Gaa 2010

Well.....Thats the way its going.

Dont forget that i'm living in the south for the past 10 years and i dont hink that 1 day has gone by without someone doing a really shitty northern accent to me or calling me a northern fecker. I know that yous are just jelous but it really has become tedious.

Stop speaking to yer Ma on the phone every day then ;)

I see the games have begun already lads, loving it

I still think Coulter and Clarke will take us far! Maybe we will see yous again!

Quite possibly Rams, there's a long way to go though!

Also, it all depends if the Down lads can take the disappointment of defeat, as you's boys really wanted an Ulster title. If you's can handle a good progressive Longford side then it'll give you nice momentum. The qualifiers are exciting - I love them. You get to see some great football from teams that maybe just weren't ready to show previously in their provincial championship!

Best of luck man

Qualifier Draw.... We got Fecking Derry

Antrim/Kildare v Leitrim

Dublin vTipp

Cork v Cavan

Offaly v Waterford

Sligo/Galway v Wexford

Down v Longford

Westmeath v Derry

Fermanagh v Armagh

You never know what mentality that Derry team will have on matchday. They're capable of beating most teams in the Country on their day. It'll take a great effort to beat West Meath tho!

Best of luck to both of ya's!

My first season was 1984, missed 85 and 86 as the folks gave OZ a go, but have been there for most of the good days since, missed the Lenister final the year of the All Ireland, well I gave me ticket to a cousin who was home from Oz ... but Baz is right some of the Dublin - Meath games in the last 25 years have rivalled being a united fan (at the time anyway) - come to think of it those 4 games were almost 20 years ago!

Dublin have been heartbreaking this last 5 years, must be what it's like to be a scouser.

Yeah & we've been gettin the same old tripe that "this is our year" aswell. Nobody's been sayin that this year tho. I think the bubbles burst after 2 whoopins in Croker at the same stage two years in a row!

Dublin's problem for the Meath game was that in the build-up all the fans & Dublin media were calling for a reverting to the normal system of play from previous years, instead of the 12/13 men behind the ball that Gilroy was playin. He decided to do just that & got tore a new asshole for his troubles as Dublin lost alot of solidity due to opposite change of play & formation. They beat us up in Omagh & the beat Kerry in Killarney - so they have a system that can win games. You dont go changing that because the fans say so. Sure what the feck credibility do many of them have when they boo their players off the pitch at half-time against Wexford!

Gilroy should have stuck to his two year plan & proceeded with the new players in his own style - not caving into the hype machine that surrounds the Dublin football team!

What must be said also, is there are far too many teams trying to copy the Tyrone brand but most arent up to it & are looking atrociously negative. I'm sick of us gettin the blame for alot of crap games due to this copying of style. Teams should only play to their strengths - not play to their weaknesses. Your style of play will only prosper if the players are capable & willing to understand it. Tyrone play inter-changing positions like a Rubix-Cube, have being doing so for some time now & its the same throughout all levels in the County - 14 Forwards & 15 Backs!

Stick to your guns thats what I say, although since against Armagh 2003 - we've decommissioned ours :)

Thats it. From now on Im going to listen more to what Baz and the likes have to say cos RHD clearly doesn't know his arse from his elbow.

I went in to the Sligo Galway game yesterday with my wee girl. What an absolute dinger of a game. As a tyrone man at the match I still came home hoarse from all my shouting. Great result for Sligo (my adopted county) and I got to shake hands with Peter Canavan after the game!!

Kerry v Limerick was a great game to watch, sick that Limerick couldn't see it out after coming back from 1-4 or so down. Three good scoring chances when they were drawing, they just don't have the winning mentality unfortunately.
Stroll in the park for Kilkenny, Galway were poor, how many times did they hit the sliothar too long?
Anyway, the biggest fixture of the weekend saw the gallant lillies start the march towards their destiny come September!

Trying to make the fack your countys nick is a flower sound tough/manly wont work. You are the soft lillies after all.

