As much as this pains me (and believe me it does) Derry were class today. Very very impressive performance and they still look like they could improve. They have to be big favourites against Tyrone or Donegal in Ulster. You really could see this Derry team doing well in the late summer!
Yeah i have to agree with that. They looked good, although what also must be said is how good are Down?
Armagh beat Down well & they gathered a bitta hype from that. I didnt think Armagh were that good even after that Down game, so i wasnt surprised Derry beat them yest. I'm glad they did anyway, not a fan of Armagh & some of the louts from Lurgan, Portadown area that follow them. Anyone see the banner at the back of the left goal from the camera viewpoint? It read something like
"Garvaghy Road Orangemen on Tour.." or some bollox like that.
It was the Garvaghy Road mob that just cant get on with their lives. Trust me, if you're anywhere near that lot give them a wide-berth. The Lurgan / Craigavon element are just as bad too. I lived in Lurgan for about 7-8 years (after my Mum remarried) & those lot are fecked up when pissed up!
Derry seem to have had the upper-hand on us recently, they really get dirty against us & if we get past Donegal - and thats a big if, then we'll need to compose ourselves & not get caught up in a brawl, because thats a very likely situation.
Gettin past Donegal is gonna be tough, i'm not too confident that we will after the Monaghan game. I thought we were cagey at the back & Mickey had to make a couple of subs there to prevent further damage & stupid sendings off - two yellows. I guess the first game of the Championship can be a cagey affair, so i just hope that we can be a lot more effective in our defending & breaking from the back. Our fielding is still shite aswell. Aidan Cassidy is a good fielder but was annonymous for much of that Farney game in the fielding aspects. Hope to see Hughesy back in the middle for the Donegal game, he was great last year & did grand when he came on against Donegal too!
Should be a good game against our Donegal cousins...
