that it did not and hence herself is feeling lost now.
I don't think she was feeling lost, I think she was going after Jon (look up R+L=J theories) and maybe it was meant to be a metaphorical victory that she promised Stannis instead of a literal one, for example he was freed from his suffering of killing his only child, brother and inadvertently killing his wife.

Didn't she say a few episodes back when she tried to feck Jon Snow that Stannis' power was withering or something similar? She was defiantly implying that she was losing faith in him.

Feeling a bit meh after that.

I don't believe Jon Snow is actually dead forever. It makes no sense going forward.

I'll have to give the episodes another watch but if that's true then it does make sense she'd return to wall in search of Jon but also it makes me think she knew Stannis was going to lose from the start and the whole sacrificing Shireen thing was just so she could make her way back to Castle Black unhindered. Where does all this resurrection thing come from though, which people are speculating, I seem to have forgotten if it was on the show.

In season three Arya gets picked up by the Brotherhood Without Banners, led by Thoros of Myr (Dennis Pennis/Mike Strutter dude) and Beric Dondarrion (eye-patch dude). Beric duels The Hound and loses, but Thoros then brings him back to life. After that, they all bump into Melisandre, and it's pretty clear that Thoros, Beric and her all belong to the same religious order. So if Thoros can do that kind of stuff, perhaps she can as well.

Ah yeah of course, now this makes me kind of hopeful Jon isn't really dead. Knowing this show that's what it wants you to think then just leave you ruined when he doesn't actually return.

Jon can't be dead. Hate that Red Bitch but she better put in some work and bring him back. Then Jon can get the feck out of the nights watch as his oath is only until death and he has died so doesn't have to stay with them haha

I can see him being brought back, free to do as he pleases (maybe after the wall gets fecked by the WW army), and something like he takes back winterfell for Sansa/Bran and Rickon and that plays a big part in the last stand.

I so fecking pissed off.. I've managed to avoid spoilers for my entire time watching GOT which makes it a lot more enjoyable a shock factor but this episode I managed to see a picture online of Jon lying dead (what turned out to be the final scene) which I refused to believe and then some fecking dip shit on my news feed this morning stayed up until 4am to watch it on an American channel just to write an RIP Jon Snow status. I know you could say it was my own fault for going on social media but its like an unwritten rule any people I know who watch the show never write a status until everyone has seen it on the Monday night.

Now that my rant is over I some how see Jon Snow becoming a White Walker, the White Walker leader gave the impression he was impressed with Jon in episode 8. If not that I reckon the Lord of Light Priestess will resurrect him or something.

Daenerys Targaryen looked to be captured which would have ruined her story as they circled around her until the circle got bigger which made it look like they were happy to see her, I hope she gets that army and makes a move on Westeros next season. She's by far my favorite character/story and very easy on the eye! How did she lose her army of Dothraki again?

Stanis getting completely fecked over by everyone including the weather this season was a bit of a downer, really wanted him to take the north.

Also that ''Shame'' scene went on way too long.. very interesting King's Guard at the end though!

Last episode: Hope melisandre dies, that bitch

This episode: Save us melisandre.

Not the best season imo, but I enjoyed that finale. Have they truly finished a season like that so far? Four or five stabs and he was out. But surely the timing of melisandre coming back has to play a big part in this story. Hes too much of a great character and theres for him that it cant just end there. Mystery of his mum, the fact he killed a white walker, his brothers and sisters still being out there and alive. Then again, wouldnt surprise me if they hinted to coming back to life for ... then it just not happening..

Aryas story was great, enjoyed her doing what she did. Given shes going blind, maybe shes losing her face for good and will be a nobody.

I was feeling a little sorry for Cersei, didnt think that would happen. Having Frankenmountain now taking a vow of silence until he avenges her will be really interesting. Given her daughter will now be dead added to that will be something as well.

Always good to see Varys, and him and Tyrion are good together. The search for Dany, hope it doesnt drag a whole season now, would like to see Dany do something other than just sitting around.

Cant believe how quickly this season went by. And we have to wait nearly a whole fecking year for more. nooooo

I'd be surprised if they did bring back Jon. Red woman looked like she had lost all faith in her Lord of Light, also does she even have the resurrection power?

At the rate they're killing characters, I'm half expecting Gendry to turn up and take the Iron Throne once everyone else is dead!!

There's noway JS is dead for real - Davos and Melisandre coming back to the wall is no coincidence.
Maybe he'll warg into Ghost and somehow back into a repaired body, who knows. Or a quick res from Melisandre?
Despite Kit Harringtons interview, there's noway he's gone from the series. It wouldn't make any sense in terms of R+L=J, confrontation with the White Walker King, etc etc.

It's all building hype for next season (or until GRRM releases TWOW, whichever happens first!)

Does this show really deserve having the joint* highest ever rating on IMDb? I know it's good but is it THAT good? The best show of all time?

I really want to start a new series but I'm not really into this genre (never got that into LOTR either). Could be swayed if this is as good as people say!
Don't take show ratings on IMDB too seriously - they're all inflated. GoT is a decent show and it's obviously down to personal taste, but I wouldn't put it in the highest tier.

Can't wait for queen Margaery's atonement

Haha good shout but Cersei body was that of a body double, my girlfriends best friend was auditioning for the part, big money in getting naked on TV without showing your face!

How the feck are they gonna make a trailer for next season when we're unsure if like four of the major characters are alive or not.
