Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Not liking it is fair enough, but to say it was dull and boring is laughable.

So that's what you have to say? Deal with it. This episode was shite. A lot of others would agree with me.

What happened in this episode that none of expected?

What happened that was exciting to see?

Half of the episode was focused on that obese unfunny Samwel and his cringe worthy cliched "I promise you I wont leave" dialogues.

The battle was confusing to follow itself. In most of the scenes brothers of the nights watch were dying but in the end, they are victorious?

This season has been the worst, but still had some good episodes. This particular one was low quality, repetitive trash.
If you thought that was shite, I'd love to see what you think is mediocre.

To be fair I expected the wildlings to win, so the Nights watch thwarting them I didn't expect.

The whole battle was pretty exciting not to mention some amazing set pieces like the scyth on the wall and the giants firing their arrows.

He had about 6 minutes on screen with Gilly, I didn't realise the episode was only 12 mins long.

You weren't paying enough attention. Did you hate the battle of Blackwater too?

This season has been fantastic. I didn't realise it was repetative - it's been 2 series since we had an episode like that.

How is it laughable? What was exciting?

The giants were cool to watch. But there was no suspense at all. The first thirty minutes or so with John and Samwell talking and the Samwell talking with the maester. Did that advance the plot even a little bit?

The remaining thirty minutes had nothing of note either. Like I said, stopping the giant was the only cool part.

Well I have no idea how someone could expect that. Even if you did, like John said, this was just a battle (another annoying thing. So all the loss of life was just pointless since there are thousands of more to come?)

And now you know I wasn't paying enough attention. If it makes you happy believe that. This wasn't comparable to Blackwater at all. The one was exciting. The way tyrion had planned that attack with all those ships burning was amazing.

This season has not been fantastic. Compare it to season 1, 2 and 3. It has been full of fillers. Not saying the season has been horrible. It's been good and bad at times. The episode itself was terrible from what I would like to see from a game of thrones episode.

So that's what you have to say? I could have a lot more to say now you have provided us with more than "it was shite"

What happened in this episode that none of expected? Not every episode in this fecking programme needs a shock. Ygritte dying was a little bit shocking, but as we have now had the shocks of Ned Stark, the Red Wedding etc, not much more is really going to shock us as much.

What happened that was exciting to see? Perhaps you don't realise how much that whole episode would have cost. There was a ridiculous amount of effort put into it: The Giants and Mammoths, the "scythe", the non-stop fighting, it was pretty much Blackwater but with more fighting and more interesting mini-events in it, now how are you not pointing that one out as a disappointing episode 9?

Half of the episode was focused on that obese unfunny Samwel and his cringe worthy cliched "I promise you I wont leave" dialogues. Didn't he see her for a grand total of 3 times during that episode, the longest being about a 2 minute scene. Exaggeration here is pathetic

The battle was confusing to follow itself. In most of the scenes brothers of the nights watch were dying but in the end, they are victorious? Can't argue with it being confusing, their outfits were similar.

This season has been the worst, but still had some good episodes. This particular one was low quality, repetitive trash.Look forward to seeing your posts next season then fella

It was the first ten minutes. It built to Ygritte dying as they spoke about their feelings of their respective halves, plus Sam + Gilly must have a key part to play later on as he's the one who has killed a white-walker and is quite knowledgable, plus he's becoming more fearless. Most battle scenes were quite fun to watch and there were smatterings of decent dialogue like Sam and Pyp, plus the scene of Grenn giving his speech, and also Thorne giving his. If you think the last 30 mins had nothing of note or interest or excitement then your loss.

I liked the episode but imdb voters are morons.
I know, i was trying at irony.

Well I have no idea how someone could expect that. Even if you did, like John said, this was just a battle (another annoying thing. So all the loss of life was just pointless since there are thousands of more to come?) Yeah what was the point killing all the wildlings, they should have either run the other way or just allowed themselves to be killed. Great point.

And now you know I wasn't paying enough attention. If it makes you happy believe that. This wasn't comparable to Blackwater at all. The one was exciting. The way tyrion had planned that attack with all those ships burning was amazing. I really couldn't care less if you fell asleep in your bowl of soup watching it but I really don't see what you found confusing, hence my resulting opinion that you must not have paid attention. We can compare Blackwater considering they were in the same format, written by the same people, directed by the same person...Blackwater was better but the episode was brilliant. Blackwater also had 20 minutes of not a lot happening other than Brynn feeling up some whore and almost fighting with the hound.

This season has not been fantastic. Compare it to season 1, 2 and 3. It has been full of fillers. Not saying the season has been horrible. It's been good and bad at times. The episode itself was terrible from what I would like to see from a game of thrones episode. This season has been the best yet for me and contained a lot less filler than certainly season 2 and 3. I'm baffled as i'm sure most others are that you can call this episode "Shite" and "terrible". Again, I'd really like to see what you class as mediocre if you deem last nights episode so far below you're lofty expectations

@Red Shorts

It's not about "Shock" value. But something that keeps us thinking about "what will happen next". Before this episode and after this episode, has anything about in our minds changed? Blackwater was different because we really didn't know who would win and even if one of the armies did win it would have very impactful results.

The giants were portrayed nicely. I said before that they were the only cool bit. I don't get impressed by just a high budget though. Them stopping the giant in the gate and repeating their vows - that's what I like to see. Emotion and passion.

