How do you know what was said? Because Romano and Romero say they've not agreed with de Jong yet? The big one for them is the issues with the fee. That's totally agreed now apparently.

It's now time for Barca and de Jong to sort their issues out and come to a conclusion. De Jong doesn't want another pay cut, Barca don't want to and frankly can't afford to pay them. He'll likely be told that if he genuinely love and cares for the club and wants what's best for them, hell take the transfer

Its more likely that he himself enjoys to play for and live in Barcelona than that he genuinly loves the club (and would leave because its best for them).

I wonder if Arnold and Murtough have returned because of the Eriksen medical being completed and the need for the contract to be signed?

They're heading to amsterdam for Martinez

Well we're trying to hijack their player simply cause of their financial strife.

No other club is rushing to sign Barca players cause they know the circus that comes with it. Not us though.

Exactly my point let’s just walk do Eriksen, Tielemans, Kante and Dumfries for sane money

He can force it. If he refuses the paycut and refuses to leave Barca are fecked because of the salary cap. Unless you've some information I'm not aware of.
He would be pretty stupid to take a pay cut again at this point unless Barcelona pony up what they already owe him as part of that agreement

Mate, if you read my comment I'm literally using your train of thought that the two lads went to Barca to try finalize a deal, isn't that exactly what you've believe?

You can't credit them for being clever enough to believe a deal can be done, yet be stupid enough to not be aware the issue is between player and club?

They likely got on the jet knowing full well that finalizing the deal was very unlikely but wanted to be visually seen doing so.

This is their 3rd meeting in person for this deal in 6 weeks, yet this is the only time they've been caught by the media and plastered everywhere, what a co-inky-dink.

Honestly it sounds like they are setting up the pieces for it to be announced the deal is off and they can say oh look we tried to the supporters, the issue is not us.

i hope so. I want to believe!

I fear that he will decide to stay knowing he will probably find a way in to the team. Then he can keep his cash
Barca dont want to pay all that money right now but do want to sell him. De Jong has massive leverage here and could push for a payment structure that suits him if he wants.

A deal to be done here is: he transfers to us. Barca get the fee. Then Barca make payments of the money due, over a set number of years. In that instance, the issue for De Jong is how long that period is, and how those payments are guaranteed given how shaky Barca looks (maybe United have guaranteed the payments, that would be interesting). Clubs pay a percentage of salary for loan players all the time, it's not a million miles from that.

The "impasse" being reported feels like the agent drawing his negotiating lines with the club, IMO. He has a deal with United in his back pocket and now he's going to get what he's owed from Barca.

If Barcelona aren't paying him I don't see him staying there under any circumstances, even if they make him whole, they're hardly a destination for ambitious players right now.

Whether he comes to us I am far less convinced about.
It’s not his fault totally but a great club like United shouldn’t be chasing the girl of their dreams when that girl doesn’t even find them attractive! Time to move on £60M gets Tielemans, Eriksen, Kante and pays £15M to the Dumfries transfer fee

He can't right now, by the end of his contract. Sure... in 2026.

United is in need of midfielders and Barca has too many midfielders in surplus.

FDJ must seriously think and he will know which club is the right club for his own career.

Agreed.

Might not be an elite Midfield but reckon it could be enough to get us top 4 perhaps and build on it from there.

Ripping up that scouting list is starting to look pretty stupid now.

And in the short term he gets to stay in Barcelona and earn even more wages at 600k a week.

So tell me why he is so desperate to leave? Barca are the ones that NEED him to leave ASAP.

If they want him gone, they need to give FDJ what he's owed. It's that simple.

This is why it's taking so long as they clearly can't agree on that. They're asking FDJ to forget what he's owed, why should he?

Madrid actually had the money to pay him, Barca don’t forget FDJ
Barca don’t, so they have to somehow come up with sth for him to agree to move, either by paying up or other dodgy means.

Sorry I didn't read your post properly due to being out and about, so i apologise for being an arse there

We do differ there as it'd be stupidly silly for them to put this much effort in to just say we tried. They obviously have a genuine belief or assurances that he wants to join and they're acting on them.

