Gaa 2010

holy fecking shit this is shameful stuff.

A Meath player in the square. He then gets the ball and throws it into the net in the 74th minute to cost Louth their first title in 53 years. A fan then ran on and punched the referee. Then several more fans confronted him and almost pushed him to the ground. He was then punched a few more times after which he ran and was chased down the tunnel. One steward was knocked to the ground as the Louth fans chased him. Disgraceful stuff.

With recent developments in GAA getting players banned after viewing television replays a few days later, there's no doubt in my mind that this should be replayed.

Cheating Meath scum.

He didn't exactly cheat though. Granted, he pretty much threw the ball over the line but his momentum would have carried him over in any case. I think any player in that situation would have just tried to force the ball over the line.
It was the umpires that fecked up. Considering they were about 5 yards away and had a clear view it's inexplicable how they didn't rule it out.

As for the attack on the ref: does anyone think the GAA should stop fans coming on to the pitch after big matches now? Personally, I wouldn't be in favour of stopping it altogether, but there shouldn't be any intrusion on to the pitch until all the officials have left the field of play.

anyone that says this game should be replayed is as deluded as feck. Sure Louth shoulda won the game, and sure its a terrible shame that a goal that was given was clearly carried/thrown over the line.

But if we are gonna go down the road if crying for a replay everytime a ref makes a bad mistake then we'll never get the championship finished in the 1 summer. Almost every tight score game will need to be replayed.

The Louth fans and the media who should know better have to accept the result and get on with it. They still have the back door so will get another game anyway. The longer they dwell on this result the harder it will be to focus on the next game.

 Cmon out of that. He even looked guilty doing it!!! Look at his face again.
The ref is an utter twonk. there was technically 4 different offences he could have stopped it for.

On the pitch invasion side of things I agree, its part of the games history and shouldnt be lost due to the idiocy of few locked idiots

Am i right to say the final say is actually with the Meath county board?

According to all the media reports the ball is in Meaths court. I personally cant see them caving into a replay that they'll probably lose given that it would only have been a one point game had the goal not stood and that louths last piont was questionable enough.

.... ah but there's always the ticket sales to consider!

Point 1. If people dont lay of the backs of the referees the number and then the quality of referees is going to dry up. its getting rediculous these days that the amount of criticism the poor fellas are coming in for on telly and in the papers. Not to mention the amount of abuse they get from the stands even if they have a good game!! These paople are amatuers who give up a fair amound of there time for minimal compensation because they love the game.

Point 2. I agree with you on the pitch invasion thing. I was at croke park in 2003 when we won our first all-ireland. Not a thing on Gods green earth was gonna stop me being on the pitch for Peters Speech with my countymen. Its part of a GAA final. Those twats who attacked the refs should be banned and prosecuted. But don't forget that this happens at least once a year at a county ground somewhere in the country and very littel is said about it then.

Sad day for all concerned yesterday, the ref and those who assaulted him let themselves down. I would love to hear what the umpires told the ref but he clearly didn't want to know however I don't think they thought it was a goal as they did not raise the green flag until told to by the ref. Anyway very tough on Louth but thumping the ref isnt the way to help your case, hopefully Meath will offer to replay it.
Just like to send my condolences to Baz whose beloved Westmeath had their flag lowered rather surprisingly by my own county of Derry, hard luck Baz

I have to keep questioning this call for a replay. Are you saying we should have a replay every time a questionable decision effects the result of a game.

I think Meath should offer a replay due to the importance, time left & the fact there were 3 fouls contained in that segment. However, even though Louth people were seething, their treatment of Ref was disgraceful!

ps; The "olde Goat" has just hit half a century today, orangeman's day & all ! Got a lovely present of a framed & autographed jersey of the Monaghan football team!

