Obviously ten Hag thinks so, but is he absolutely worth this effort over Tielemans and Neves?

Did you not read the tweets? United are pursuing this transfer due to assurances by de Jong that he wants the move but the wage issues are causing problems.

We're not just wildly chasing a player that doesn't want to come.

First part of my post was an old saved draft from a frustrated moment that I had decided not to post.. It went along when I answered the second one somehow. I'm still pretty unsure that this deal will come off, but I'm hoping for the best.

Aaaah ok no problem!

Have some faith. This was never going to be straightforward and it was always going to get very very messy. We just have to use our common sense and wade through the crap that's being put out there

I’m sorry but the ‘transfer saga’ and ‘disastrous window’ posts I’m seeing are really annoying. The window doesn’t close until the 1st of September. If it was so simple to get complex transfers done, why not just have a month long window? Because in the real world not every transfer is straightforward with the vast sums of money involved.

If by the start of the season there has been no further signings, or the inkling of any, then yeah fine get a bit concerned. But it’s not even halfway through July for gods sake. Wish people would stop being so negative, dramatic and entitled.

Rant over.

Is this the new Di maria gag or something? Or has nobody here actually experienced football outside of FM\fifa?

Hah! To be honest, I think I've only seen de Jong play once and that was when I was in Sweden for the Cup Final and he came on as a sub.

I don’t know if this was discussed before but can’t he sign for us and sue Barcelona for the money owed?

I keep telling you folk:
Stop giving every Spanish tweet air time, how can you not see they are a clusterfeck of clickbait, they've lost track of the story broadly.

Stone - Ducker - Whitwell are all you need for this one.

Don’t apologise, you’re quite right. They are!

Don't worry, those make up half my posts

So TLDR the move is delayed because Barca still need to pay him money that was promised to be paid out when he took a wage cut?

I have 0 doubts this will be resolved and we'll sign him then.

You have to ask yourself how does this end?

1. FdJ stays at Barca but doesn't play - pretty unlikely if they don't want him and can't afford him. They risk dropping out the UCL if they mess things up too badly which would be an even biger financial disaster. 3/10

2. FdJ stays at Barca and plays. Possible but they still can't afford him and he doesn't fit what they want to do. 6/10

3. FdJ leaves for another club. Not looking very likely right now. 2/10

4. We walk away. Possible but why would we? The alternatives are pretty poor. But as time passes becomes increasingly likely. That puts pressure on Barca more than FdJ. 5/10

5. We pay more. Again why would we. Murtough has made it clear he won't and he's not an idiot like Woodward. 2/10

6. FdJ drops his demands for money owed. Extremely unlikely. He'd be mad to do that. 0/10

7. Barca pays him off - maybe with some face saving staggering - and he joins us. I still think this is the most likely option. 8/10

Which player would now look to move to Barcelona after this mess. Real Madrid will be gobbling up all the talent.

I know the caf loves a brief but there's nothing on those Journalist's Twitter. Isn't it the case that briefs are usually posted on their timelines in almost concurrent fashion?

Didn't think journalists would want to put out articles for those.

isn’t it sort of obvious that nothing would progress until he returned from holiday?

everything in between has just been filing paper columns. I suspect it’ll now happen quickly. Barca will give him the ultimatum, he will decide one way or another.

We will get some answers soon.

You'd think that it would be common sense that the club would sound out players before approaching the club with a bid. It would be extremely irresponsible of any club to just assume that a player wanted to join them
I think it's standard practice on any transfer

Yup hence why I have no idea why people are so sure that were going for a player that has no intention of joining us. People who also blame Ten Hag saying he's obsessed with de Jong and is blindly chasing him... it just wouldn't happen. I'm sure ten Hag would have loved to have had Timber, but once he knew he was having doubts, he moved on, sharpish
