Gabriel Jesus | Arsenal

Thought the defending/goalkeeping from Swansea was pretty calamitous for both goals, but he's clearly a very smart player, understands movement, timing and positioning better than players his age do.

You weren't comparing playing styles. You were asking whether City fans were praising Rashford.

Martial like Jesus was a youngster signed for big money that made an immediate impact.

I actually was if you read my other posts.

Money has nothing to do with it.

Yeah, dont you know that he is in the top 50 expensive transfers? Or top 100, but still

Pretty irrelevant like most transfer fees these days. Bang average clubs are shelling out £20m / £30m on players quite regularly, these days.

Good to see he making a positive start to his city career. His NT has been excellent as well 5 goals and 3 assist in 6 matches.

Yeah that's what's impressed me about him. His movement and anticipation have been very good so far. He won't get the goals given to him on a plate every week though so the challenges will get tougher for him.

Seems odd how they got him quite cheap if Barcelona and Madrid were looking at him as well.

He was being treated in the same esteem as Neymar, who it would appear was sold for well over £50m once all his agents were paid.

I think City brought him after the olympics. If it was a few months later he would of went for possibly double that as he wasn't a starter on the national team yet.

Rashford burst on the scene as a youth product and produced moments of magic in big games (vs City at City for example). Jesus has scored 3 tap ins and cost big money. Certainly a talent but the hype declaring him a super talent just yet is overboard.

Sure, he has dropped into the Brazil national side as their number 9 at aged 19 like all mediocre players do.

?!?!?@??$?$$?

For one of the most expensive players ever, he isnt doing too bad

Hilarious bitterness, absolutely hilarious.

Actually I am one of the most expensive players ever. At £8.50 from Grove United to Romily, I am the one of the world's most expensive players, coming in at number 12,923,657th most expensive.

What a nob-end of a comment.

Yeah no where did I say he wasn't a talent or isn't a good player but some are talking as if he is the second coming of, well Jesus. Let's just give it a season before regarding him as an elite shall we.

 Calm down, it was a past joke

It's one thing to score the third goal in a 4-0 win, but being decisive for your teams victory (irregardless of how the goals were made) is impressive this quick. For his sake I hope he stays injury free and joins Madrid within the next couple of seasons

Why did the commentator continue to say it was his debut? It's not even his home debut

Rashford comes through academy, does similar to Jesus = rubbish, over the top praise

Jesus costs £27m ish and does no better than Rashford - awesome, guy will be world class

City fans in a nutshell (some of)

Good player, but was pretty fortunate with both goals today. He just happened to be where the ball bounced.
You could argue that's down to good positioning rather than luck.

No-one is denying Rashford is a talent, but it's not a fair comparison. Jesus is playing as the Brazil No. 9 at ages 19 for goodness sake, and looks every bit the part in that role. He's kept Aguero - perhaps the only really world class player in the league for the past few seasons - on the bench.

"he's no better than Rashford" (as you imply) is just being bitter. You're better than that.

Can't believe people were doubting Jesus before the game. He looked the part when he came on against Spurs and seems to be carrying that on.

Rashford is actually more comparable to Iheanacho. Both coming through academy and scoring some important goals. Some glimpses of quality, but still a lot of work in front of them. Martial and Sane are also similar in a way, both playing wide, and arguably even more talented. Martial seems to have more goals in him, but Sane looks more complete player.

Gabriel Jesus is something different. The fact he already led his team to the title, and leads the line for Brasil should tell something. In addition to natural talent, he has some exceptional smarts, guile and tenacity to his game. Although playing completely different positions, he reminds me of Modric when he came to Spurs. Looking deceptively light, but very strong on the ball, industrious, quick and intelligent.

He is also the first player in a while that reminds me of Romario. Maybe not as superb on the ball, but with more workrate and intensity to his game.

Reminds me of Tevez so much, tenacious, speed, quick feet, harrying defenders, movement in the box. Not the classic Brazilian show-pony party piece that you normally expect but that's probably a good thing because Robinho had that in his locker and was an abomination at city. You don't need a 'settling in' period when you've got those attributes so end of the road for Aguero me thinks.

It certain cases you would be right, but today he was literally standing where he was supposed to be and the ball bounced his direction.
If a striker is literally standing where he's supposed to be then that's down to good positioning.

Was just before the Olympics, can remember everyone (united fans) laughing and taking the piss when he missed an absolute sitter in the first group game

More likely it means he's standing where he should be. Nothing unusually praiseworthy about getting tap ins for just standing around where you should be.

Ruud made a career out of that, didn't he?

Ruud actually manufactured a lot of his own goals through his swashbuckling style. Jesus is a good player who will do the same in time - today's goals however were pretty routine. If you want a good goal today, look at Mkhitaryan's or Mata's.

Looks a top talent, always a risk with South Americans imo though. Never know what you're gonna get down the line.

It means he used his physicality to position himself to score many of his goals.
But you're saying this like Jesus has done nothing but loiter around for 90 minutes, tapping in the odd lucky deflection. He's a nineteen-year-old kid who's essentially taken the biggest gamble of his life to come here. He's travelled thousands of miles to live in a new country, to play in a new league, in a new team with a set-up that he's never been part of before up to this point, and so far he's scored 3 goals and assisted 2 others in 4 appearances. I appreciate you've given him credit by saying he'll eventually turn into a great player but he's deserving of the praise he's received thus far. It's not luck.

He's put himself about a lot, looks to fit into Guardiola's pressing system a lot better than other options we've tried this season, and during the game today he turned round to the rest of the team and told everyone to step up ten yards and put a bit more effort in. His all-round game obviously needs development but we don't even know what he struggles with yet because he's been here two minutes. So far what he's done is potentially revitalise a season that was looking as though it was losing momentum as quickly as the last campaign did. Again I will say that's not down to luck.

Seems like City found a very good player. Has given them a boost too, sadly.
