Gaa 2013

feck, that goal would have done it for Dublin. Good save, but he should have scored.

edit - and again! FFS

Feckin hell, that's an impressive two game run by the Dubs. In fairness to them, the county board have been working towards that since I was a lad.

Probably, but I do remember them giving anyone who could hold a stick a Dublin trial, and I even got a few, and I was a very poor hurler. The did all they could to encourage interest. They were overly encouraging to anyone who played. I was a much better footballer and GAA football player than hurler but I got way more praise for playing hurling.

Totally deserved win for Dublin. Glad Galway showed some fight but that first half killed us. Maybe it's for the best, they have more games to get themselves right.

I hope TBP is enjoying the sunshine

arrahh I did shure, just after rubbing a half a gallon of calamine lotion onto the top of my head and my arms there after the unmerciful burning I got above on the hill!

Fair play to Dublin, they're a classy team that play the ball and that's the way the game is supposed to be played. That's 5 games on the trot for them now beating both of last years All-Ireland finalists in the process, they've arrived on the big stage that's for sure and that's great for hurling. They'll take some beating this year.

I'm not ruling Galway out yet though, they turned it on big time in the 2nd half to make for a cracking 35 mins of hurling but it was to little to late and to be fair to Dublin they responded brilliantly with a point every time Galway looked like they were going to make a comeback. I'm hoping today will be the kick up the hole Galway badly needed and they'll bounce back with a gutsier performance the next day.

The qualifiers are going to be interesting now though, Clare, Galway, Kilkenny and the losers of Limerick and Cork all in the draw...sweet mother of devine jaysus!

Aye, will be a good summer yet. I thought Dublin were great as you say, but I was really impressed with how they stemmed the tide of the Galway revival. There was one or two bits of play when they harried them back half the length of the pitch. I'd love them to do it, they have been making steady progress for years now. Someone somewhere deserves huge credit.

Hmmm. So Dublin playing with a swagger and fans getting excited. Kerry stumbling along. That sounds ominously familiar. Kerry to murder us in the semis.

We conceded 17 points to the worst Cork team I've seen in a long long while.

That's the standard isn't is moses. Kerry rarely look overly impressive anywhere but croker. They just know how to flick that switch when it matters and that's why they are the kings.

Couple of very good games of hurling this weekend. Great to watch. Dubs could do a leinster double this weekend. Kerry looked very good for me. They tired in the heat but the Gooch is doing very well out the field and his finish for the goal was class. Tyrone have a lot to do to get back to the top of their game but still you dont want to peak too soon. I would say Derry could be a dark horse too on the back of an impressive forward display. Dont write cork off yet either. A few tough games and they will be back up to speed for me.

Any chance in the world of a Dublin All-Ireland Double or are the hurlers too far away?

They made a huge step taking Leinster but I think it's still between Cork and Kilkenny for Liam McCarthy. I think the 4 games before Galway were huge for momentum and it will be interesting to see where they are after the break. I hope they continue the form but my head says put money on the cats. Also remains to be v seen if footballers are the real deal. With no real challenge yet I hope there is no slump.

This weekend probably won't tell us much about the footballers either.

I think on the hurlers (as a big ball uneducated man) the fact they got over the cats in a reply was a big thing this year. I full expected Kilkenny to turn Dublin over on the second outing but they stood up like real men to them and won the battles. I still see Cork as being a distance behind so the pool of potential winners is very small. If Dublin can avoid Kilkenny till the final then they will be in both finals for my money.

I'm a big ball man too but love a good game of hurling. Be great as a dub to be in two finals.

Not to sure what odds they are now but the bookies had Dublin as 2nd favorites to lift Liam behind Kilkenny on Sunday evening and deservedly so too considering what they've done so far. No team will look forward to taking them on this year now and especially in Croke Park.

There's a long way to go yet though in this years Hurling championship. All teams left in it are more than capable of beating one another on their day so there'll be loads of twists and turns yet, it must be the most exciting Hurling championship in years.

Getting back to Dublin and not taking away from the talented hurlers they have but if there was ever an argument for the more games a county has (particularly the so called weaker counties) over the coarse of a championship well then what Dublin has done this year so far is it. The 4/5 week wait for their next game now where they'll come up against a team on a run could be dodgy waters for them.

This weekends Hurling fixtures:

Saturday:
All Ireland Qualifiers Phase 3
Wexford v Clare - 5pm in Thurlas
Kilkenny v Waterford - 7pm in Thurlas

Sunday:
Munster Final
Limerick v Cork - 4pm in the Gaelic Grounds

Wexford won the U21 Leinster final last night.

Post from the local radio stations Facebook after the match.....

