I personally think it looks better on Nani...

Obertan's running style is very Henry-esque...

More like Forrest Gump-esque. Has looked good in the past few cameo appearances. I don't think he's as quick as some people seemed to but he has good feet and seems to 'bamboozle' defenders, albeit in the latter stages of a game against a tiring defence. Encouraging signs though.

Quality cameo from him, direct, creative, good weight of pass and vision and didn't manage to run it out of play (although he tried!). I think he's best eased in as an impact player at present when the game is stretched, however he's looking very promising.

I liked the way him and Evra were linking as well, all good signs for us, but not for Nani.

Yea I noticed that with Evra, was actually looking for it as soon as he came on after his interview where he said Evra was encouraging him, can only be good for him to be playing in front of somebody who he knows and trusts.

Nervous performance in his previous game.

Full of confidence in this game. He understood the urgency of our situation and showed pace and simplicity in attack. More promising signs from Obertan and he could have a very bright future here. Might be involved against Chelsea.

thought he done really well tonight. nice composure and link up.

cant see him starting against chelsea, though ive no doubt he will make an appearance.

obertan could be the player that we all hoped he would be this season, has a gem been unearthed????

He did very well tonight, much better than Saturday.

Wow people will make videos about anything these days won't they

That bit at 1:37 is quite possibly the only time I've ever seen a step-over actually work.

A strange statement - perhaps you've not seen ronaldo (brazil) destroy defences with his full speed step-overs. Plus Mancini showed the art when he bamboozled a Lyon defender with 5-6 step-overs to score a great goal a few seasons back in the CL.

Plus it seems you imply that step-overs are useless (as they don't work) yet all the best & skilled players in the world use it - which says it all as to its value!

BTW Obertan is looking very promising. These french youngsters are highly-skilled!

As good as useless, yes. Flashy and pointless bollox that beats a man approximately once every 100 times they're attempted. That Mancini example you mention sticks in the mind because it's so unbelievably rare to see something like that actually work.

Fat Ronaldo seemed to use them to good effect, mind you but that's because it was a relatively new tactic at the time. You almost never see a top modern defender being fooled like that. I mean, how hard is it to just watch the ball and ignore the prancing feet?

Ronaldo made fecking millions of step-overs in his time at United and I can't remember him ever beating a man as a direct result.

Hardly useless when utilised by a skilled player who knows how to use deception. Ronaldo had the art but often used it to put defences on the backfoot & to showboat - so you can't use his example.

Plus cr7 in his debut alone used step-overs to beat his man -plus it was revolutionary thing in 2003 in the PL and led to alot of players adopting it.

Obertan showed excellent use of it whereas Nani seems to do it largely without a result.

Its all about how you use the stepover. If you drop your shoulder when you do it, its brilliant. If you just do 20 stepovers in a row, its a bit pointless.

Obertan looks like he drops his shoulder when he does his stepovers, which is a good sign.

That is cringeworthy. He played 10 minutes and was not directly involved in any noteworthy incidents. I was laughing at the red scousers posting videos of Aquilanis short debut, but this is just as bad.

No noteworthy incidents? That was cracking wing play. You saw him beating his man, running at defenders, playing simple yet incisive or progressive balls... virtually everything he did ended in something productive. I can only think of that Evra pass that he sold short where something good didn't come down his side

For a player who's played so little football for so long, and just coming into the United team, that was a really impressive cameo. Much improved on the weekend when, while mildly inept, again things did happen around him. And that's what you want from your wingers

Spot on post. There is reason to be positive and to discuss this. It's also noteworthy Obertan used a good balance of both feet in the highlight. Again encouraging signs.

Not sure, Martin Tyler said Vidic is likely to be able to make it for Sunday but who knows how much he really knows.

But that front six is exactly what I would want particularly in Midfield. We're not strong enough to take down Chelsea with a classic 442.

Yeah, going to Stamford Bridge and playing 442 does not seem like the best idea right now.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Obertan, Berbatov and Rooney playing together in a 443 (not that it's likely to happen this weekend). I think it could really work as they all have terrific awareness and technical ability.

Also, Obertan stretches defences with his speed and choice of runs, something which will give Berba and Rooney that little bit more space to operate in, something that HAS been missed since the days of Ronaldo's double marking.