(even an Armagh man cant change that fact)

Whelan criticises Gilroy decision..

Former midfield All Star Ciaran Whelan has said that Pat Gilroy is in danger of losing the confidence of the Dublin dressing room.

Writing in his column in the Evening Herald, Whelan criticised Gilroy's decision to prevent county players from lining-out with their clubs after the Leinster SFC semi-final defeat to Meath and also said that the players needed to have a meeting without the management to discuss how they felt.

"Pat Gilroy's decision to withdraw county players from the recent rounds of local senior club games in Dublin was a serious misjudgement and wrong decision on his behalf," said Whelan

"With players' confidence low, a couple of club games would have given the lads the opportunity to play a game of football without the added pressure or focus that an inter-county game brings.

"Both players and management have a big week ahead. The players now need to sit down without management and have an honest chat with each other."

He added: "For the management, this week is about moving on from the Meath defeat. The management team are in grave danger of losing the confidence of their dressing room and they must instil some positivity in the camp and lift the lads' spirits."

The comments from Whelan, who retired from the inter-county scene after Dublin's heavy defeat in last year's All-Ireland quarter-final to Kerry, come ahead of a crucial All-Ireland SFC qualifier with Tipperary this Saturday at Croke Park, where defeat for the capital men would spell an early end to their season.

I have to agree with "Wheeeeeeeeeeeelo" on this, but can understand Gilroy's position a little too!

They may have been soft in the past & maybe still a little soft, but the Lilliewhites have always played a lovely brand of football & I always enjoy watching them!

So lads, who's bricking it & who's confident of progressing?

I'd say the Derry lads i.e Crerand Legend & PJ are none to confident, due to never knowing what Derry team are gonna turn up. Westmeath will give them a game alright & I can see extra-time in that match!

I see Galway's Michael Meehan's out of the game against Wexford: RTÉ Sport: GAA - Michael Meehan ruled out for Tribesmen thats a big loss to the Tribesmen, but I think they'll just about squeeze past Wexford - possibly another extra-time finish!

Down - Longford is a game i'd like to see actually. Always a big atmosphere in Newry for Down games. Its pretty intense because of their successful teams of the 60's & the 90's, so the faithful want those glorydays back & want it back probto. Longford are loving their football at the moment & are hungry as feck. Down on the otherhand have bigger fish to fry, but will they be up for the game & this backdoor route to the larger lough - thats the question. Paul Barden of Longford is struggling with a groin strain so he might be out Hoganstand.com - GAA Football & Hurling - that'll be a big loss for Longfords chances if he is!

Fancy Down to win but I wouldnt be surprised if Longford took it by 1pt. Newry to have riots if that happens :D

Its about time they had a Dublin Hurling & Football double-header at Crokers. It'll show the fans that turn up at 4pm / 4.15pm :smirk: for the Hurlers, that those lads have more committment than their "illustrious" sponsorship showered Footballers.

It might not be a good thing for the Footballers tho - they might get showed-up & the fans will not only boo them off the pitch - they'll encorporate the Liverpool way - chuck their own shit at them as they depart the pitch at half-time & full-time :D

Both the Footballers & the Hurlers should prevail to the next round or the shit will hit the fan onroute to hitting the player

Fermanagh & Armagh in lovely Enniskillen - thats a nice way to spend the Sunday afternoon, thats if you duct-tape those Armagh nutcase fans & tie the feckers up :) They'll get back in their hoardes to get themselves ready for the Annual 12th of July battles & maybe get some practice in on the way back too!

Fancy Cork to give Cavan a bittuva hammerin. They risk losing even more momentum in their Championship quest & the more knocks you get the harder it is to recover mentally. This game will tell us where Cork are physically & emotionally due to recent disappointments. I'd love another crack at them so I hope they stay in the game until then!

