Can explain the importance of that iron coin that Arya gave to the captain?

I've forgotten the plot of previous seasons.

The assassin guy who changes appearance gave it to her and said it would get her passage to Bravos whenever she needed it.

I'm way behind all you guys, I'm on episode 3 at the moment, and I have to say I pissed myself laughing during Petyr's first scene. What the hell is up with his accent? He turned into a pirate just because he was on a boat? The accent then actually changed a couple of more times during the same scene. I think someone should do a Youtube compilation of all his accents. He'll go into full Carcetti mode by the end of the show, I'm sure of it.

Also, Stannis' army beyond the wall would mean someone gave him a free pass through the gates? And whyw as he even there? Were there any hints earlier that he should be riding to the wall/beyond?

Yes there were hints, I re-watched the episode the other day.
When Sam first returned with his boring missus, they told the old blind guy about the white walkers. He then wrote to everyone including Davos, who had learnt to read and somehow used the letter to stop stannis killing him.
The red woman then 'looked into the fire' and miraculously saw that 'death marched on the wall' or something.

I was actually wondering when they were going to follow up on that scene - I was anticipating in episode 9 that stannis would ride into castle black as ygritte and co. looked like overrunning it...

That look the red woman gave Jon snow as they burnt the bodies, wonder if anything will come of that...

She has some fascination with bastard sons with royal blood or whatever, does she not? What happened to that other guy she kidnapped? Where'd he go? And who were the names with the leeches she threw into the fire ages ago?

Grayjoy is the only one left alive that she mentioned.

Jon's getting some red woman loving!

But yeah I pretty much called the main bits. Sucks about the hound though. All in all a decent episode, but I found my mind wandering a bit too much. The surprise deaths and all that is a big part of it for me, but it's getting well overdone now. Arya looks like she is going to be much more boring now, but maybe Tyrion and Varys will be a comedy duo?

How much longer until the next season? Can't wait already

Disappointed that someone here "speculated" about Stannis going to help on the Wall, of course, maybe that was a genuine guess but now I highly doubt so. Still, very moving scene with the riders.

Some of the expected twists in Tyrion's escape and Arya going to Braavos, but with some unexpected details, killing Shae and Tywin (I'm sad to see Charles Dance go - but I don't think that he'll live after that), two giants fighting, Varys departure

Didn't like the Frankenstein-Mountain scene. GRRM, seriously? And those skeletons and the fire-bombs looked like they were straight from the 70-80-s.

Dany still isn't convincing and her "problems" aren't interesting. Oh, I want to end slavery! But the old slaves want to live like they lived! And sometimes slavery is better than freedom if it means saving innocent goats and children! Meh.

Great episode overall.

So, what's next?
  • Jon Snow is now in the big game, probably - the Red Woman's look was promising. Or was it just about his thing with the redheads? And Stannis is going to conquer the North (how the hell did he went to the Wall in the first place without killing Bolton's? If the wildlings have 100,000 than there should be at least 50,000 riders, they couldn't all came from the see)
  • The big fight between Cercei and the piggy-face (forgot the name shamefully, she is stunning) for the influence on the new king
  • Probably some brilliant action with this new Varys-Tyrion pairing
  • Arya to Braavos :drool::drool::drool:
  • Baelish to continue plotting
Well, I am officially excited

So Arya is going to Dany? Where is Tyrion going?

Arya is going to the Free City of Braavos and Dany is sitting in the slave East. This isn't the same places, although they're all very sunny.

If you really want soap opera that isn't actually a soap opera try Chicago Fire. My missus watches that (for the firemen I hope) and it makes me want to stab myself repeatedly in the eyes and ears to make it stop. Fireman finds he has a sister from an affair his father had, he gets to know sister who is a Chef, she cooks dinner for the firehouse, starts to get close to another foreman, gets kidnapped and raped by some criminal her brother pisses off, she gets rescued, leaves to stay with her mother who is in California (not mention previously) seemingly OK with the world. Brother and potential fireman boyfriend seem fine 5 minutes later. Sister is never mentioned again.

Spoilers!

@Wibble why has this been attributed to me? This is someone else's post?

Yeah, that wound me up.

