If you're going away for the summer, you'd probably want to clean out your locker anyway. I found a pear in my backpack the other day that had been in there for a week. Don't want mold and stuff growing.

Frustration  Even if we sign him today, he will join on 8th July. I dont think ETH is that dumb to get frustrated over not signing a player he cant use anyway for next 3 weeks. That line was just written to get a reaction from internet fans and create more clicks. Nothing else

Literally being reported by the more 'credible' sources that he's getting frustrated. Uniteds pre season training starts in 9 days.

Nightmare. Had that with a tangerine in a pocket of mine I forgot excited. Was there about 3 months.

Yeah rebuilding that midfield is without doubt top priority, this will help our CB's not get so exposed. Then we need to focus on improving our RB situation and either a RW or number 9.
Agreed. Two CMs, a RB and a forward player should be the priorities along with selling/loaning out established players who won't play a part and then promoting Garner, Hannibal, Pellistri and Amad to the first team.

Sounds like it will be done in the next week or two. It’s not an issue as the players are not due to train until first week of July.

There were reports earlier this year saying ETH wants his signing in place for pre-season, so let’s see what comes of it.

The way some people are moaning you’d think it was August with us signing no one.
Exactly. We should only start worrying if there's nothing done/agreed by June 27.

Problem is, United have lost 6 first teamers. Henderson is off too. Van de beek is the only loan returnee who’ll likely stay and get first team opportunities. So United are going to need to sign 5-7 players this summer and seem only capable of negotiating one deal at a time.
We're not gonna sign 5-7 players. The squad is still bloated in some aspect. We have 6 CBs.

I think many fans have no idea what kind of pressure that places on the finances on the club. That, and the fact that most of the players we've let go didn't bring in a transfer fee. We've pretty much squandered our inheritance.

Logic. Quite pissing about and get the deals done

Logical. But then the question is where would that leave Bruno. Who the Feck decided to renew Bruno on a big contract before new manager took the office? I know Eriksen can play the wing play maker role, or drop deeper as a no 8, but still a chance Bruno would get in the way of how ETH wants to run the team efficiently with total football philosophy.

it would leave him in a position where he isn't fecking undroppable anymore if he plays poorly. I'm all for it.

Without meaning to sound rude I see this sort of thing posted a lot whenever we're linked to players, i.e. what does that mean for player X if we sign player Y. I don't really understand it

Look at the squads City and Liverpool have. We need quality players who can rotate if we have any hope of getting back to a position where we can challenge for every trophy. Bruno doesn't need to be an undroppable player who starts 99% of games, there's nothing wrong with having a player come in who can compete with him for that position

With Man City comparison, you can see that Fernandinho is not happy with his reduced role and sounded like he spoke out publicly in press conference about his decision not to renew before communicating with the club/Pep. Previously it was Sane. Sterling is now rumored with a move away after having his role reduced. Gabriel Jesus stagnated, also rumored to leave too. Bernardo Silva is also linked with Barcelona. These guys are not that further back in rotation pecking order. You have to factor in the wage City can afford to lure all their high earner in the first place.

Liverpool is a very bad example about squad depth. Only last season they really have some depth, in certain positions; and now it looks like it's just the preparation for a transition, not a plan to keep the squad stacked. Origi is gone so Firmino is downgraded to the bench. Mane is already on the way out, while Salah would be on his way next summer. Liverpool couldn't cope with VVD season long injury in 20/21 season. They need ancient Milner to back up for both full back positions because they don't really have great option beyond the starters there. Midfield has the number but under closer look, it's paper thin. Naby Keita is injury prone and looked like up for sale with only one year left on his contract while he can't establish himself in the team. Thiago is in his thirty. He's the type that needs his fitness carefully taken care of or he would stay out with injuries for huge part of the season. Ox is high wage earner who nobody want and contribute little nowadays. That leaves Fabinho and Henderson to carry the midfield all season. Their youngster can fill in in some games but not the same quality that you can describe with Man City option. The season before when Fabinho had to fill in as CB, Liverpool midfield suffered too. All in all, Liverpool has been getting away with their players staying healthy rather squad depth. More importantly, Liverpool wage structure is heaven and earth apart from our own.

Bruno new contract would mean he needs to be persisted because sitting a high earner is troublesome. You either rid the underperforming or trying to get him to perform. The players on the pitch are entitled to get paid on same wage with high earner non performing. Not easy to move a high earner on freshly new contract. Do Liverpool or Man City look loyal to their previous star players?

This is becoming a saga, we don't have to lose ourselves like we are atm, we need to build a fresh new team and this deal is delaying the process.

Romero is the reason why deal is not done yet

Tbf, it may have some truth in it. Barcelona needs all the posturing to calm their fans over the financial concern. They have to feed the fans hope with new signings along side with their firesale, which depends on other selling clubs. Making matter known then it creates a chain of delay. Everyone try to get more out of the situation, be it us, or the selling clubs.

Saying all that, I expect FdJ is in the bag already. Only the matter of official announcement :wenger:

Yes, we all understand training begins in July, but if we’re going to bring in De Jong you don’t want to sign him up the first day of training. He will need to get settled in Manchester — a place to live and other personal arrangements — before training starts. That may only take a few days, but keep in mind he’s not moving in from Bolton or even Bournemouth. Barcelona.

Yeah, so negociating a player while saying that you have a 200M budget for the summer is clearly not the best strategy....

Are Barcelona going to demand £200m now?

Clubs know that PSG and City have a bottomless pit of money but they are still able to sign players for reasonable fees. Barcelona will value De Jong at the same amount regardless of what our budget is

I'm not sure that during official negotiations the barca board will pull out the video of him saying something in a pub to increase their evaluation of FDJ. I could be wrong byt i just dont see Arnolds comments making an iota difference. Just because we have the money it doesn't mean we will spend every last penny of it and Barca will be fully aware that we have plenty of money, with or without Arnold's comments.

Exactly. I say this every year. Always read posts about ‘if we say this then clubs will think we have money to spend’. Err guys, we are Manchester fecking United. Clubs don’t need to go to Twitter to learn that we may have a few quid. We’ve soend a billion pounds this last 9 years. They will charge us the same regardless of what comes out in the media.
