so we replaced Ronaldo and Tevez with a injured Obertan, hit or miss Owen, and a promising winger Valencia.........Absolutely brilliant.

Yes, we are obviously the footballing equivalent of the British Army, and hopelessly undermanned and underequipped.

Tbh the guy never proved himself in France because he's just starting his career and there is no way he could get bored of the level played inFrance. It pains me to see such young kids leave France when they haven't properly played football here (yes even if United signs him).
Like you said I think he'll develop as a player but will it be enough for him to have any kinda future ? It's a really tough thing to say.

I would have agreed with you if only his career was going at the right direction with Bordeoux. Unfortunately its evident that it wasn't the case and that is reflected by what was said by Blanc (he need to strengthen his mentality bs) and the fact that he was loaned.

The EPL is a tougher league and players are allowed less time to develop then in France. Stating that it fair to say that it developed many French players in the past. Players like Henry, Viera, Silvestre, Anelka and Clichy all made a name in England. In certain cases (im referring to Henry, Viera and Mickey) it ended up saving their career.

As stated the EPL is a tougher league and Obertan will have less chance to develop than if he stayed in France. On the other hand he will be training with some of the best players of the world and coached by a manager with a CV which the French League can only dream of having.

It's just that so many average players leave France without proving themselves here in an inferior level to where they next go.
If Obertan is among the very rare young players who go abroad and in a few seasons establish themselves, I'll be more than happy for the club.

A bit of PL debut jitters? He got in good positions and could have had a goal. Looks promising if he improves his finishing.

He looks very raw but I'm excited about him.

Showed promise with his directness when attacking space, dribbling and he found himself in good positions.

Makes space well for himself. Impressive debut.

Just nerves.
Good to see him getting in those positions though. Nani didn't.

Jesus christ you can't even make a comparison like that since Obertan came on when United were already 1-0 up and Blackburn started to attack after that which opened up space for our attackers that wasn't there earlier in the match when Blackburn were defending with 10 men.

Thought he outshone both Nani and Valencia with his 15 minute cameo. Very exciting player, and definitely gives us soemthing different.

I am most impressed with his willingness to give up the ball to a teammate, something Nani must learn to do. And his movement off the ball seemed to eb quite intelligent as well.

im not going to overhype obertan, looks like a decent prospect, but lets not go crazy about him just yet.

Very impressive debut. For some reason I'm excited about him. He seems to find space very well.

Good debut. Was no worse than our other wingers today which stands him in good stead for future team selections.

Looked to have a good understanding with Evra and Rooney on that right wing.

Needless to say, I'm very excited about him.

Well, it can only get better for him from here! First involvement was to gallop the ball out of play under little pressure down the touch line, and later went on to miss two glorious chances!

He's got one hell of a bizarre run. I love him

eagles had a better league debut .. bambi legs scored too

sell obertan

I think he can make it. He is more direct than Nani, more unpredictable than Valencia, and make better runs than any of our other wingers. He also seems to combine well with Rooney down the flank.

all the talk when we signed him that he was jam packed with talent but struggled psychologically- hopefully his nerves were only due to a debut in front of 75000 and not just because he can't hack the big time.

Before anyone starts flaming the point of this post was the talk about his pyschological strength when we signed him, not any kind of criticism of the player.

2 horrible misses but otherwise a good performance.

He s good going forward but not so defensively (as Valencia for eg)

Left wing.

I thought he was very impressive. Never seemed hurried and his intelligence in finding space was something I really liked. Valencia and Nani seem to have one way of playing. He may give us something different.

Not a knee-jerk, but he looks like making better decision than Nani. Knows where to run, when to release the ball, when to dribble, etc.

It's, however, not much between them regarding the annoying level of the head shapes.

Nice start from him. For a new kid he seemed to have a good sense of what his teammates were doing. Shame he didn't get that goal - would have been a perfect start,

i thought he looked a little nervous but he moved like he's been with the team for a very long time. i think we're really going to like this guy.

Probably the worst debut I've ever seen, including Ray Parlour's, which is saying something.

.. Well he's definitely got more intelligence than Nani, that much is pretty evident.. whether he's a better player is a different question.

 at everyone going OTT over him based on 15 minutes of not doing a lot other than miss two sitters

Granted Nani and Valencia both did the square root of nothing either but still if Obertan had did what he did today for Liverpool for example and some scouser started a thread based on I know for a fact what he'd get told by the majority of the caf

Agreed. He linked up well with team mates and was eager to get in behind the defence - something Valencia and Nani would be better players if they did more often.

His misses were bad but I knew his finishing could use a lot of work before he signed for us, so I fully expected it.

How can it be anything other than knee jerk when you're posting directly after his first ever 20 minutes of Premier League football?!

The fact he can say that, after watching Nani after 2 seasons, sums up Nani's ability to frustrate and excite in equal measure.

I'd call that observations, with some hint of speculation as to which qualities he'll show in the future. I haven't oberhyped him up and damned Nani, have I?

I think that just shows how desperate we are for exciting and effective wing play again