Offaly - Waterford are the type of games I like to watch because you get exposed to some lovely footballers that you havent come across before. Tight one to call tho, given that Waterford beat Clare by 4pts in the Munster Provincial & Offally beat Clare by 3pts in the 1st round of the qualifiers - in what looked a great game 2-18 to 1-18. Could a one score game - my moneys on a goal to separate them!

Kildare - Leitrim. Well, after the Lillies are a little settled down now, following the death & burial of Dermot Earley, they should be well up for this game more so than the good result achieved against Antrim - one that i was delighted to see Liam "Baker" Bradley's smug fecking grin wiped off. Cant stand the cnut  Kildare should win this handy enough, but interestingly enough Mickey Morans made 6 changes (3 in the full-forward line) to the side that got beat by Roscommon in the Connaught Championship Semi's. They lost that game by 5pts, so maybe Mickeys got the hump with some of the players & is hatching a different plan. Best of luck Leitrim - you'll need it lads

Best of luck to Waterford & Cork in the Munster Hurling Final. Should be a good game. Will be interesting to see if Cork can follow up their impressive performances against Tipp & Limerick. Those winning margins were 10pts against Tipp & 13pts against Limerick, so they're in the groove. In Corks case, sometimes it can help with playin the extra game in the Provincial because if you get a good result you can gather great momentum very early, and thats what they did with those two results onroute to the final. I fancy Cork to win this pretty well - by 6pts+.... hope its a good game!

Best of luck to Offaly & Limerick too. Fancy Offaly for this one. They took Galway to a Leinster Semi replay & only lost by 2pts, so they're not a bad side regardless of Galways poor showing against the Cats last weekend. 7pts winning margin didnt do that game justice - Kilkenny were taking it easy on them. Hard bunch of feckers too!

And last of all its the Leinster Championship Final & we're graced with the "Wee County" making their first appearance in the Final since 1960 - feckin great stuff & the very best of luck to them. Meath will be hard opposition & I fancy them to take the title & they could very well win in high numbers. But the Louth players have pride & some quality to back it up, so Meath wont get it all their own way.

Louth's point-scoring Mid-fielder Paddy Keenan will have to be on form for this one & I expect him to. His partnership with Brian White has been solid & they've deserved all the praise thats been bestowed upon them in recent matches against Kildare & Westmeath. Although you can guarantee Meath will be laying down a marker on each of them very soon after throw-in. I hope they get in there first & rattle the feckers!

I'm not a fan of Meath, following physical hammering in previous years to my County - not gonna mention the wars, but they've a well-earned reputation for encouraging opposition players to leave the pitch either on foot or stretcher. Took a temporary liking to them recently tho ;)

Cian Wards a massive player for Meath. He's won the lot with the Meath under-age set-up from what I hear & is held in such high regard in the County as the next big thing. He's the one to watch in this game, excellent footballer. Watch his place kicking also - he's a tremendous striker of the ball!

Anyway, i'm fecked after writing all that, but it was enjoyable at the same time. Best of luck to all the teams & enjoy the feast of Football over the weekend

Not sure about that.

Even when Mick O'Dwyer was in charge and they got to the All Ireland final they were nothing special to watch. They were a hard, dogged team with a sprinkling of good talent like Dermot Earley, Glenn Ryan, and Anthony Rainbow. They were never particularly pretty. But if they'd had even one consistent forward then I think they would have beaten Galway in '98.

But anyway, we were decent enough against Limerick last weekend. The Gooch was excellent again. The midfield is a concern when Galvin isn't playing as he wins a lot of loose ball around the centre. And Tomas O'Se was lucky not to be sent off in the 1st half...it could have been a very different outcome if the ref had done his job properly.

A bit Arsenal-esque I think. Took a lot of passes (mainly fist) to get into a shooting position and this was often shown up against the better teams over Micko's time. McGeeny has got made them a bit tougher over the last couple of years, and the playing style is more direct, although it is still very much a passing style. Still overly reliant on John Doyle though, if he's not playing or doesn't have his shooting boots on - the final against the Dubs last year being a case in point - then, well, then we're fecked!

