Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

It was just so badly executed. Yara's speech about rescuing Theon was one of the big scenes of last season's finale. She would've had to have been sailing for fecking ages to get there. Here is a map to demonstrate how far she would've had to have travelled to get to the dreadfort

Added to that was how comical it all was, they take out a dozen men, yet high tail it because of a few dogs and an armorless Ramsey? Speaking of which, that was just embarassing, it was like the scene 2 weeks ago with the turncoats at crasters keep, with the guy drinking from a skull. They are portraying sheer comic book villians now.
I think the reason she fled was not the dogs, but Theon biting her despite her trying to save him. She did not find it worthy to sacrifice effort or blood for someone who doesn't even want to go back, which was confirmed when she said "my brother is dead".

Again, it was a pointless plot. Theon was worthless to them anyway, he couldn't reproduce, he proved incapable of leading any iron men. She sails half way round the world yet flees because he bites her? He might be mentally fecked, but it's still her brother. It was just a wasted plot.

Theon/Reek is still alive so why is it a wasted plot? It showed that House Greyjoy still valued and loved him and it showed that he is either completely broken or is still acting and biding his time and needs to be close to Ramsay if he is going to go through with a plan. Alternatively, it's just further enhancing Ramsay as a villain in the show at a time when Villains are either dying or becoming soft.

It's obvious that it's building towards something so it's not "pointless" at all.

Yet they left him there? Scrambled or not, he's still being kept in a dog cage, how can she justify that to herself after travelling weeks if not months? I don't buy it man sorry. I just think the Yara raid aspect was totally pointless, but it was a progression for reek.

:wenger:

I fail to see how it can be classed as a pointless plot until we see what pans out in the future and how that story arc affected it.

It's like saying the Bran being pushed out of a window plot was pointless if he was going to survive. We now know that it had to happen to cripple him and bring those people to his side and we can see now how important that is going to be.

yara tried to save him, proving he was still loved or at least valued by House Grayjoy (having a Grayjoy as a prisoner/pet is humiliating) and as a result Reek has now either proven himself to be very loyal to Ramsay or proven that he will go to any length to prove he is worthy to Ramsay and Ramsay is absolutely delighted that his pet is showing such love and loyalty. His guard might start to slip or Reek might indeed prove to be loyal which could impact the story in some way later on.

So how can it be a "pointless plot"?

All the plot did was cement Theon as now being Reek. I can't see Yara sailing half the world again against a better secured dreadfort.

Wow  Peter Dinklage just put another Golden Globe in his pocket.

Too many of these comments are tinged with obvious book reading knowledge.

If that's referring to me, rest assured that I have never even read the blurb of any of the books and before speaking to anyone IRL about GOT I first ask them if they have read the books, know anybody who has read the books or googled for spoilers and if the answer is yes I tell them to shut up straight away. I have zero knowledge about anything that is or will happen and all I am doing is speculating on what could happen. I'm wrong 99% of the time anyway

I never knew Ser Mormont was spying on the Targaryans for the Lannisters. Was it ever mentioned before?
It was. In the small council meetings in season 1. Jorah was banished from Westeros for slave trading but was offered a passage home if he would spy and eventually be involved in the plot to kill Dani. Instead he turned on the guy who tried to offer her poisoned wine.

Eboue gonna eboue.

Good episode, great ending. Oh and every Stannis scene should involve mostly Ser Davos doing the talking, it's more interesting that way. Dany is still so boring.

"I hope you can run fast" or something about running fast.

I didn't really get what happened there, he was feeding the key to the dog or what? And how did they escape?
He opened the cages the dogs were locked in. Dunno how they escaped. Maybe they could run fast.

Doesn't someone have to volunteer to be Tyrion's fighter rather than him choosing too? I'm pretty sure that's what happened with Bronn anyway.

So she just bails and runs for her life? After all that she disowned her brother. Thats weird.
Because she saw what a husk of a man he had become.

Seriously though, feck this thread, you're all moaning cnuts. Don't know what you expect to happen in each episode to stop it from being 'boring.' Tedious posters.

Yeah, I get it now. But I still believe there's more to that story.

I actually loved this episode.

I expected 53 minutes of daenerys making judgments and sighing heavily. D- episode.

If that's in reference to my post calling Yara "Asha", that's because I googled "Theon Greyjoy sister" and Asha is what popped up. I wanted something more descriptive than writing "Theon's dyke sister". After someone pointed out the confusion, I did some research and apparently Yara was the name they came up with specifically for the tv show. My apologies, but I can assure you that I've never read the books.

