It really isn't that deep. Barcelona are playing a public game. Man Utd are keeping quiet and respecting the selling club and continuing to be patient with the mess they are in.

This drama has completely taken the joy out of bringing Frenkie in. Seriously. He doesn’t really want to come here, Barca is dragging their feet.

I’m happy just to move on. Another poorly handled window by United.

I’m betting this thread will reach 1000 pages, and what will we have had to show for it?

Countless tedious "we should walk away" posts?

Maybe the real treasure was the Friends you made along the way

Is anyone else not bothered about this transfer anymore at this stage, or am I alone?
My stance hasn't changed since the start: I still expect him to be a Barcelona player next season.

If he signs for United, great. If not, well, I got used to us being shite and we'll probably be shite anyway with him, too.

Speak for yourself

Why's that then?

Woodward f*cked up a lot of relationships with other clubs, I don't see the harm in Murtough maintaining patience here and trying to re-establish some good rapport with other clubs.

It goes without saying that we don’t know the full story, publicly. But it speaks volumes that we’re not remotely being linked with an alternative .. Everything rational points to him coming..

If Barca weren’t trying to force him out, why would they still be mentioning a possible move? Why wouldn’t it simply be “Barca are planning to sit down and discuss a new contract with Frenkie De Jong”

Why is it “If Frenkie doesn’t cut his wages he has to leave”

It’s all posturing and it’s all pointing to him coming here

It’s pretty relevant because only one of them is an asset to make them money.

If Dembele could fetch a package of around €80 million I don’t think he would be at Barça either, they will be selling him.

They couldn’t sell him at any point because of his wages and injuries. Id imagine it was the same thing with us and Pogba. Most clubs would only consider taking on those wages on a free transfer or a really small transfer fee. At that point the Selling club may as well just hold on to the player until their contract is expired.

What drama?

There's just journos making stuff up as they like.

No drama here.

The boy is on vacation, he just proposed to his girlfriend, his old boss wants him to join one of the best clubs in the world in the best league in the world....

Came back to Amsterdam to tell his dad he's signing for fecking United and getting back with ETH.

He's fecking delighted, it's probably the best summer he ever had.

So many people in here claiming to know he's not coming and it's a dead deal... how many are willing to put their money where there mouths are??

Probably the best stance to have.

I just want the football to return, transfer windows are such a joyless bore nowadays.

Why's that then?
I dunno, feels like that's how most of these sagas end (I mean United not getting the player). Sneijder, Thiago, Fábregas, Ramos, Kroos, and so on.

They'll probably sell the stadium or whore Laporta out to bored businessmen with a 'smarmy politician' fetish or something to fix their finances.

Not sure people are aware just how bad those finances are.

Fair enough, I can understand the reluctance. All the signs are positive here though in my opinion.

Exactly, this saga is lukewarm at best, no "Nos vamos en Manchester" no de Gea hand writing analysis. No Stormzy.

Some people aren't about that muppet life.
Half the people getting stressed here and panicking would likely have stroked out by now in the Thiago or Benzema transfers... they were the days

I also think people are too close to this to realise that it’s not been THAT long.. all reports are that United are relaxed and that speaks volumes.

The Malacia one seemed to ‘drag’ a bit as we got the breaking news and then nothing until Friday. But that was reported and done in one week. I think what I’m trying to say is just chill out everyone

Chasing a marquee signing was also going to be extra difficult this summer. I can't see it ending anytime soon which is why its good to see United starting to sign more realistic targets.

Could be 700 pages before this Frankie/Barca mess is sorted.

He deferred payment for two seasons. I suspect he will still see some of that but not all, if he were to stay. If the club was open and honest then I would do whatever it took to help and make myself a hero to the supporters. I certainly wouldn't feck them over like some are suggesting. The problem wasn't caused by Laporte, he is trying to help sort them out. I would be open to talking to him if I were in his shoes or the roles were reversed and I was getting paid £100k's to pay for the club I love.
Except in this case there is a narrative in the media that you have not played up to the level expected of you, a narrative that is being pushed by the heirachy of your club infact. Add to that the club is openly looking to purchase a player to compete for your spot in the team with money made from YOUR salary.

We need to set an ultimatum and walk away from this deal by the end of the week. That'll set a marker for future deals. All this wrangling is none of our business and we've been burnt and used too often as a bargaining chip.

Yeah I am starting to think we should as well because quite frankly it's gone nowhere for a week

Eh, the issue is with Barca and Frenkie because they refused to pay his deferred salary. He has to go, but he wants to have his money too.

bloody hell your opinion changes like the wind, you said it would happen by the end of the tour this morning now you’ve joined the walking away brigade

Not walking away but they need an ultimatum

Not walking away but they need an ultimatum
An ultimatum for what? If the delay is between Barca and de Jong and we're waiting for them to sort stuff out, what exactly can we do?

Could it be that the add on story is just a front whilst Barca and FdJ sort payments and the sorts out?

That's the spirit. What's the point in you posting here or following United? Why not find something else to do?