Decent game last week alright. Thought Limerick might do ya's & maybe should have. Kerry know how to win tho, so fair play. My missus being from Kerry was raging at me because I wanted Limerick to gave ya's a game - she wants Monaghan to win now "apparantly" - we'll see when she's up in Clones next Sunday!

I dont know where you're gettin this "Gooch was excellent as usual.." lark. I dont think he's played well at all. He's on the ground more than the grass - all soft fouls aswell.

Interesting stat I heard during the game last week, was that he'd 15 Championship points & 10 were from free's. Most of those frees were engineered by him & he takes those that are within his distance & if not, Sheehan takes over those duties. In last weeks game he scored 8pts - 1 goal & 5pts. 3 of those scores were free's & all soft!

Seamus Scanlon is playing very poorly & I reckon i've jinxed him when I met him down in Castleisland last month or so. I, after having a few brews from the Championship Play-off Final said "you had a great year last year & you're an unsung hero.." - he's been shit ever since

Good to see O'Se gettin stung with a suspension. He deserved to go but got away with it at the time. I dont like this "trial by tv" shite - but Tyrone players have been stung alot of times in the past & this year also, so there needs to be consistency throughout!

Galvins a massive loss to ya's. He's an excellent footballer & he's not the cnut people think he is. My missus' mate works with him at the school & he's a good lad from what I hear - just has a Rooney moment now & again. He's picked / targetted like feck tho, but he needs to rise above it tho!

I've never met the chap myself but I know people who know him and they all say he's one of the soundest people on the Kerry panel. It's just when he goes out on the pitch he can lose it from time to time. I loved Colm O'Rourke pontificating about fair play on RTE when Galvin was caught fish-hooking the Cork lad. This from a man who was on one the most notoriously dirty teams in the history of the GAA.

I agree that Galvin should walk away from any provocation but it's probably easier said than done when you're playing Cork. And an 8-week suspension was fecking harsh...I remember Ciaran Whelan absolutely hammering Aidan O'Mahony with an elbow a couple of years' ago in Croke Park and nothing was done about it. But feck it, we're in the quarters now and that's all that matters. We want Tyrone in the final if we get there- it's payback time!

We'll even play ya's in Snooker & we'll still kick your arses - a-g-a-i-n

I want Cork somewhere along the line, sick of beating Kerry - a-g-a-i-n :lol:

Would you say Tyrone were team of the decade?

Nah not at all man. I dont really buy into this notion of the team of the decade lark, all we want to do is win Sam over & over again. Its very simple!

Kerry have won more & been in more finals than us in those 10 years & thats some going, but what must also be said, is those 3 All-Irelands we have won we have beaten Kerry along the way in every one of those victory's - twice in the final too.

You's havent beaten us or had to beat us to win your All-Irelands the past decade, thats why Kerry folk are so desperate to beat us, because your tag or Pat Spillanes tag of Team of the Decade is a little diluted!

Our Total Football mantra is something i'm very proud of & the adversity of the team to pull through very trying times fills me with great pride & joy. The Tyrone team regards itself as a band of brothers - a family, and thats something I buy into everytime!

I'm only sorry we didnt beat Cork last year to meet ya's in the final. Hopefully we'll get to meet again this year. We'll try & do our bit & you try & do your bit to make that happen. Best of luck

:lol::lol::lol:

We'd probably kick the shite outa them in Hurling too!!

-----------------------------

On the team of the decade though youd have to give it to Kerry if your giving it to anyone. As you said RHD they won more all irelands and got to more finals than anyone else. I know though that the Tyrone thing really bugs kerryfolk, and that will always be a footnote on this Kerry teams decade of success.

Cracking finish this.

Penalty? Goal! Wtf!?

GOAL!!! Meath win it in the 74th minute!

Holy shit he threw it over the line!

Some thug just punched the referee.