South East Radio said:
With all the excitement earlier Liam Spratt lost his false teeth in Wexford Park. If anyone came across them could you plz drop them into the Radio Station.

Pair of absolute crackers in Thurles tonight. Clare beat Wexford by 10 AET but were lucky the final whistle went went it did in normal time, they were on the ropes. Waterford came storming back to draw with Kilkenny but lost it in extra-time despite scoring 2 goals. Some extraordinarily bizarre decisions but they added to it.

If you have a tenner on an accumulator with Dublin, Mayo and Donegal all to win their finals, you'll get €12.50 back! If you go against the three of them, you'd get €18500. Ridiculous.

Expecting to win handily tomorrow tbh, though the Dublin factor will help Meath, but not enough imo.

I fecking had Dublin to win big. Jesus, now I need them to win, they feck it up. How the ref can book anyone for that shemozzle is ridiculous. feck sake, compare that to Meath/Mayo in 1996?

The goalies kicking frees is going to have to be stamped out. Imagine if the leading team got a freekick on their own 21 and decided to let their full forward walk all the way down the field to take it? The ref wouldn't stand for it. Cluxton others strolling up for a kick is wasting so much time.

How many counties have had success in both codes at the same time? Galway, Cork, anyone else?

Define successful? Tipp in 1895 and Cork in 1990 won the All Ireland double.

In terms of provinces, the double has been done 19 times in Leinster: Dublin (12: 1942), Kilkenny (3, 1911), Offaly (2, 1981 [last in province]) and Wexford (2, 1918). Dublin looking likely to win this one.

In Munster, the double has been won 17 times. Cork (14, 2006) and Tipperary (3, 1922).

I don't know if I'll bother with Ulster or Connacht.

Ulster 9 times. Antrim (8, 1946) and Monaghan (1, 1914).

Like Connacht, Ulster have has far fewer finals than Munster & Leinster.

Ulster H (68, 5 winners) F (105, 8)
Leinster H (125, 6) F (125, 11)
Munster H (124, 6) F (125, 6)....Waterford hurlers in 1938 was the last senior county team in Munster to win a provincial title.
Connacht H (27, 3) F ( 113, 5)

Good game today vs Meath. O'Gara was shite(no surprise), Brogan not great, but Mannion and Kilkenny were both unreal. Its good to see us still scoring freely even with Brogan of his game.

It'll be interesting to see who we get in the quarters, but still another round of qualifiers to go before we have an idea.

Limerick haven't won this title since 1996?

There was a statistic a few years back, that every combination of the 5 LMcC Cup teams in Munster had played in finals, over a 15 year period. Anyone else heard that?

Today is one of the big reasons why I wouldn't have Bernard Brogan anywhere near the "all-time greats" list.

His form has been patchy - at best - for a long while now and he's not the player he was in my opinion. Confidence is shot, it seems.

Agreed, I wouldnt have him there either. Hasn't been great in the Championship for a while imo. He's still worth his spot in the team, but we dont rely on him as much as a few years back, which is great.

Cork v Kilkenny & Galway v Clare in the All Ireland quarter finals. Cork player should never have been sent off, but delighted for Limerick.

You sound like all the feckers knocking Ronaldo after a bad game after he's won us the league. Brogan is poor at the moment, but I've been watching Dublin since the 80's and very few players have displayed Brogan's ability to beat teams on his own, which he has done for Dublin quite a bit. Yep he's gone off the boil, but everyone does. He's allowed to chill out now that he is not the only reason we might win a game.

Great scenes down in the Gaelic Grounds, the crowd on the sidelines bursting to get on the pitch with a few minutes to go was some sight. Cork were fierce unlucky to go in at half time a man down and things could have been different now had it not happened. Fair play to Limerick though, they did what they had to do and in some style as well, Moran who has being a great servant to Limerick down through the years coming on at the end and popping one over the bar was a fitting way to end what was a great day for them.

Going to be some crack in my neck of the woods now with Galway going to go head to head with neighbours Clare in a must win game in the coming weeks and with Cork taking on Kilkenny as well, there's going to be another great weekend of Hurling to look forward too. Brilliant Championship so far.

Jaysus, man. Even if Brogan was firing on all cylinders, do you seriously think he'd be named amongst the greatest ever to play the game? I think not. He's a good footballer who has been the second-best forward of his generation (behind Cooper), but that's about it. I'd have Canavan and O'Neill over him, and Oisín McConville was every bit as good as Brogan is in my view. "Best players of all-time" don't go missing for seasons on end, nevermind say games on end.

No, but why mention the greatest ever to play the game? The guy is a great player and deserves to be acknowledged as such. See your new tagline by way of explanation. True, but still an unnecessary slight.

The best players do go missing for games on end by the way.
