Gabriel Jesus | Arsenal

But you're saying this like Jesus has done nothing but loiter around for 90 minutes, tapping in the odd lucky deflection. He's a nineteen-year-old kid who's essentially taken the biggest gamble of his life to come here. He's travelled thousands of miles to live in a new country, to play in a new league, in a new team with a set-up that he's never been part of before up to this point, and so far he's scored 3 goals and assisted 2 others in 4 appearances. I appreciate you've given him credit by saying he'll eventually turn into a great player but he's deserving of the praise he's received thus far. It's not luck.

He's put himself about a lot, looks to fit into Guardiola's pressing system a lot better than other options we've tried this season, and during the game today he turned round to the rest of the team and told everyone to step up ten yards and put a bit more effort in. His all-round game obviously needs development but we don't even know what he struggles with yet because he's been here two minutes. So far what he's done is potentially revitalise a season that was looking as though it was losing momentum as quickly as the last campaign did. Again I will say that's not down to luck.

Good post and agreed. I think people are downplaying his contribution because he's a City player. Today was the first full 90 minutes I've seen him play and apart from his goals, he was the best player on the pitch. His output so far is absolutely fantastic for a young kid coming straight from Brazil.

I didn't say that. His movement overall is very good. His two goals today however were very routine. I don't think anyone would disagree with that. The 2nd goal was literally a spilled save from the keeper.

Martial had a flying start and I was waxing lyrical about him. Can't blame City for doing the same.

There's no real reason to get carried away though, let's just see what he does from now till end of the season

Yeh but his movement in heading the ball causing the spill was pretty good. Arguably he should have done better with the header, but then again he's very alert to make sure he gets the rebound.

Ffs he looks very effective and not the type of player I thought he was (Robinho).

The first goal too. He keeps moving and anticipating the move. This is a great strait of good forward.

It's hard for defenders to pick out him since there is a ball carrier who can also doing damage for the defenders to attend too.

No-one is denying Rashford is a talent, but it's not a fair comparison. Jesus is playing as the Brazil No. 9 at ages 19 for goodness sake, and looks every bit the part in that role. He's kept Aguero - perhaps the only really world class player in the league for the past few seasons - on the bench.

"he's no better than Rashford" (as you imply) is just being bitter. You're better than that.
Not surprised. He has been way below his best this year and i think hes on the way out

"Hayzoose!"

Just call him 'Jesus' in English ffs.

But that's not how you actually pronounce it. Ffs, we should at least try to get it right.

And it "Jayzoose," by the way. It's the Portuguese pronunciation, not the Spanish.

Looks good so far. Thought it would take him more time to get adapted as it usually does with Brazilians but fair play to the lad. Still think it's mad to drop Aguero but Pep is gonna Pep. Unfortunately just as City looked to be in a bad place in prime position to be overtaken he has given them a boost.

He has a very punchable face.
For some reason, he looks alike to Smalling to me, and I don't want to punch Smalling's face :wenger:

If anything, Brazillian is well known for their adaptability. Their problem is keeping their focus when they reach the top. Many of them had early peak and then faded when normally it's the peak age of other players.

I am not surprised at him hitting the ground running. I'm amazed at how good he is though (movement). I was in this thread when he made debut vs Tottenham saying how he was very lively (movement). It's a great asset for forward since they can still affect game when they have the ball at the feet.

Which is also wrong, when you look at it technically :D the "original" name is pronounced like German. I have no idea however how i could put that with letters that an Englishman could recognize it...."Iaesos"

I liked how he played off the defender's shoulder rather droping deep all the time. And he was very mobile and alert in the box. He reminds me a little of Lineker based on this match, which is a surprise, and Lineker scored a lot of goals. Aguero might be worried now.

The media will love him whatever he does, he is a copywriters dream.

Angel of the North, revelation , Jesus gets cross (red card), crucified, betrayed, the list is endless. By the end of his time Aguero will be Judas if they can spin it that way.

Hahahaha!

More likely it means he's standing where he should be. Nothing unusually praiseworthy about getting tap ins for just standing around where you should be.

You need to watch the ending part of City's segment in MOTD 2 where they show Jesus's movement for both the goals, you couldn't be more wrong.

Really good start to life in the prem, will be interested to see how it goes for him.

It's a strange argument. I mean his second goal was him following up from his own header which he probably should have scored, but still. I swear some don't watch games on here and just make stuff up. His movement all game was top notch.

City don't seem to let their players get poached.

Have they ever had a player that has been strongly linked with one of the top teams though? Aguero is the one I can think of other than that I really can't think of any names. Toure was signed from Barca so really was never going to go to a top club. I don't think any of the top teams ever had a need for the likes of Silva in their prime either. Boateng went to Bayern but I don't think City were to bothered in fairness. Maybe I'm missing some players or something but I honestly can't think of many they've had where a top club would want them. At the moment they have De Bruyne and maybe this Gabriel Jesus who top clubs will go after which will be the big test for them keeping players.

I put it down to watching but not seeing. I watch a lot of rugby as my son is a pro and the 'analysis' of some supporters is laughable. Mind you the pundits for both don't help as much as they should.
When I get to watch a game with my son he is able to offer another level of seeing again and so I guess we are all guilty of watching but not seeing to a greater or lesser degree.

Probably true but I also think there's a reluctance from some on here to praise a rival player, at times.

It was pretty clear from watching yesterday's game that Jesus was the best player on the pitch and looks a brilliant talent. If we had of signed him and he had the same output after 4 games, you can guarantee some of the same posters diminishing his return because of 'tap ins', would be praising his positional sense and movement.

I'm sure you're right. The boy certainly looks like a major talent.

Manly Rugby League or Poofy Rugby Union?

So far he's been the exact opposite of what I expected. Still think tougher times will come for him though, he is in the honeymoon period like Martial was with us. He's scored a few tap ins but he's clearly a well rounded player already.

Better than Aguero? don't think so. If Naughton wasn't a complete pillock he would have defended that cross and it would have been a poor 1-1 draw.

Let's see how it goes once the hysteria of being the new guy wears in a bit.

zhyay-zoose I'm reliably informed.

The goals were fairly routine, although the first one - he took the ball really early and therefore managed to score. Someone with less of a poacher's instinct - Silva for example - would probably have waited for the ball to drop and then the chance would have been lost.

His play style has surprised me. He is like a more technically gifted Javier Hernandez.

Agreed. He's hardly had the same impact as Martial or Rashford yet.

Two bog standard goals and neat play. Nothing that's made me think wow like when Martial came on and netted against Liverpool.

Gabriel. Brazilian.
Bought for 27 million.
If the guy, had half a brain,
he'd leave those knobheads and feck off to Spain.