He isn't desperate to leave, he's literally said the exact opposite time and time again. Of course he wants his money and the only way I see him ever getting it is staying put if I'm honest. Barca won't pay up, they are using their budget for new players so he'll stay put on deferred wages it seems.

If he had any cop on, he could of publicly stated I am being with held monies I am owed and want to move to United, it'd put huge public pressure on Barca to cough up.

Don't tell me he can't say this publicly, he can. Plenty of players openly court moves to other clubs, Ronaldo is doing it right now. Lukaku done it last season, Martinez is asking Ajax to accept our bid... It's happening all over Europe right now with players.

In a vain attempt to get Barca to pay the money he is owed.

He is owed that money regardless of our interest or not.

Keefy, you seem to have issue with Erik Ten Hags "pull" certainly in bringing things up in this instance.

But pray tell, how does Frenkie saying he wants to join Ten Hag at United, but actually doesn't, benefit him at all.

If he wants his deferred wages none of this theory holds water. He would simply sit at Barcelona collecting his wages weekly, and the contract he is currently on would do that leg work for him.

If he wants it now, he would have to follow legal proceedings, but again negotiating to leave would not achieve your theoretical endgame.

If this is how it ends this has to be the lamest sagas of them all. Can't say I've been particularly invested. I like the type of player he is but it's been too boring- 95 per cent done followed feck all for the longest time. Hope we conclude our other deals while this one keeps meandering

To be fair, having the deal agreed with United should give Barca that bit more of an incentive to get it done ASAP. They've got the money there waiting, money they NEED at this moment in time. They'll be frantically looking for a way to get him out I imagine.

My guess is a compromise on deferred wage payments will be coming soon

So you think they can reduce his wages from what is stipulated in his contract for next year without his agreement?

He's chasing money he is already owed from the previous two years.

He signed a new clause agreeing to this, someone posted it a few pages back and explained it.

The only way he gets that money is by staying put and seeing out the term of his contract, Barca would eventually have to pay it.

You're not understanding it correctly, that is my point. He isn't the one asking to leave, Barca are trying to kick him out.

He likes Barcelona, he's earning a huge wage. If they want him to leave, they have to sweeten the deal for him.

Barca can't ask him to leave AND cut his money short. that's just stupid - but that's what they are trying to do.

FDJ is clearly happy to join us as a 2nd choice, but he wants what he is owed. Can you not understand why it's taking time to get it complete?

It's not an issue our end, it's an arguement between them.

Difference is, they have no respect for their current clubs. De Jong respects Barca and their fans. He wouldn't want to damage that respect by kicking off, not in public anyway. He knows that if/when he leaves, Barca will twist it anyway to make him look the arsehole.

All he has to say is look how respectful I was. Never said i wanted to leave, never wanted to kick up a fuss in public etc. Both Barca and de Jong are trying to protect their image. Behind the scenes though, I bet its a totally different story. Plus there's the issue of any loyalty bonuses that they'd likely refuse to pay.

You're grand, no offence taken at all.

I'll be honest and say, he'll join IF he gets the money... but kinda reluctantly so.

Someone posted it on here many pages back with his list of options going forward and I reckon were 3rd / 4th in his options and were doing everything we can to be seen publicly backing the manager, perhaps too much so considering recent history, growing resentment towards the board...again, attempting to get the manager his main target after making promises to him etc etc

They're clearly setting fans up for the deal is off announcement. In the sense hey we tried but.
If you think we’ve spent over 2 months on this deal without the knowledge he’s open to coming then I don’t really know what to tell you. Romano has always been behind the 8 ball with this move and has never broken any development on it first. He clearly has no inside track on it. Not saying it’s definitely going to happen, but Romano has never been the one for this saga.

Today this epic disappointment of a saga reminds me of that time when I was too drunk to reach an orgasm, yet toiled on and on and on, only to eventually throw in the towel.

If he still respects Barca after all this he must be the sweetest most forgiving man ever.

It was Romero who broke the latest update it seems.
