Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Tywin's death seemed a little strange to me. I mean Tyrion just walks up and kills 2 people just like that. Or probably the bells were to indicate an emergency and we might get to see a maester treat him back to health?
Besides, I still think the whole Stannis coming over to fight the wildlings was a little too convenient for me. There was no proper build up leading to it.

I didn't get the point to Brienne killing the Hound (wounding - we haven't seen him die yet). She now knows Arya is alive - Does she know Sansa is? She might just turn out to be a pointless character in the show next season.

The Bran storyline is turning into a Harry Potter like series.

It's all pretty underwhelming now.

Stannis, check back in previous episodes, you will find out why Stannis was there.

Briene knows Arya is alive. She believes Sansa to be alive, that is who Jamie sent her out to find, remember.

What annoyed me was how easy it was for Jaime to release Tyrion.

Yeah I thought that. He goes from being completely useless to knocking them out no problem. And only 2?

There was a lot of sloppy and half explained moments I thought. And whoever guessed 'Stannis' would show up at the wall clearly knew that, because it was mentioned very slighty before in the program but all the way from where he was to there out of the blue? That's some guess. But worse than that, it just didn't seem right in terms of the program, the whole thing seemed miss-placed.

It's like one night of fighting where the watch repelled the attack, then that's it for the 100,000 strong army? Where were the giants, and in fact it is said that it was an attack testing their defences, then why did they send their best men/giants?

Possibly because the 100000 are not one unit of army but are scattered all over in their own camps, etc. It was said how they always fought amongst each other and it took Mance Rayder to unite them with great difficulty which means while they are fighting on the same side for the same cause they're not really a disciplined unit that appears on one command. Stannis seemed to have attacked right at the camp where Mance was and capturing him would render the whole unity of the wildlings useless as before, like Jon said in the last episode.

I do hope for an explanation of how Stannis reached that point. He clearly didn't cross the wall via land, so possibly he reached their on his ships. I remember looking at the map and Braavos, his last location, was up in the north in the Essos so possibly he just made his way around the wall in ships.

The strangest part of the Stannis thing was how the hell did they get over the wall without being seen? The only possible explanation is they used the gate but getting that amount of horse through not only would have taken time but they would have been seen by at least 1 of the 100,000 wildings.

My guess is Stannis is there to try get them to join him in his quest to regain the throne.

There are other castles along the wall including up the sea. Could have simply sailed to Eastwatch-by-the-Sea (I think its called) and crossed there. Bran and his people also got over relatively easily, the wall seems fairly easy to cross northwards.

What's the story with the 3 dragons then? Didn't her family take kings landing while riding dragons? yet she can't control hers now so what chance has she when they become as big as the skull and bones under kings landing?

Think the dragons would do anything for her for another nude scene.

...but then why the line "what have you done??"

Because it was obvious that he went somewhere else before going to Varys - all those killings weren't done in a second. And, maybe, the look on the Imp's face.

Who was it on here was guessed that Stannis would appear at the wall. There was zero indication in the show that it would happen, I reckon the banstick should be used on them.

edit: Never mind, just remembered melisandre telling him to go north last season.

Well, it would've been pointless to test the Wall's defenses without the giants.

I thought about where the giants were when the Stannis attacked (where would you be when diarrhea stannis strikes) - but maybe they were mourning their king that was killed last night? It's the only explanation. I would've loved some giants vs riders action :(

Yeah, but he clearly said he sent his best men in. You don't do that when 'testing' defences!

...but then why the line "what have you done??"

My guess was that rather than show up at the door when he was supposed to, he was a bit late, but maybe it was supposed to be something in his eyes Varys was acting on.

Wasn't there scratch marks all over Tyrion's face from Shae? Looked like it on my crappy stream. I'm guessing Varys was wondering what happened.

Varys might have asked that because Tyrion didn't show up straight away. Double murder usually takes a while in my experience.

Disappointing episode.

Two great characters gone with The Hound and Tywin. It made no sense that Tyrion could jsut walk around the castle killing people. Where were the guards`? Also why didnt he kill Cersei instead of Tywin? Would have made more sense given what we've seen of actual character interaction in the series. Does Tyrion honestly think Tywin had a choice not to sentence him after that trial? He even had an out lined up for him by sending him north if Tyrion hadnt gone full retard during the trial ffs. Im getting really tired of Tyrion, this was just stupid.

Stannis showing up felt like a deus ex machina light. Yes it was hinted at, but last we saw of him he was far away from the wall, and then for him to just show up and solve the issue is poor writing. How did he get past the wall? If he could just cross with 50k men far to the east or whatever as obvious book readers are suggesting then why didnt the wildlings do the same instead of trying to cross at the chokepoint of Castle Black?

Why were Arya and the Hound still walking around the wilderness. The Hound announced that Arya Stark was at the gates, then the Stark loyal people of the Erie (fck spelling) wouldnt let her in??

I feel like really whiney now but I didnt like this episode at all. Overall this season has been great but didnt like this one.

And I just realised Ive missed first half of Portugal Germany because I was watching GoT  its so addictive this show

He was only in the Tower of the Hand. Tywin's private quarters.

Braavos is not too far from the wall. Wildlings didn't have ships.

Where did the 50K figure for Stannis' army come from?

Also, Bross, go back and watch the scenes from all the seasons with Tywin and Tyrion and even one very important one with Tyrion, Bronn and Shea. Might help you understand the problems of their relationship a bit better.

He was only in the Tower of the Hand. Tywin's private quarters.

They showed him getting in through some sort of a manhole, didn't they? So I'm assuming he got right into Tywin's bedroom/whatever.

But odd that someone's bedroom would have a manhole like thing - and whats even more odd that Tyrion knew about it and that there was a connection from the exit (or wherever Jaime left him) directly to Tywin's room. I mean it all seemed so very conveniently done!

Presumably Tyrion used to live there when he was Hand of the King.

Tywin always talked about family. He just didnt want Tyrion to marry a whore because that would reflect poorly on the family. Cersei was the one who always wanted Tyrion dead. Cant help but feel like Tyrion's resentment for his father was unwarranted. Killing his father was way over the top.

I think you need to go back and watch some scenes again.
