 at everyone going OTT over him based on 15 minutes of not doing a lot other than miss two sitters

Granted Nani and Valencia both did the square root of nothing either but still if Obertan had did what he did today for Liverpool for example and some scouser started a thread based on I know for a fact what he'd get told by the majority of the caf
He's a winger not a striker. The fact that he got into those positions is a very good sign.

Shades of Evra starting for us. Looked overwhelmed. Will get better.

Had a bit of a mare, if we're being honest. Had Rooney not scored and if Blackburns goal had stood, a lot of the people saying he did well would be livid. Showed glimpses of potential, but we've been saying the same thing about Nani for ages. It's probably just nerves, so I'm still excited about him.

He looks very raw but I'm excited about him.

Showed promise with his directness when attacking space, dribbling and he found himself in good positions.

This, exactly.

People need to remember that this is a technical player, not a get to the line workhorse. While he's finding his feet, he may look a bit shaky, but this lad is gonna come good.

I was actually happy with his debut, because he showed that he has the tools to give us what we need on the flanks.

He appears to have a good appreciation of where his teammates are around him. I hope he is going to be a player United fans will enjoy watching, he seems to effortlessly glide across the pitch when he gets into full flow.

Weird thread...He looked incredibly nervous to start with...Lost possession quite a few times, missed a sitter, then gave the ball to someone else at the earliest opportunity. I don't think he actually achieved anything at all in any of the attempts he made to actually do something!

I still think he'll be good mind, but that wasn't really a great debut

I think he'll cause a lot of problems for defenders, he seems quite strong as well for his slight frame.

Although he hasn't got a willy.

Decent debut. He did look a bit raw at times, especially with his finishing. But the talent is there to be moulded. We can make him into an effective attacking player by developing the weaker areas of his game.

Overall an encouraging introduction to the Premier League.

The touch of Zidane, the passing of Xavi, the dribbling abilty of Maradona and the scoring instincts of Pele all for 3 mil!

How does Wenger like them apples?!

To be fair, Maradona's passing was better than the other players you mentioned.

But either this lad was very good or he was shit. . . such contrasting opinions on here.

Good in the buildup. Automatic self destruct trigger when given a chance to score.

Brwned is spot on in here, nothing much more to say really.

If he'd scored his chance the muppets would be in overdrive, as it is he looked a bit nervey but iv seen enough from him to he exited for the future and he showed signs today of what he is capable of. At the end of the day we can't draw conclusions from a cameo such as that.

Blanc's comments when we signed him;

"He has the potential, but he must overcome psychological and mental challenges so he can express his true value."

Seems to reflect his performance today...

text from a scouser

'yis cnuts, that new peanut head has already beaten more people than babel'

That shouldn't be worrying. He's not exactly a striker - and it could've been down to nerves.

That's what I said a few minutes back. If a striker makes his debut and comes on for 15 minutes, and misses two good chances one would be tempted to be worried. But he's a winger, so I'm interested in the attributes that make a good winger and he showed some of them.

And yes, he seemed to be REALLY nervous.

You caftards have gotten me all worried about Octobertan now with all this psychological nonsense. I'm started to look at him the way I look at Joe Cole (no not my 'come get me' look).

The announcer in my feed was jizzing over him and with good reason. Always was moving into space and helped create the 2nd goal. Looks way better than Nani or Valencia, frankly.

Bellion's pace, Ronaldo's physique, Tweety's kidney-shaped head

Ronaldo's physique? No way.

Ronaldo is incredibly strong... Obertan is still too gangly. However I m sure that in the coming months we ll see him adding a bit of weight. Let's not forget he s still 20.

I thought he's played better for the reserves. Looked very nervous, played 5 yard passes well but other than that it's nothing to write home about. If he took that first chance that came his way after being put through then it might have been a different story.

I'll put it down to nerves, but lets not go crazy it wasn't exactly Rooney's debut now was it?

I thought it was quite funny.

Poor cnut did three hilariously bad bits of play almost on top of each other. Most players would only do something as embarrasing - such as dribbling the ball out of play, shanking an unbelievably weak shot at the keeper and missing a sitter - once every few games. Poor auld Gabby did all the above in 5 minutes

I still think he's got something about him though and he did a lot of good things in the last 10 minutes of the game. He's a better player than we saw today.

I'm excited by this lad. Yes he missed one or two sitters today but christ, the lad's making his debut and in front of 76,000 people. A few more games, more confidence and he'll start to bury them chances as I thought he got himself into some good positions today. He's very direct with the ball and I thought he had some great link-up play with Evra.

Too early to tell for sure, but hopefully the lad will be fantastic for us.

It was an okay debut.

He showed some good link up play with Evra and Anderson and missed a easy chance. I'd put that down to nerves as he looked like "Timmy's first day at school" the moment he came on.

At least his movement led to him getting these chances, his build up play with Evra on the left was very good. Can't read too much into this debut.
