Nani wasnt good enough 13 months back
I'll have faith in his ability till our coaching staff does

Of course he was good enough. He'd already proven he could be very useful to us by then. Nani had a bad patch after a promising and productive start to his career here then managed to get it back on track. Obertan's not shown a tenth of that promise so far, but as you say, the scouts and coaches know better than I do. I just think that for some reason - possibly due to Nani's cockyness and price tag - people were keen to see the worst in him and forget about his obvious ability. With Obertan the opposite seems to be the case.

Until we get more evidence i'm labelling this as bullshit. As of now the Daily Mail is still the only media source running with this story.

Not even Obertan or his agent could be stupid enough to hand in a transfer request immediately after the transfer window shuts. He is a project for our coaching staff and I don't see them giving up on him so soon. He's still got time on his side to improve all aspects of his game.

Very unlikely this is true. The Mail have a thing for painting United in a poor light, most recently they were the ones who ran the "Fergie decides Bebe not good enough to make the Reserves" story a few months back. Once again, they painted it as insider information when in fact it was blatantly false, as Sir Alex made clear a few days later when he said Bebe was still getting his fitness levels up and was never scheduled to compete so soon.

is this a joke, the transfer window is already closed, he can't move now even if he wants....

I think he should have gone out on loan. With Park and Valencia both back soon enough then Obertan will find it hard to get a game and I think he could really find his feet on loan to a club like Wigan.

Wow, harsh

Yes but sadly it's true. If this prove to be the case and he did hand in q transfer request for those reasons it smacks of an incredible lack of determination to succeed and self belief.

If me or you were given a chance at United, there would be no handing in of transfer requests I'll tell you that for free. I'd try to improve or wait until I'm told I'm not good enough. Realistically after this why would a top team take a chance on him again? So he can turn around and say I don't think I'm good enough?

I like Obertan and I mean/meant no disrespect but that is a very negative trai to have especially as a footballer.

Obertan is a strange player indeed. On paper he is one of the most promising wingers around. He's got pace, he's got technique, he can play in numerous roles etc. Maturity wise he is like a 15 yr old player. He crosses the ball when he shouldnt do that, he sticks to the ball when he should pass it etc. He makes an 18 yr old Ronaldo look like a seasoned winger.

I think that we should either loan him or sell him with a buy back minimum clause. We've got too many young wingers at the moment (Cleverley, Bebe, Velzen) + Nani, Valencia and Park are still at their prime and Giggs will remain for another year.

Why would anyone bother making up a story about Obertan putting in a transfer request on a day full of genuine huge news?

Maybe they had an extra quarter-inch of column space. What, you expect logic?

Hope it's not true because he has bags of talent.

Agreed, I like Obertan and find him an exciting prospect. From the sound of this he needs a reality check and a good kick up the arse from SAF and the coaching staff.

Maybe a loan spell will help with his confidence.

It's a shame we went out of the Carling Cup so early this year, as are fringe players frive on these chances. At the same rate though, that 4-0 smashing against the hammers apparently had a huge dent on his confidence.

I have faith, and I'm sure SAF does too.

That's if you believe the rumours. To my mind SAf has shown nothing but faith in a player that had a history of back problems and was given a chance at Utd.

As for the ammers defeat I'm sure it dented the confidence of more than just Obertan! However Evans has looked better, Hernandez hasn't been affected either so Obetan can gain confidence from better second half against Soton

I m not sure how I should be feeling about his so called transfer request. He has not really shown the potential, like Hernandez has, to be in the first team any time soon. But he is young and has the potential to do good and become better. But if he leaves, I will not be worried either.

Well Nani was very impressive in his first season. He scored some cracking goals and his back flip was even better. I don't know what the hell Obertan was doing when he was celebrating his first goal.

That was all based on the tweet from Daniel Taylor of the Guardian. He was their "inside source" - despite the fact that with him being able to be followed by anyone makes him everyone's "inside source" should they chose to believe the shite he comes out with.

I actually think he may have what it takes to be a very good player.

Seems to me that his mentality and confidence is the biggest problem. He's also far better on the right than on the left and with Valencia and Nani ahead of him his chances will be limited unless he goes upfront (something I dont think would be a good idea until his confidence improves).

I hope he sticks it out here.

I don't believe the rumours, and where have I said SAF hasn't shown faith in him? He blatantly has.

It's well known Obertan has poor confidence.

Remember, Anderson wanted to leave not so long ago. Ditto Rooney.

If Fergie wants him to stay and thinks there's something there then he'll get him in for a meeting and Obertan will walk out feeling ten feet tall (all of that is premised on the request actually happening).

He has it all in his locker and can play an position up the field. SAF can mend his confidence issues.

Does he though? He hasn't even looked particularly good for the reserves after an encouraging start. He rarely has any conviction in his play and his ball striking and crossing is very poor for an attacking player.

It's each to his own on these kind of things, and whilst you obviously see more reserves games than I, I still reserve my judgement on him.

Not to mention Obertan's strange comments about how he felt as though he had been forgotten about, after spending a couple of weeks out injured.

He doesn't come across as the most confident of blokes. He's a definite talent but might never have the mentality for United.

It's a real shame too, if his mentality 'clicks', he could be awesome.

Some of his performances for the reserves have been so poor. His pace is impressive, as is his conditioning but his actual ball striking is atrocious bar one superb goal against Liverpool. I hear the Nani argument re patience which is obviously relevant but I dont think he has 5% of Nani belief and confidence and Im beginning he never well. I can see a loan move which if it doesnt bring him on Id say we'll cut our losses. Maybe a bit harsh but not everyone has the mental strength to make it here.

Yeah, definitely. I hope you're right, but he really needs to start delivering with Valencia, Cleverley and Welbeck all coming into the mix. Personally I would have sent him out on loan and retained Cleverley.

Big caf ad on the front page to learn French online. Not after this Obertan, NOT AFTER THIS.
