holy fecking shit this is shameful stuff.
A Meath player in the square. He then gets the ball and throws it into the net in the 74th minute to cost Louth their first title in 53 years. A fan then ran on and punched the referee. Then several more fans confronted him and almost pushed him to the ground. He was then punched a few more times after which he ran and was chased down the tunnel. One steward was knocked to the ground as the Louth fans chased him. Disgraceful stuff.
With recent developments in GAA getting players banned after viewing television replays a few days later, there's no doubt in my mind that this should be replayed.
Cheating Meath scum.
He didn't exactly cheat though. Granted, he pretty much threw the ball over the line but his momentum would have carried him over in any case. I think any player in that situation would have just tried to force the ball over the line.
It was the umpires that fecked up. Considering they were about 5 yards away and had a clear view it's inexplicable how they didn't rule it out.
As for the attack on the ref: does anyone think the GAA should stop fans coming on to the pitch after big matches now? Personally, I wouldn't be in favour of stopping it altogether, but there shouldn't be any intrusion on to the pitch until all the officials have left the field of play.
anyone that says this game should be replayed is as deluded as feck. Sure Louth shoulda won the game, and sure its a terrible shame that a goal that was given was clearly carried/thrown over the line.
But if we are gonna go down the road if crying for a replay everytime a ref makes a bad mistake then we'll never get the championship finished in the 1 summer. Almost every tight score game will need to be replayed.
The Louth fans and the media who should know better have to accept the result and get on with it. They still have the back door so will get another game anyway. The longer they dwell on this result the harder it will be to focus on the next game.
Am i right to say the final say is actually with the Meath county board?
Cmon out of that. He even looked guilty doing it!!! Look at his face again.
The ref is an utter twonk. there was technically 4 different offences he could have stopped it for.
On the pitch invasion side of things I agree, its part of the games history and shouldnt be lost due to the idiocy of few locked idiots
Sad day for all concerned yesterday, the ref and those who assaulted him let themselves down. I would love to hear what the umpires told the ref but he clearly didn't want to know however I don't think they thought it was a goal as they did not raise the green flag until told to by the ref. Anyway very tough on Louth but thumping the ref isnt the way to help your case, hopefully Meath will offer to replay it.
Just like to send my condolences to Baz whose beloved Westmeath had their flag lowered rather surprisingly by my own county of Derry, hard luck Baz
I have to keep questioning this call for a replay. Are you saying we should have a replay every time a questionable decision effects the result of a game.
I think Meath should offer a replay due to the importance, time left & the fact there were 3 fouls contained in that segment. However, even though Louth people were seething, their treatment of Ref was disgraceful!
ps; The "olde Goat" has just hit half a century today, orangeman's day & all ! Got a lovely present of a framed & autographed jersey of the Monaghan football team!
I say kick Meath out for cheating and Louth out for the behaviour of their fans and give the title to the Dubs.
No change there then!Meath are no Champions in anyones eyes & I think the Country has had a little too much injustice with cheating in Sport recently, that Meath will loathed by Gaa fans up & down the Country for the forseeable future!
It would seem that Meath wont replay, sad that but under the rules they have the right not to replay it. They will get a bad reception the length and breadth of Ireland for this, the Derry men are even prepared to shout for Tyrone if they and Meath meet, LOL
Meath will march on in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship as Leinster champions but officials admit that their victory is 'tainted' by the controversy surrounding the last minute of the final.
Meath officials also said that more direction should have been provided by Croke Park in the aftermath of the controversy.
The Meath board met last night and a decision was taken not to offer Louth a rematch despite widespread disquiet over the fact that the decisive goal was illegally scored in the dying seconds by Joe Sheridan, who threw the ball over the line.
Among the key factors was the position of the players, who were reluctant to grant a replay
So thats the end of that for Louth then, feel sorry for the wee county. Hold your head in shame Meath
I think its pretty obvious that Meath wont replay the game because they feel they'll get beat again..
Meath players are the one's who wont replay the game - not the County Board, so that makes the Meath team public enemy number one. Hope they are prepared to be hated the length & breadth of the Country because thats the reality...
To be honest they look pathetic and it could affect their future performances like it did the French, here is hoping anyway. I am very annoyed myself at present, Baz still has not congratulated me on last weekend
Sorry man, I havent either - much to my shame...
Congrats big lad & a big high-five to ya....
Best of luck against Kildare too & great stuff on Derry winning the City of Culture lark...
Cheers RHD, more wanted to hear that from Baz the old Westmeath thing and all that. Good luck on Sunday to all concerned and may the best team win. It is great to live in the most cultured place in the land
Fixed.Best of luck to Kildare too