Not sure on the details of how trials by combat work, but my prediction is that if Tywin chooses Gregor Clegane to fight, then Oberyn Martell will volunteer and be able to exact his revenge.

I think Jaime will volunteer and then Tywin will pick someone weak as he won't want both of his sons to die. Although you never know with Tywin.

I think it's all set up for Jamie to protect his brother. Jamie clearly loves him and feels it is very wrong that Tyrion is being set up as the guilty party here and I think he'll fight in his honour.

I don't think he has enough time to train that left hand up of his. Plus this isn't the type of show where those sorts of fairytales occur. Any thoughts on the two fighters? I would have definitely said the hound would fight for Cersei if he was still around

Hasn't he been training for the last few months? As has been said already, there is no way Tywin would choose someone to kill both his sons. It's a brilliant trick by Tyrion, showing his great strategic mind once again as it will allow him to walk out of there a free man with no conditions dictated by Tywin.

Yeah, I suppose it's possible particularly when you take it in Lannister lineage context. I would still be surprised considering just last episode he was getting beat up by Bronn.

That is if Tyrion can choose who would fight for him. In any case, isn't Jaime part of the king's guard? So that makes him a part of the ruling govt. Not sure he can switch sides to fight for a defendant

I think Tyrion will choose Bronn and Tywin will have Jaime fight for him and which would again give some more meaning to all those sword fighting scenes between Bronn and Jaime (you know, the tutorials -with the left hand and all :P)

Can someone fight for himself in a trial by combat? That means if you (or if you have a friend willing to volunteer) are the biggest badass in Westeros, you have carte blanche to do as you please. The logic of which seems quite flawed.

Would Tywin really risk Jaime's life by putting him up against Bronn? I don't think he would.

The mountain vs the guy in yellow (forgot his name) would be fun.

You have a point there. I thought with all the lines about honor of being in the kings guard and all, Jaime might be involved in a fight. But then yeah I think he wants to save Tyrion (and himself obviously) so he may not get involved.

I don't know what Tywin is capable of TBH.

Well we know for certain that Tywin is determined to see Jaime settle down and have kids to continue the blood line so there's no way he'll come into any real danger. Neither Tyrion nor Tywin would wish him any harm.

Oberyn.

I think Jaime is more likely to fight for Tyrion than against him. Although he is hard to predict.

The guy in yellow? Oberyn or something?

I think he says to Tyrion in one of the episodes that the mountain raped his sister and killed her but why would he fight for Tyrion? Surely he's intelligent enough to not get involved in such a combat when he can have his revenge some other way.

Not to mention, he's a judge too :P So again, not sure if he can fight for a defendant

Edit:

Not to move away from this interesting who fights whom topic, but can someone explain what happened between Ser Davos and the guy in the tub with all the naked ladies?

Maybe Bronn then? Surely they can't just bring in someone random so there's only really a few people it could be.

Yes. I would think Bronn would be the guy to fight for Tyrion. Who he'll fight against is what I think is for all of us to guess.
But then knowing GRRM, Tywin may as well decide against this whole trial by combat and say he's (Tyrion's) guilty and banish him to the night's watch.

Oberyn is the best new addition to the series. I can't wait until he faces up to The Mountain, but until then, i'm just enjoying his appearances on the show in general. His facial expressions & behaviour during the trial were quite funny (and very well done), not to mention his question to Shae. Peter Dinklage was excellent in this episode - he & Jack Gleeson are the finest actors of the whole show. Charles Dance is excellent, too.

I know it is just a matter of opinion (this is in response to Dany's scene with the man who had his goat killed), but why is everyone so eager for the show to just get to the point? Let's just enjoy the ride, surely. To a certain extent I agree, we don't want 'filler' episodes, but I do think that scene was totally useless - it showed she has a chink in her chain, & ruling over so many people won't be as much of a cakewalk as she thinks it is (and has been, so far). She's learning that with every action comes a good & bad consequence, whereas previously, she could do no wrong. I think it was important. People on this forum were crying out for her to have a bit of a hurdle to climb anyway (for a very long time), perhaps this is the start of that hurdle? Maybe i'm reading too much into this, though. Just my thoughts.

I assume Bronn will fight for Tyrion, but I doubt Tywin will risk his own son, Jamie, in that trial. Perhaps i'm wrong though, as the night's watch plan seems to be going down the drain, which could affect whether Jamie goes to Casterley Rock after all - or am I wrong? Does he go anyway, regardless of the outcome?

Oberyn.
