Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

It's getting very repetitive now, and I think people are expecting a wedding-style event to happen in every episode. You get a huuge reveal from Lysa and Littlefinger, nice little cameos from the crowd favourites such as the Hound and Oberyn, and a rare exciting moment from the North in the form of a battle. Some people are incredibly hard to please.

The tedious repetitions and conversations could probably fill two episode by itself.

Also do we think Syrio Forel is really dead?

I wondered when they filmed that scene and didn't show him dying, something that they haven't exactly shy'd away from with any other character whether he actually died. The dialogue in this scene had The Hound's mocking tone questioning whether he was the "Greatest Swordsman who ever lived" but I wonder whether the dialogue was actually more direct to the audience and wanted you to think "Did the greatest swordsman that ever lived really die at the hand's of Merryn fecking Trant"? Did "the greatest swordsman the world has ever seen" really not have a sword to hand?"

There's the scene where he supposedly dies. It's worth noting that while he doesn't have a sword to hand, the four men he just cleaned up all had swords and were disarmed...

Se Meryn Trant has been seen a few times this season (when planning the guards placement for Joffreys' wedding and at Joffreys' wedding).

I know he's not dead, but is it not impossible that he escaped? He simply said "look death in the eye and say 'not today'" that implies that his plan was to not die, not to kill them all. He did however have to hold them off for a bit while Arya got away safely.

We had 2 spectacular deaths, some great scenes with The Hound and Arrya as well as Littlefinger and Lysa all crammed into 50 mins of TV

It wasnt a filler or dull at all

I really enjoyed this weeks episode, especially as pretty much all the characters were featured

Next time I have to delete posts due to spoiler violations I'm going to thread ban people. Spoiler any future speculation and no book talk, no book hints, no crap attempts to speculate pretending you don't know what happened in the books if you do.

Wait were my posts against policy?

I didn't realise you weren't allowed to speculate if you've never even picked up any of the books?

Read the spoiler policy.

Apologies, first time I have seen it. Is there any chance my post could be undeleted and spoliered instead as it's a story arc I'm interested in?

These people obviously didn't watched first season, otherwise there would be no complaints at all.

So far season four is most progressive and Joffrey's death opened so much new doors for the show, it can only go in the favor.

If you find the non-mental episodes of this series 'boring' then I wonder what on earth you think of basically every other TV series ever made.

Game of Thrones follows a great format. The seasons start off full of epic moments and some shocking stuff to get people talking about it. Then it lets the action simmer a little, setting up for the last few episodes where it really turns up the heat and keeps you hooked for the next seasons. Really a winning formula.

We haven't seen Stannis for ages, probably a good thing for the time being as his story was dragging badly.

People on this site saying that the latest episode (5th) was boring

I thought it was a really nice episode with some major progress/updates in the story. Heck even the Bran part of it was interesting!!

The only 'sad part' of the story I thought was Dany's decision to stay and rule - that means boring episodes of self righteous queen. Hopefully they'll add some interesting negative/scheming characters around her to make it somewhat less boring (or ignore her like they had done with Lysa all these seasons)

I want to see that story again after Tywin talking about the Iron Bank of Braavos.

Davos wrote to them for a loan a few episodes ago, I want to see what the deal is with them. They must be a force if Tywin is concerned about them.

It's far from boring, but I think that it's fair to say that it's not up to the standard of the first two, which I think most people on here are getting at. Expecting complete drama in every episode is silly, but I think the general standard has dropped a little.

I loved every second of the first season, just to clarify.

Again, I don't know why you're saying that it was not up to the standard of the first two (you mean episodes, I hope). Granted Joffrey's death was a shocker but I find it equally interesting to know that Lysa and LF had something to do with Jon Aryn's (spell?) death which set the whole "Game of Thrones" in motion. So in effect we now, in season 4 know (or have pointers to) something that happened before the point where the show started.

It's not always about someone killing some major character IMO. All these little things add up and that's what makes GoT (or any other show) interesting to watch.

I never said it was, you're just making assumptions that people that say the standard has dropped a bit are individuals that only want to see people in the show die. That's not the case at all. Some of the acting these past few episodes have been underwhelming for me(Littlefinger and khaleesi to name two) by the shows high standards and even some of the cinematic's have been below what I expect from this show. I'm still enjoying the show massively though, it's building up to something special, as usual.

Two episodes since his last appearance.

Must be because I watch each episode twice that it feels much longer.

Also I do agree with the people saying the last few episodes have dropped a little in standard. There have still been some good moments but the focus has largely been on character development so it feels slower. Also the reduced role of Tyrion has made it suffer a bit for me, he's the best character on the show.

I'm guessing they're concentrating on pushing stories forward to achieve an epic end to the season in the last few episodes. That seems to be how they do things.

Still not reading a thing in this thread to avoid any spoilers but just wanted to say I've just watched "Blackwater" (S2ep9) and it was friggin unreal!

Yep, most will disagree but Blackwater is still the best episode for me. Best hour of tele I've ever seen.

I agree that it's the best, but it has that huge advantage that it could focus on only one story arc (and easily the best one as well). No other episode could do that, so there were always downtimes in all the other episodes with a few pointless moments or annoying characters. Blackwater was allowed to be flawless. Thank god they decided to spend a full episode on that battle, brilliant decision by the writers/producers.
