Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Jamie: Tywin is not going to risk Jaime, that much is certain. Jaime would fight for Tyrion but I don't think Tyrion will put him in that position. Jaime is the only family member Tyrion cares for. So I think that rules out Jaime as a combatant.

Bronn: Would he fight for Tyrion? Probably, but he doesn't have any great loyalty to Tyrion which has been mentioned on a few occasions. Hard to know with Bronn.

The Mountain: Seems like he'll be Tywin's guy but in the first season when Tyrion requested Jaime to be his champion, it wasn't allowed because Jaime wasn't present. Will that rule apply again? Where is The Mountain anyway? I think the last time he was seen was in season one.

Oberyn: He wants The Mountain dead. Enough reason for him to be Tyrion's champion to have a crack at Clegane, if Tywin chooses him.

Tyrion: That would be interesting.

I'm guessing it'll be The Mountain and Oberyn.

What an episode that was. The last 20 minutes or so was some of the best so far imo.

I see it going two ways. Either Bronn vs Ser Meryn Trant. Or Oberyn vs The Mountain. I think the first is most likely. Few questions needs to be answered though. Ser Meryn is the Lord Commander of the King's-guard isn't he? I think Tywin is meant to be pick someone from the King's-guard as the trial is for the death of the former King. Bronn is Tyrion's go to man, so that match-up makes sense. Can The Mountain be called upon when he's not at King's Landing (AFAIK)?. Can Oberyn fight for Tyrion after being a judge in his trial? He probably can. I don't know; if Tyrion was meant to come out of this trial dead, it would have already happened. Therefore, whoever fights against Tyrion's champion will most likely be defeated and killed, so I don't think it'll be a major character. Ser Meryn seems most likely. But seriously, Tyrion should send a raven to Brienne asap.

Jaime is the Lord Commander.

Jaime is the Lord Commander.

Opens up the possibility of Bronn vs Jaime. Can't see Jaime fighting for either side, though. Don't know how I forgot Jaime was LC

Edit - Rules out of the possibility of Jaime fighting for Tyrion though, as he's in effect fighting against (the death of) Joffrey who he's sworn to protect.

Great episode indeed. I found Dinklage's speech a bit OTT to be honest but seems like I'm the only one. He's still probably the best actor on the show, along with Alfie Allen (another brilliant performance by him in this episode. Especially the bath scene.) and obviously Charles Dance.
That crazy Frodo guy is way too OTT for me, takes me right out of those scenes, otherwise the overracting in the show suits the soap formula.

One never said anything spoilery, two there's worse crap further up than what I said and three you have no idea who I'm talking about.

P.s: It's Mandon Moore vs Ned Stark.
Why hint at stuff though? I don't want to know anything about the next episode until I watch it. And I didn't know there was worse crap until you said it. Thankfully I don't know which posts you mean.

Can all you book readers stay away from this thread please?

Let us mere mortals be with our speculation. No point in acting all smug having read the books. Besides, when you read the books, you would've been equally 'deluded' as the rest of us TV show folks are.

You'd definitely expect Bronn to be Tyrions first choice and you'd also expect Jamie to want to fight for Tyrion (even if his brother wouldn't put him in danger).

I don't really see Bronn vs Jamie unless Jamie is forced to fight for Tywin/Cersie.

A couple of intriguing match ups to my mind are :-

The Mountain vs Oberyn - As you've said if Tywin picks The Mountain (as expected) then Oberyn would love to have a crack at him. The caveat to this is you'd think that Tywin would be smarter than that and one step ahead here.

Jamie vs Loras - The whole Cersei thing could be settled here. Isn't Loras supposed to be quite tasty? The caveat to this being that I doubt the Tyrells would be happy for Loras to involve himself.

I think I'd go with option 1 being the most likely in terms of story. Tywin doesn't really want to lose either of his sons and I think he's been out thought on this one.

I wasn't actually hinting at anything though was I? Just watching the show you're made aware there's going to be a trial by combat. Badassery is clearly going to follow, whether I point it out or not, I can't see how that spoils anything.

Where else are we to discuss the show? The show deviates hugely from the book in parts as well.

You're narrowing down who the candidates could be though by saying one of them is one of your favourite characters. Discuss it in the book thread.

How do you know? I could like anyone from the show. Explain how I've actually narrowed it down for you and what have you actually learnt from what I said? That it's a character in the show? SHIT SPOILER ALERT.

Pretty simple stuff if you have read the books just talk about the show in the book thread. We are talking about it there all the time and you don't have to watch everything you say so closely.

The books thread is for discussing the show as well @Fuzzlightyear.

All I literally said was I was excited for the next episode and that I've read the books, I'm not quite sure how I spoilt anything.

You saying it's one of your favourites makes me think it's gonna be either Jaime, Bronn or Oberyn rather than more minor characters like Loras or Ser Meryn Trant. I could be wrong of course but I doubt it.

Nope, I'm not being lambasted for something I actually haven't done. Panties get twisted far too easily here.

Look, I'm one of the people least arsed about this sort of stuff in here and certainly one of the ones most annoyed with having to read 15 pages of people arguing about it but what you posted could definitely be treated as a spoiler. For all we know, Tyrions request could be refused.

The word book on here is enough to make people go ape shit on you and from now on they know that you have read the books and everything you will say on here people will assume are spoilers, believe me I have been in the same situation.

Wow. If you're the average type of poster in this thread, I'm done.

It's not personal, I just think book readers and non book readers should stay in their separate threads.

This in fact is the best solution because sometimes book readers will say something they don't even realize is a spoiler. I tried to tell him that but it seems that was too late. I had been in the same position a year or two ago with a remark I never would have thought could be seen as a spoiler. I still think a lot of people in this thread here are super paranoid but why cause unnecessary trouble when we talk about the show in the book thread as well without running the risk of accidentally spoiling anything.

Which was exactly what I said in one of my posts earlier :(

He sent fake spoilers to Eboue but regardless still a dick move. Permabanned him.
