Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Agreed with the less column but I would add Hodor (god), Melisandre, Davos and Mycroft Holmes in the More column.

I certainly agree on Hodor, Davos has had a few moments but it would be nice if he picked up.

It would be nice if Melisandre became less one-dimensional.

Your idea whelms me.

I hate to be the one to tell you this Cina, but you just invented an 800 year old word. You donkey.

whelm
[hwelm, welm] Show IPA verb (used with object)

1.
to submerge; engulf.
2.
to overcome utterly; overwhelm: whelmed by misfortune.
verb (used without object)
3.
to roll or surge over something, as in becoming submerged.

Origin:
1250–1300; Middle English whelme, apparently blend of dial. whelve ( Old English gehwelfan to bend over) and helm2 (v.) ( Old English helmian to cover)

So the idea bent him over and surged over him.

Who do you think the mother is?

From the last episode, my guess is Melisandre. The way she looked at Snow really meant something. I'm not sure if she's capable of having children though

I thought she just saw something in him. Maybe royal blood like she saw in Gendry. But could be anything - like when she told Arya you'll kill three people with different coloured eyes.

Yes but looks like they forgot/didn't want to show that he was working towards marching north. I can't remember any bit this season which hinted towards him moving north...so yeah...

Well he had no army to march North with! That was the whole point of his story arc this Season. Once he got the money from the Iron Bank he was ready to go North. Joffreys death caused the Iron Bank to switch allegiances from the Lannisters to the Stannis. Which in turn allowed Stannis to raise an army of hired men (as was hinted at all Season) and go North like he said he would in Season 3.

You don't need your hand holding each step of the way, they laid it out in enough episodes. It's why I like this writing, they threw hints at the viewer but don't make it plainly obvious. It's smart writing.

Brienne has a fecking solid record. 3-0 vs a fully fit Loras Tyrell, Jaime Lannister at 50% and Sandor Clegane at around 80%.

Starved and in handcuffs(if memory serves) =75%?

Well, he had two feet and one hand, that's 75% of his limbs.

I'm not sure how starved he was, he felt well enough to challenge her to a sword fight so it couldn't have been 25%. I can see him being arrogant enough to think he could beat her at half strength though.

How about 67%?

 Its jamie, he would have challenged her if he only had one hand. At that point he believed himself to be the best swordsman in westoros while she was a girl, given the alternative of continued to be held captive, its obvious why he challenged her.

And POWs in an enemy camp would be pretty starved imo. Its all academic anyway.

I didn't get the impression Clegane was inhibited that much if at all.

I'd say Clegane at 95% and Jaime at 75%.

Yeah Clegane was full of chicken but his neck/back was injured. Brienne also had the advantage of having a Valyrian steel sword against him.

Oberyn should have a 1-0 record against arguably the most feared man in Westeros but we know what happened there. I still count that as a victory for him tbh, even if his blades were poisoned.

That's true, and he knows that she won't try to kill him. What's the worst that could happen, he's captured by Bolton men and they cut his hand off?

What are the odds.

The fight didn't seem to indicate he had any weakness, I didn't see him holding his body strangely or seeming to struggle to raise the arm on the injured side of his neck.

Would have been cool if the Valyrian sword just sliced through the lesser one. Haven't seen one used to great advantage yet, didn't help Ned beat Jaime.

Is Ned's dueling sword Valyrian? I thought it was just the one he used to behead Night's Watch deserters. Seems too big to use in combat.

I thought so, that's where Tywin got the steel to make Jaime and Joffrey's swords. He didn't go to Winterfell to get the sword.

Finally got around to watching the finale, and it was excellent. Huge improvement from the previous week, and I can see why the creators of the show thought this was their best episode ever. Covered a lotta ground, probably moreso than any other episode really. Felt like there were 3 episodes' worth of plot lines in just this one episode.
Amazed at how deeply people are thinking about Shae and Tyrion. For me it's pretty simple - Shae really did love Tyrion and to her, with different values than your average Westerosi, sending her away was the ultimate act of betrayal rather than a good deed, and the fact he tried to pay her a huge hunk of money to go was just the icing on the cake. So the perfect chance for revenge was to become Tywin's whore.
Is it really revenge though if Tyrion never finds out? I mean he was on his way to getting killed without ever knowing. Not saying that Shae never loved Tyrion, but if she did, her character really does a 180 towards her feelings for Tyrion. And by the way, why did Tyrion go back into the Hand's chambers? Was his intention to kill Tywin all along? I mean he couldn't have been thinking that he'd have a conversation with Tywin and that he'd then let him go, could he? If you had been locked up and waiting for impending death, wouldn't you just hightail it outta there instead of going back to tie up loose ends?

Sad to see the Hound and Tywin die (assuming that they do die) but won't mind seeing the boy go who was with Bran. Always got the feeling the sickly boy was halfway to death's doorstep anyways. Thought that the fight between the Hound and Brienne was sick. Might have been the best 1v1 fight in the entire series. Glad to see that the infected bite wound wasn't the direct cause of the Hound's death. Although, it probably slowed him down enough for Brienne to get the best of him. Arya could have nipped it in the bud, but she's becoming less of a human being and more and more feral-like. Doubt that her even running into her brothers and sister would be enough to set her straight from her single-handed mission of revenge and becoming the biggest badass in Westeros.

Guess we'll have to wait until next season to find out the whereabouts of Rickon--the youngest Stark boy, Gendry--the Baratheon bastard son who's a blacksmith, Catelyn Stark's brother and uncle, and the white walkers. For that matter, did anyone notice Ghost in this episode? Did he survive the attack on Castle Black? Also curious to see what Franken-Mountain will turn out like.

I loved the skeletons. Reminded me of this:

In fact, when you consider Game of Thrones has Dragons, Skeletons, Imps, Giants etc, it makes you realise that they totally ripped off Golden Axe!