No but it was a major bollocks this time and for a county like Louth opportunities to win Leinster dont come along too often. Meath however hold all the aces, it is up to them no one can force them

50 STG? ah sure you are only a pup, congratulations

Have to say, my fellow Countyman made an absolute twat of himself with the Meath goal. For feck sake - if the umpires arent raising their flag to call it a goal then thats where the hint lies - it wasnt a fecking legitimate goal!

We cry out for video technology in Soccer & even in the Europa league there's two extra officials - one behind each goal, then we have that debacle on Sunday - 2 umpires & the ref tells them to flag for a goal because he believed it was a goal. What a fecking knobhead he is!

The Umpires must take some responsibility tho aswell, surely they could have been more forceful to the ref to tell him it was a saga of fouls by Meath & a free out to Louth. Yer man just did what he was told. Surely the Umpire was convinced it wasnt a goal - hence him not raising his flag. He should have grown some balls & told the ref "no goal & no flag raising - shove the flag up yer fecking arse.."

As for the replay - thats up to Meath. It'll be remembered for the rest of the Championship that Louth deserved to win & were robbed by a disgraceful decision. The 2010 Leinster Championship is tarnished & will always be remembered that way. Meath are no Champions in anyones eyes & I think the Country has had a little too much injustice with cheating in Sport recently, that Meath will loathed by Gaa fans up & down the Country for the forseeable future!

I say kick Meath out for cheating and Louth out for the behaviour of their fans and give the title to the Dubs.

:D

Dont forget to shoot the ref too :nono:

Louth fans have no class. I remember in the 1995 All-Ireland final - Tyrone vs Dublin, we were robbed of a replay with Peter Canavans point on the last kick of the game. You didnt see the Tyrone fans looking to lynch the ref that day - Paddy Russell.

No - we had respect for the Gaa & we waited til the cnut arrived home in Tipperary where we were waiting for him with his family locked in the basement!

It would seem that Meath wont replay, sad that but under the rules they have the right not to replay it. They will get a bad reception the length and breadth of Ireland for this, the Derry men are even prepared to shout for Tyrone if they and Meath meet, LOL

Meath are digging their grave here. Louth have gained alot of plaudits with their previous two wins in the Championship & its been a bittuva David vs Golliath scenario for them in Leinster. They did well to get to the final but most folk thought that was a step too far. They showed everyone they were worthy to be there & worthy to stand at the end as Champions. The Country feels sorry for them & for Meath - the Country rolls its eyes in disgust!

Whoever Meath play next - the Country will be united in Meath versus 31 Counties. feck them!

I'd love it if Louth get another crack at them somewhere down the line & beat the shit out of them - on the scoreboard of course.... and in the car park aswell

Nice one about Derrymen cheering for Tyrone if we meet Meath +

Meath will march on in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship as Leinster champions but officials admit that their victory is 'tainted' by the controversy surrounding the last minute of the final.

Meath officials also said that more direction should have been provided by Croke Park in the aftermath of the controversy.

The Meath board met last night and a decision was taken not to offer Louth a rematch despite widespread disquiet over the fact that the decisive goal was illegally scored in the dying seconds by Joe Sheridan, who threw the ball over the line.

Among the key factors was the position of the players, who were reluctant to grant a replay

So thats the end of that for Louth then, feel sorry for the wee county. Hold your head in shame Meath

I think its pretty obvious that Meath wont replay the game because they feel they'll get beat again..

Meath players are the one's who wont replay the game - not the County Board, so that makes the Meath team public enemy number one. Hope they are prepared to be hated the length & breadth of the Country because thats the reality...

To be honest they look pathetic and it could affect their future performances like it did the French, here is hoping anyway. I am very annoyed myself at present, Baz still has not congratulated me on last weekend :(

Good to see the old school Ra lads such as Storey out & about confronting the dissidents... its a pity they couldnt be let loose on them for 24 hours with no prosecutions - shoot on sight aswell. Hate those cnuts with a passion!

Dublin for the All Ireland, I must be a jinx, I didn't go today. My brother texted me though, said he never saw so much space on a GAA pitch. Not the teams they were 7 years ago.
