If Barca has deferred his wages then wont they have to pay him even if he isnt there?

The deferred wage BS that Barca is trying to pull might be what is really delaying this deal. Barca is trying to get him out the door without paying up, Frenkie/agent not gonna budge till they get paid.

You'd think so, but wouldn't put it past them to try and weasel out of that
Yes but the wages are for labour already done. No way Barcelona will win if it is brought in court. I hope FDJ and his agent threaten them with lawsuit and also refuse to lower his salary.

No what they need to do is sell the remaining 15% of TV rights, which probably then allows them a better bargaining position with United on the addons
Also I think its already been pointed out that its better for them to wait for this to happen prior to the sale, so they can actually use the funds from the transfer. If not then they can't use all of the funds

What a way to feck up their future revenue. Barcelona is so fecked.

"That he has inserted in his contract"

How cunning of him

This is laughable. As if Barca did not agree to its insertion in order to persuade him to join. What a joke of a club. To all the players signing for them, have you not been put on notice that this could happen to you as well next year?

I just read that they might have agreed to higher wages for his remaining contract and pay him that way. So if they sell him then they might save it.
It was only a theory but scummy if it’s true

How is it possible that they took no lessons from the Messi fiasco?

De Jong on deferred wages, Pique the same, probably loads more and even while they dig themselves deeper with existing players they're out there trying to bring in more big names.

Barca fans, what am I missing?

Magic levers

I agree but just to be devil's advocate, he also did agree to it presumably.

Of course I'm sure he didn't imagive they'd shaft him either but after watching it happen to Messi can anyone really act shocked.

That's ridiculous if true. Don't they have a PFA or something?

They sold part of their TV rights and merchandise rights, two of the biggest revenue streams for a football club, for temporary short term gain. It's not really been talked about much but I think this is the beginning of the end of Barcelona at the top level of football. My prediction, within a decade they'll probably be relegated. They are in shambles financially (although there is some temporary relief), their team needs an overhaul and they can't pay for any of it because they sold their means of generating cash. They sell De Jong this year, Gavi in a couple, Pedri in another, Fati a permacrock that will probably never have a career. What's left? After that it's a fairly unimpressive squad, and I don't see where, after maybe this year, they are paying any sort of money for new players, because where would they generate that money from?

Increasingly beginning to think that this is where the complications lie. Barca trying to mess about with money owed to the player and wrangling over add ons. The situation they are in seems pretty bad, so I'm not surprised that ourselves and Frenkie are being patient as Barca are the ones that NEED something to happen in order to register players, etc.

It works out to less than 5% of overall revenue I believe (25% of TV rights) and doesn't include UCL either

In that time there will probably be 2/3 new TV deals. They are potentially losing a lot of money.

No because the clause in the contract, if TV revenue rises above a certain level then they retain the profits above that

Initial amount being done and the potential amount rising to a certain amount still being discussed... We must've seen that being said in 54 different tweets being written in 38 different ways. Just stop it!

Barca playing games again

Again, putting the blame on everyone but themselves. It's pretty obvious the games they're playing but so many people on here still believe every word they throw out.

As i say, positive news is BS, negative news, regrdless of the source is doom and gloom

I see this as pretty positive for us. They seem to be fully expecting him to go hence all this shite that's coming out.

There will be news of the fee agreed soon then we go from there a d wrap this up.

His interest is still to stay at Barca, provided that the salary does not go through such a paycut. Since Barca refuses to pay his original salary, he has no choice but to move out.

Most of you must understand that the club would not move for a player if the agent has already said the player is going to stay and he has agreed to a paycut. The club only went ahead after understanding that FDJ is not going to agree to a paycut and thus, needs to move out.

The problem right now is with Barcelona trying to make the add ons become easily achievable. However they are on the losing end as the longer they hold on to FDJ, the less time they have to register deals for players like Lewandowski. So its just a matter of time before he comes.
Missed this. Good post, fully agree.

Restlessness at Barca with Ali Dursun, (de Jong's agent)

The representative is absent and the club has been trying to sit down with him for days.

On the table: transfer to Man Utd or a pay cut.

Seems very quiet on de Jong.
Not sure if this is the just a dead deal now. If no deal this week I do not see this happening.
I’ll contact Barca and let them know you’re calling it off if it’s not done this week.

I think suggesting he is "fighting to stay" is a bit of hyperbole and an exaggeration when most likely he is literally doing nothing as he's been on holiday.

He's under contract, he doesn't need to fight for anything.

It's not all black and white though, is it. You're saying he has a contract, he can just stay put. How will that go down with their fans and the club? If he wants to stay, he may be willing to help the club out a bit to make it possible. I don't know why nobody can accept this. If I played for United, I'd 100% take a pay cut rather than have to move. Especially if it's the difference between a bucket load of money and a slightly smaller bucket load of money. He's hardly going to end up on the poverty line.
