Your assuming that everyone is being honest about the situation. It wouldn't surprise me if the agent has used Utd interest initially (he has multiple other Utd players on his books) to ward off Barca's attempts to reduce his clients salary again, but the more it has developed the more it has backfired, because you have a very interested party wanting to sign him, a club that is very interested in selling him due to their financial situation, and a player that at every turn is saying I love it at Barca. He has just bought a house there, loves the lifestyle and it is his childhood dream club - he respects Utd but he loves Barca. This situation feels very wrong to me, if FDJ doesn't end up at Utd, then Im sorry we have been led a merry dance by someone involved in the deal..

this doesn’t make a lot of sense

they don’t need to engineer interest from United to stop Barca reducing his wages

they don’t need to do anything for that, he has a contract they just need to do nothing

That’s the murky part of this isn’t it. Apart from those close to either party who really knows.

I think United seem relaxed so I guess they expect Barca to sort it out with him first. That’s my interpretation of the situation anyway.
A key point in all this is whether or not Barca actually contractually owe him the money or if he waived it. If he waived it under the agreement that his wages would increase in future rather than deferred it then he's in a difficult position as he'd be walking away from substantial earnings.

They knew exactly what they were doing.

Doesn’t exactly look like Barca are gonna put him in the stands or reserves now does it.

Amazing how there are really three parties to this and none of them have done themselves any favors here. United looking the worst but Barca looking like absolute fools as well, and De Jong comes out looking quite desperate too. Utter shambles.

United categorically do not come out of this looking the worst.

Irrespective of what is currently going on, United should just move onto another target and leave Barcelona/de Jong to it. Imagine the scenes after all this trouble he ends up being shite. United need to start moving like a big club and just move on.

If it was just about the £17m in deferred wages, the easiest thing would be to knock it off the transfer fee and United could give it to de Jong up front, especially if everything has been agreed.

Should be getting a new agent if that wasn't iron clad.

What is so terrible about Uniteds situation? They agreed a fee like any other club would, and I am sure EtH spoke to FdJ about coming here. The main problem and power game is between player and Barca.

Perhaps they've taken him on tour to show him what it's like to sit on the bench doing nothing while everyone else gets to play :D

I have no idea. I will try not to assume anything. I think it is unlikely that FDJ and ETH have not spoken directly. They know each other. I think it is unlikely FDJ tells ETH he’ll come here if he never will. You think it more likely they haven’t spoken? Or you think FDJ misleads ETH?

I can foresee how this transfer may pan out. Given the shenanigans with FDJ deferred wages and perhaps some reservations in moving to OT, I can see it getting to the last week before close of transfer deadline, Utd walking away and Chelsea swopping in 3 days before to sign the player!

If he has waived it off then it makes sense that he is holding on and not ready to go unless he is paid. He has a valid contract and Barca cant force him out.

Plus Barca can be accused in court of negotiating in bad faith. Hence Laporta always publicly says that FDJ isnt for sale and is an important player. FDJ and his team is also feeding the story that he wants to stay , because they wont have any case if they announce anything different.

Most likely the deferred payment has to be paid by Barca for this deal to go ahead. This hold up will continue till then. I dont think FDJ wants to stay there anymore after how Barca board has leaked information about his contract and then fed the story of how he is refusing to leave and rejecting salary reduction request. But his team wont acknowledge that publicly

If we are at an advanced enough stage to agree a fee with his club then surely this will happen.
Would De Jong really string along Erik Ten Hag like this when they worked so well together in the past?

There's nothing FdJ or his agent have said or done which gives the impression they want to sort out the deferred wages and complete a transfer to Utd. In fact, they are completely content in letting things carry on as player wants to stay, and he'll be eventually paid what he's owed anyway. There's zero urgency from player or his camp to speed up this transfer, and this is what a lot of fans are frustrated with. Not that manager and player haven't spoken, it's obvious they have. But, the said player isn't as keen either.

If a better club than us came calling, you can bet your house, they'd have sorted this a while ago and completed a move.
Of course they are content on letting things carry on. I have also not said he is desperate to move here either. I am only disputing the cliams that he absolutely does not want to come and that we know he does not want to come.
He has a contract and he's going to be on €500k+ per week for the final three years of his contract. It is Barcelona that need to get moving not Frenkie.
If a better team than us were after him, the same thing would be happening.

This transfer daga feels like placing an order at Amazon, but the item just won't get dispatched. Frustrating, as you desperately need the item.

This is my understanding. FDJ deferred his wages. He would get repaid the ~16m he is owed over the next two years. So if he leaves early...

This is why he says he is not leaving. He wants his money and Barca is trying to get rid of him without paying him these deferred wages. I expect a settlement prior to the window closing.

This ones done. We are just waiting for his agent and barca to play out their drama and see what compromise they come to in the deferred salaries.

Literally their entire summer hinges on getting his transfer fee from us.

But people here say that we should let it go.
If our board backs the manager to the hilt, then people have an issue. If the board doesn't back the manager, then people have an issue.

Moral of the story- Certain morons will always moan, they are best left alone.

If you believe that article you have to believe he has given Ten Hag his word. This will happen guys. It’s obviously just a complicated deal and will take time. Have patience.

No, not waived the contract, that would still be valid, but agreed to waive a portion of his wage entitlement. If the agreement was that he forfeited money on the agreement that they would increase his wages later then he is only entitled to that money if he stays and earns it. If he leaves he wouldnt get a penny. If thats the situation it would explain why the transfer has ground to a halt.

I was talking about this part. Promising him salary increase in future to compensate for salary reductions and then asking to reduce the salary and forcing him to leave can put Barca in trouble if it goes to court. Thats why their public statements are always like how they dont have to sell and he is an important player. FDJ cant say anything different also as it would seem he has agreed a transfer so he isn’t entitled to pay rise either.

You are right about the deal getting stuck and unless barca pays him the salary that he is entitled to, this will not progress. If ETH is desperate for him then i can see us waiting for this to resolve till the end of the window

I disagree. Or you would rather have the club not pursue the player?
