Shame we’re aren’t more like Brighton
When has that ever happened? If it’s positive about United it’s obviously bs. Nothing positive EVAH happens at UnitedAs opposed to people reading a positive tweet and taking it as gospel?

1) we CAN challenge for the league, future tense.A team that CAN challenge for the league. As in future tense.
Also, what did you finishing higher than us get you? Feck all.
Im sure if United agreed to pay what he’s owed it would be done, but we can’t for tax and regulatory reasons. So, Barca and him are in a game of who blinks first
True that. To be fair, the meltdown over this relevo tweet has been small at best. I think people see it for the BS it isWhen has that ever happened? If it’s positive about United it’s obviously bs. Nothing positive EVAH happens at United

Play in a team that can challenge for the best league in the world? Play in a team that can win the Champions League? Play under under a top class coach who has won the Champions League? Play with loads of other top class players? Live in a world class city like London?
He absolutely won’t come here (because we’re not actually after him) but to act like there’s no reason for him to want to come to Chelsea is weird.
Surely finishing above you would show who is best suited to challenging for a title? Isn’t that how leagues are determined?A team that CAN challenge for the league. As in future tense.

Trying to get United to move quickly and pay his outstanding wages so Barca doesn't have to pay it.I still don't understand the motivation given we agreed on the fee.
Barca fecking around trying to go back on an agreed offer? Media outlet wants clicks? What is it?
I believe it is an issue. Both that he’ll miss out CL next season, but more important that we are not really perceived as a top club anymore. It’s not so attractive to play for United anymore.CL Football shouldn't really be an issue. It's decided season by season. Whats saying he joins Chelsea, plays in the CL, falls at the first knockout stage, then Chelsea finish 5th and don't qualify, wheras we play in the EL, win it and get into the CL, or finish in the top 4.
CL is a season, by season thing, just because you qualify one season, doesn't mean you won't the next
Well I’m sure there is nothing that would prevent us from paying him extra £15m over the length of his contract and basically pitch this as a bonus to waive his due Barca salary?
It's not just about Chelsea qualifying for the CL, they win the thing as well.
As soon as you start saying stuff like that though, it always comes back to "Well, people prefer living in London compared to Manchester" even journos take that approach when reporting stuffTwice in their entire history, both seasons after sacking managers mid season cause they were generally wank. Both bizarre occurrences.
So they’ve finished behind United in 2 of the past three years, but they’ve won 2 CL in their history so they are a much more attractive proposition for any player… sure.

I'd imagine if they were true, we'd act on it quickly, but my guess is his agent has likely said its rubbish so don't bother
It's not just about Chelsea qualifying for the CL, they win the thing as well. They did it a year back and almost knocked out the eventual winners this year. Chelsea are a much more attractive choice for any player
Also, assuming Chelsea are in for him.. why would he go there? Does he only love Barca until the mighty Chelsea come in? It’s utter nonsense
Has anyone credible said this? Doesn’t he just want his money? He wants CL to be fair. That's the difference against us.
What do they achieve? A saving of over €17m and a high wage player off their books. Quite a lot I'd say.Yeah so what do they achieve? They know FdJ is talking to EtH and his agent will keep us in the loop atleast.
My bet is that this is purely a newspaper thing. They got a bunch of clicks when they did it last time so they are trying to capitalise on a slow news day.
He wants CL to be fair.

CL > Europa. He might not explicitly want it, but he will sure as hell prefer it.Has anyone credible said this? Doesn’t he just want his money?
What are these regulatory and tax reasons? I can't find reliable source explaining these.
If FdJ waves his deferred payments and decides to join United. Barcelona will be off the hook and get the agreed transfer fee of 85m Euro.
United will sign the player and offers him an additional signing bonus of the same value as his deferred payments. The signing bonus can be even stretched over the time of his contract.
I don't see any legal or tax issues here. Except United probably doesn't want to pay money that Barcelona owes to FdJ.
This game of who blinks first. Barca are playing it quite shitly.
Sign Kessie, Raphina, Lewa and another that I can't remember. Cant register any of them. Also in desperate need of money.
Surely there is only one outcome here
Isn’t that just an assumption? At United he’s promised to be at the centre of a project and all that jazz. One club happens to be in the CL one year shouldnt really play into the Project that any club puts forward. It’s stupidly short term.CL > Europa. He might not explicitly want it, but he will sure as hell prefer it.
It's not so much about history as it is about the present. We've won nothing for 5 years.Twice in their entire history, both seasons after sacking managers mid season cause they were generally wank. Both bizarre occurrences.
So they’ve finished behind United in 2 of the past three years, but they’ve won 2 CL in their history so they are a much more attractive proposition for any player… sure.
Just a thought on this. De Jong would be owed from Barcelona an X amount. If this is the net amount, Barcelona would have to pay X+Tax to the Spanish government. So they will pay nothing to Spanish authorities, since United will take care of that in UK. This could raise eyebrows and could require investigation as it can create a precedent, where teams can agree to revert to such tricks with buying teams to evade taxation if the taxation in the buying team's country is lower.
Just a theory of course, not saying that I believe this is the case.
From my perspective, if the deferred wages is the only issue, I do not understand why the agent does not make a big fuss about it in the media and prefers to stick to the line of wanting to stay in Barca and blah blah. I do not get this strategy. Leaking this issue over the media from the agent's side (not the player directly) would cause more pressure to Barcelona to pay up. The only reasonable explanation to me is that they player wants to keep a low profile and his options open, even staying to Barcelona with a new agreement.

To be fair to what? Not a single source has said he wants Champions League football.
I refuse to believe that any player decides the next 4,5,6 years of their career based on what competition a team is or isn’t in in year 1.
Yeah certainly looks like it. FDJs legal team definitely dropped the ball on this one.All Barcelona supporters here say Barcelona doesn't owe FdJ anything, if leaves this summer.
He signed a new contract which starts adding the deferred payments to his current wages this upcoming season. Thus, if the contract is voided, because he joins United, Barcelona won't owe him anything. The Spanish tax authorities can't claim any taxes on wages, which never have been paid.

I mean, we simply don't know what that agreement to defer wages looks like. Pretty pointless going off hearsay from Barca fans.Yeah certainly looks like it. FDJs legal team definitely dropped the ball on this one.
Highly unlikely. I think he knows the deal now and that he's not wanted. As soon as the wage issue is sorted I'd say he's definitely on his wayWhat if they have already agreed to pay his wages but he doesn't want to leave?

Should be the sensible thing to do, but the overrating of the CL among fans and players could blind someone's judgement, specially if we are likely to miss it next season too (although personally I think we should be able to get the 4th place even without De Jong.)
What if they have already agreed to pay his wages but he doesn't want to leave?
That's the thing, we don't really know anything. We're going by media reports for everything, and let's be honest they're far from reliable aren't they.I mean, we simply don't know what that agreement to defer wages looks like. Pretty pointless going off hearsay from Barca fans.
