Well there you go.

He is searching to find some end product to his promising build up play. Obertan has all the raw ingredients to be a complete attacking winger and thats the main thing we have yet to see him produce. He must work on his goal threat and ensure his final ball leads to assists for his team mates. Lets see how he develops his game to meet those expectations.

hopefully he can make it. he seem a very direct but also got the skilks and has a spark which we seem to be missing at moment

Something worth mentioning was his stamina he showed against Besiktas. He seemed to easily manage playing 90min at a frantic pace. But he didn't let up and looked sharp all through the match. There's some work needed to be done on his final ball and shooting, but the coaches should be able to sort that out. When you have all that talent you will improve on those things if you train hard on it.

I've had it with this kid. We've been talking him up for weeks now, and what do we get? A few cameos, nothing more. He's not as good as Ronaldo, his head isn't as kidney-shaped as Silvestre, he'll never be as modest as Ole, and his uncle will never pass a decent healthcare bill. Another big fat fecking disappointment.

Booo!

is that supposed to be funny

well he's one of those players with a 'picture' of the game rather then always getting tunnel vision which is good. He's promising

Obertan is the antinani. All the skill in the world and more often than not makes the right decision. The execution isn't always perfect but that will come with more match sharpness and as his confidence grows.

Very sharp and fit for someone who has been out with an injury for so long. I think the final ball and shooting will come on loads once he's settled in, I think this because he can pass the ball very well and that little run in the last game which ended with a good shot towards the bottom corner demonstrates he can do what we are all hoping he will be able to!

Of all the wingers we've bought in recent years, he is the one who has impressed me most. Can't believe we've only paid 3 odd million for him. Absolute bargain.

Gabriel Obertan in line to take over the mantle of midfield maestro from Paul Scholes
Gabriel Obertan in line to take over the mantle of midfield maestro from Paul Scholes - MirrorFootball.co.uk

Ok, Obertan has a lot of potential, but he s definitely not a central-midfielder...... this piece gives and indication about the level of sport journalism.

Obertan just said that he used to admire Scholes and the journalist quickly branded him as the new Scholes...

True but at the same time who'd have tagged Giggs as a midfielder more often then not? With experience he might be good there. It's nice to have someone running from central midfield. We've also Anderson ofcourse but there's something usually a miss with his shooting. Can't think what it is :)

The talk of new scholes though is silly.

He's not better than Valencia!
Valencia's too experienced to be referred to as one of the "new lads". He's a new player - like Owen - one with 40 Ecuador caps already. The new "lads" would be the twins, Gibson, Welbeck, Macheda, De Laet, etc.

He's a bit of a liability in defense. I first noticed it in his first games for the reserves, but just assumed it was a fitness problem, but he seems quite lazy and doesn't follow the overlapping defender which could easily have resulted in a goal in the first half.

It's odd, because he's willing to chase the ball when he's lost it, he just seems quite lost when he has to help out in defense, both positionally and in terms of marking someone.

The latter is easily fixable though.

He's very reluctant to take on a man.
you can't have seen his earlier games then....

know what you mean about him being a defensive liability - didn't pick up bale much and didn't help out neville who was struggling with lennon at times in the first half

hopefully he can develop a bit of defensive awareness and work a bit harder

Yeah he has quality in his game in the areas that we're lacking. Should still improve a lot. Can't wait for his first Oberhead kick..

Not really seeing it. Does a lot of nearly good things.

To me, his start has been less impressive than, say, Nani's a couple of years ago. I think he has a good attitude though.

still needs to get stuck in a bit more into challenges, also miss times or backs out of aerial challenges all the time.

Still gonna be class though

I think I've seen all his apperances in the first team since he made his debut except the match against Besiktas. I should specify though, what I mean is he seems extremely reluctant to use his momentum and take on the full-back when he is set up in positions where a "traditional" winger (Valencia is good at this) would try to pass the full-back and get to the byline and deliver the cross. In most of these situations (from what I've seen) he slows down the play and looks / waits for passing alternatives.

He seems more inclined to dribble in tighter situations when it's the less obvious choice, but I think with the pace and skill he's got he should try and take on the full-back more often in these situations. Not too sure about his crossing from what little I've seen of it though.

This.

I just don't the get the hype here.He is a talented player but people are talking as if he is Messi or Ronaldo when actually he hasn't done anything special so far.

Again I am not saying he is not good,I am just saying the hype is completely unnecessary.

I still believe Nani is way more talented, but will he ever be able to use his talent is a big dilema.

I am impressed with Obi so far. Unless Nani minds being on the bench for most of the season, I don't see him getting many more first team games.

No they're not. Don't be daft.