And another difference was how difficult it was to follow. It was like watching scenes of random people fight! Blackwater was more turn based.

As for Gilly and Samwell, of course it's an exaggeration. It's just a way of expression. However, Samwell WAS on for like 20 minutes or so. And even three minutes of those cringe worthy "Look at me, it will be alright. You promise? I promise" Is enough to putt of a viewer.

Lastly, how is it that the brothers of the nights watch were dying in all of the battles but SUDDENLY only one of the wildlings were left?

@Duffy , Clearly you care a lot about my opinion. Your posts show that. If you think it was that good of an episode, then good for you. I've never before this watched a GoT episode and say it was shite. I've always complained about certain parts they could have done better but this episode was utter crap.

Not to mention these people were sacrificing their lives to protect the kingdom of the lannisters.

I'm sorry theres been a misunderstanding, I didn't realize "I couldn't care less if you fell asleep in your soup" meant "I really care about your opinion":lol::lol:

Yep I do feel it's good for me, I enjoyed it - looked forward to it all week and it delivered for me, as it seems did most other people. Like I said though, please can you PM me a list of things that you find mediocre cause I'd love to see them. ;)

So much flair and anger at someone not liking a fantasy t.v show!

And no I don't want to waste my time PM'ing you "Mediocre" episodes to prove that a lot of people found this episode terrible.

I always find it funny when someone posts on an internet forum, can't handle being challenged on what they say and respond with "why do you care so much?"

It's just that special kind of pathetic.

Anger  oh yeah I'm fuming I've spilt my glass of wine all over me and it's brought back bad memories of the red wedding and i'm here sobbing and screaming uncontrollably about how I'll have my revenge on Sheamus or whatever he's called from redcafe for getiing me this irate!

Awww, go on, please once this shite season is over next week I need something new to watch. :D

Edit: I did take the bit about having flair as a compliment thought, so thanks! Woooo!

You'd rather have me post and post until someone has the same opinion as mine?

From your passionate posts and over-use of those smilies, it's quite evident you have been disturbed and/or offended at me (and others with me) thinking this episode was crap. Before you choke on your keyboard or something, I'll let you fume in peace.

Ok, even the green smilies can't do how much I'm laughing justice. I'm gonna need councelling or something after this discussion with Sheamus from RedCafe.

Oh Jesus, just drop it. Let's make this easier with "no-one cares". Better?
Well said Shorts, it's not life or death. Speaking of which do we reckon Tyrion's fate will be decided next week or they will drag it out?

Did I really? What do you want to happen. For me to "see the light" and accept that this episode was amazing and yesterday what I witnessed was just a rerun of friends?

I just answered that exact question, and my answer was no.

But you can just stop responding to someone, instead of saying things like this that make you seem like a dick.

Well put.

Just looking back at what crappy said on the last page and he made a point that the Sam/Gilly storyline could have been done away with which is true. I know it's staying true to the book etc. but I think Sam would have had much more of a motive during the actual battle if he was fighting for vengeance, rather than just fighting to keep a promise - we know how far promises stretch in Westeros

I thought that was a class episode! Some people have some high standards...

Interested to see the 'making of' for the fight scenes and CGI in that episode. I'm a big blood and guts fan so an entire episode long battle is right up my street.

FWIW the TV critics generally seem to be giving the episode very good reviews, though they do point out a few flaws too.

Of course the TV critics have been giving this season excellent reviews generally, so if you think this season has been sub par then you're unlikely to agree with them anyway.

TBH even a poor episode of GOT is better than most TV you're likely to see, some of the criticism makes it sound like it has sunk to the depths of dross like The Walking Dead or even the awfulness that was Dexter.

Just to point out, I was always comparing it with the other episodes of GOT and not other telivision

Thought that battle was better to watch than Blackwater imo.

It was great to be able to focus on one location and one story as opposed to switching between characters. Didn't really like the scenes between Sam & Gilly and thought the moment between Ginger and Jon was a bit cringeworthy. Snow was fantastic this episode and really enjoyed how the Nights Watch defended themselves, albeit only for one night. Was pleasantly surprised Jon didn't die.

It didn't have the shock moment of previous episode 9s but I thought it was a very good watch.

Think it's something that's faultless most episodes, the CGI looks fantastic. Especially the 2 major battles, last night and Blackwater (When the Blackwater was set on fire sending Stanis' boats sky-high) looked phenomenal.

Not bad for an episode where nothing much happens with the plot. Shows the standards of the show when some people criticize an episode like that.

Great battle scenes

That was exceptional. And so unpredictable now.

It crossed my mind that the ginger bird would be dying, but with the way this show is I was always kind of 'or is Jon Snow gonna die?', 'will they both die?' or 'will neither of them die?'

For a moment when that big bald bastard god a hold of Jon and rammed him face first into the anvil I thought "For feck sake not again!"

In other news next weeks episode is 66 minutes long so plenty of time to fit in some major scenes.

Brilliant. Hopefully Sky simulcast it like they did with the first episode.

Wait people are calling that episode dull?

I thought it was great, the giants and mammoths looked good and it was full of action. The past 2 weeks of GoT have been some of the best TV iv seen in ages, this season as been brilliant so far.
