Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

When they were all surrounded I knew (or more so really fecking hoping) the Dragon would come and feck everyones shit up! Such a bad ass episode.

I want a dragon :(

I'm guessing they're still fairly young and will grow into something like above.

Edit: With skin and stuff.

Yes, dragons continue to grow for their entire life. The reason that skull is so huge is because it belonged to a dragon that lived for many, many years. Khaleesi's are relatively young still.

Hmmm... Why do I have the feeling that the child burning scene was done more for shock value and less for any actual meaningful plot development?

Oh, and at the end of the episode, one of my friends remarked "well that was a bit Neverending story..." which I thought was quite funny.

Also, all this Arya stuff is really, really, really, (really) shit.

Yeah agreed about the child sacrifice. Cheap stuff.

What is 'meaningful' plot development anyway? Do the extremes that a power hungry religious fanatic would go to in his quest for power in a show about the quest for power not fit?

Not especially - we already knew that he's desperate for it and would go to extremes (extremes can exist without burning your daughter - which, as Spoony said, could be seen as cheap and lazy)... Besides, if anything, it makes him look a bit more stupid because he's just elminated the last of his bloodline.

I'd put this along with Ramsay raping Sansa... (which so far has achieved nothing) - we already knew that Ramsay was a sick, depraved dude... was there any need to add to that at the expense of another character? Who conversely, plunged to new depths of patheticness?

Maybe that's a bit OTT, and I'll wait to see how it all plays out... but yeah, shock's for the sake of being shocking gets tired up to a point.

I agree, the shocks seem more for shock sake now than plot development. I'm sure Stannis, this great commander we are continually told, has faced worst.

I think the tv writers have really taken over now. Still, I think a lot of people will rate this season (or the early part at least) as the worst, but at least the Dorne storyline now threatens to bring the politics back.

I really liked the episode, pretty much all of it.

I did find it funny when all the tents started burning and thought "ramsey and 20 men rofl".

Those screams just kept getting louder and louder :( Such a sad but powerful scene. I dont think it was done just for shock tho (like the Sansa scene with Ramsey), theyve been building towards that for a while now , and given they even brought it up in the first place, you kinda had a feeling it would happen towards the end of the season.

Im so glad they didnt go the with the cliched "no jon snow, you cannot enter with your wildings" part. Also didnt Olly kill ygritte? I can see his hate for wildlings increasing and he will either kill Gilly or her baby, or try and do something and get mad at Snow and try kill him. Hope he fails spectacularly.

The Arya stuff was decent too. Trant was one of the first names on Aryas list right? She may get to finally take out Needle and use it on him

Stuff in Dorne is bleh. been the major disappointment of this season, especially with how Oberyn was last year and how it was described.

But that final scene, I absolutely loved it. Tyrion with Dany has made that sooo much better. Good to see ser friendzone getting back in her good graces, and I like how it was done. He could have been killed a few times but eventually won. We all expected the dragon, but when it came, it was still badass. Burning everybody, taking spears but not really going down.

Stadium was pretty empty by then so she wasnt really leaving the rest behind to die. I liked it :)

Stannis has come too far to just give up, which was his only other option, as far as he could see.

They didn't have to show it, but this is a world where women are, for the most part, property. There's probably more rape victims than healthy relationships in the 7 kingdoms.

This whole show sometimes looks like a one big rape experiment.

The scene where all the Harpee start rising out of the crowd was fecking sweet...was shot well.

Yeah, they've actually been one of the cooler parts of the series for me. I don't know if it's the music, the masks or the way they're presented but they're brilliant.

At this point, I don't even care who wins the game of thrones. I'm more interested in the White Walkers.

Last week was so epic, the petty politics of Cersei and Dorne was always going to be a bit of a come down. It makes all of the other characters seem so petty really when there's a genuine apocalypse coming from the north that they're all ignoring.

I can't believe the Dragon is named Drogon. Couldn't she have come up with something better like Dave?

Tbf, I'm pretty sure it's named after Khal Drogo. If memory serves, the 3 dragons are named after Drogo and her 2 brothers. All 3 of which are now dead. Which is a bad sign really.

The Unsullied are fecking useless.
Apart from throwing a few spectators out for standing up.
I hope next season doesn't turn into a quest to find Danyres. There has been enough padding in this season already.

I've a feeling next season will see them in Old Valerya (spelling?). That's where the stonemen seem to live and isn't it the historic home of both the Tageryans and dragons? We've seen feck all of yet and it'll be the natural next step in Danaerys's story. Jorah will have infected Dany by touching her and they'll be forced to go to Valerya for the remedy. Will also give them a chance to pick up some Valeryan steel to kill White Walkers with (they'll probably find Gendry working in the forge!).

She can't go back to Westeros until relatively close to the end.

They're effective mainly in a bus formation.

If they're desperate and depraved characters then they're going to go to extremes. It seems odd to say such events shouldn't be portrayed because the audience already understand these elements of their character.

Not that I agree with that, it was a whole new level of devotion by Stannis.

With regard to Unsullied, seems they are mostly to fight a war, in formation. In a street fight when being ambushed, they arent great. TBH, at least theyve only been shown when ambushed and outnumbered.

That seems to make the most sense actually in terms of what happens next.

Also unrelated, I like how the episode was all about choices for most of the characters (arya, stannis, dany, oberyns chick) especially given the book Shireen was reading and how she stated she wouldnt make a choice as thats what caused the problem. All of them had a choice to make and with each one will come (or came) consequences.

Guess for most people, killing younger brother isnt crossing the line, but killing the daughter is. lol

Forget fighting, they can't even frisk people entering a stadium properly. I mean you'd think it would be fairly easy to spot all the feckers with knives and masks.

Am I only one who wanted Ser Friendzone to die?

So sick of his pathetic lovesick puppy dog routine.

The fight was shit too. Predictably his opponent had him on the ground but doesn't kill him, before that spear guy intervened only to be killed himself. I am so shocked. That was so surprising.

Also wasn't arsed about Shireen dying. Onion Knight next please. Then Stannis. Kill all that lot.

How could you want Davos to die? He's the Juan Mata of westeros. For shame.

Still don't get how it looked so small compared to before. The other two looked small but I remember people saying it's because they've been locked up while Drogon is massive cos he does what the feck he wants. A bit disappointed in it to be honest.
It's fair to assume that dragons live for hundreds of years? And they are what, a few years old now? It's basically a fire-breathing kitten with wings.

This is the second episode this season the Unsullied have been killed with ease, these are supposed to be the best soldiers in the land, training like Spartans since they were kids with no fear what so ever.. what gives? Out numbered or not you wouldn't expect half of them to die the way they did, with simple errors..etc

Training all there lives, yes, but not fighting a war/guerrilla war. This is their first real fight and they're failing.

Watching the Meereen scene again, the similarities between Drogon and the Hungarian Horntail cannot be unseen. That, and Peter Dinklage has a pretty awesome beard.

I'm rooting for the white walkers. It'd be great to see the ice horns walker sitting on the iron throne with zombie Cersei beside him.

It's true that the walkers are vulnerable to certain things, but as things are going, there won't be anyone of any significance left to fight them. Looks like the Boltons and Stannis will destroy eachother leaving the north for Littlefinger and John Snow isn't enough to stop them.

The dragons are a threat, but then again the strongest one was nearly slained by a couple of ordinary spears thrown by masked hillbillies. The other two are chained in a dungeon and might not even see the light of day again, ableit unlikely. They are only a threat to the wights anyway.

I swear Jorah has that greyscale disease and whoever he touches gets infected straight away too. So does that mean Danaerys is going to get it as well?