I'll have a look at it in tbe morning and delete anything confusing or wrong or whatever

the whole story about Brann is really weird. Too much magic.
Why was stannis in the north? and how could he just capture the king of a 100.000 men army? I must have missed that somehow.

decent episode. Few unexpected things and again many cliffhanger.

Check the earlier episodes for your answer to why he was North of the wall. The explanation for how he got there will probably come next season for the show watchers.

100,000 wildlings, but not disciplined fighters, caught by surprise by a well trained army.

Can explain the importance of that iron coin that Arya gave to the captain?

I've forgotten the plot of previous seasons.
The coin was given to her by J'can H'qar (sp?) at the end of season 2, the assassin who granted her three wishes because she saved his and two of his friends' lives. She used two, and this was the third.

Not wishes, he granted her 3 lives (=kills). And the coin was a gesture of gratitude, not the wish, if I remember correctly, because she changed her wish and instead of giving him his name she asked him to kill the guards and help them escape. And, probably, because he saw that she can be a killer like him in the future.

You are right. She named him as the third kill, and he helped her escape if she agreed to un-name him, a smart move by Arya. And yeah the coin was a bonus, a great bonus as it seems.

Can't believe I had Tyrion killing Tywin spoiled by some spotty little cnut in the Youtube comments of a completely unrelated video last week.

Didn't want the Hound to die. What the feck was Shae doing? What an absolute cnut of a whore.

Jaime and Tyrion's farewell and Dany having to chain up the dragons after the whole season being about her freeing people :(

How did Tyrion just get to roam around the palace without any guards seeing him? Surely Tywin would have at least a couple of guards around him at all times? Other than that I thought it was a great episode. Wrapped up everything that has happened this season and built up to next season nicely.
Arya and Tyrion are both going to Bravos aren't they? Can see them crossing paths if so.

I really like the way Dany's world is gradually unraveling. She's losing cities, relenting on slavery, chaining up her dragons... it'll just be a matter of time before she turns cold-hearted, hopefully. She's been the most 2-diemsional character in the show so far and that's what's turned viewers against her. A change in her personality can only be good for the series.

Were we told where Tyrion was being taken?

Didn't Jamie tell him that Varys was waiting to take him somewhere? I feel like he said Bravos. Could be wrong though.

Edit: Quickly rewatched that part, Jamie just says that Varys is waiting to take him to the free cities. Which free city is anybody's guess.

Good episode, glad Dany is taking such a back seat and it didn't end on her. Enjoyed the Brienne/Hound fight, just a shame we lost a good character at the end of it and I'm gutted at losing another great actor in Charles Dance, loved some of his longer speeches.

It was the lack of nudity

I love the way people spam the thread with questions that can't possibly be answered until next season and then spaz out when a book reader drops a hint.

Good finale. That fight was brutal. Didn't want either to die really. It wasn't really clear whether Tywin or the Hound was dead and that was probably deliberate to leave a bit of a cliffhanger. You'd expect Stannis to be able to steamroller through Westeros now especially if his prisoners fight for him.

Surely the "you will be able to fly" comment just means him warging into a raven (or more likely a dragon). I think even for this show a flying cripple would be a tad ott.

There are a fair few characters now that need a new story arc in the show (Tyrion, Brienne, Snow). Next season should be interesting.
Maybe there was a maester hiding behind that rock after all.

The free cities are Bravos I think.

The Iron Bank is in Bravos. I can't see an imp being able to hide away in a city like that for long. If he tried, the Lannisters' paymasters would probably snatch him up fairly quickly. He'd have to go somewhere out of the reach of his family. It'd be great if the Dothraki could make a reappearance in the show.

Tywin's death seemed a little strange to me. I mean Tyrion just walks up and kills 2 people just like that. Or probably the bells were to indicate an emergency and we might get to see a maester treat him back to health?
Besides, I still think the whole Stannis coming over to fight the wildlings was a little too convenient for me. There was no proper build up leading to it.

I didn't get the point to Brienne killing the Hound (wounding - we haven't seen him die yet). She now knows Arya is alive - Does she know Sansa is? She might just turn out to be a pointless character in the show next season.

The Bran storyline is turning into a Harry Potter like series.

It's all pretty underwhelming now.
