Honestly I think we just sign Frenkie for midfield and Ten Hag ends up trying to train Fred or McTominay into that role. Wouldn't put it past him making it work either tbh. But Frenkie alone would be a massive improvement.

After spending 2 years haggling on his price. Everyone involved with negotiations this summer will be desperate to avoid repeating a mistake like that too, its their first season in charge after the shitshow that resulted in signings like that. Everyone thought we'd overpaid for Maguire by about 20m at the time and it was a bit of a rip off but Leicester had no reason to sell.
You can get the 60 / 70 they'll offer now or if your lucky 80 next year after another summer of haggling and thats only if we stay true to form. Sancho went the same way.
The alternative is we move on and get 2 midfielders for the price your looking for. They're upgrades because it'd basically be impossible not to be. Spend another 80m cause we can. Get top 4 fairly comfortably because we weren't far off with our worst season in 30 years and come back next season. Its not like there aren't other positions that need attention and we probably need 2 more midfielders on top of de jong anyway.
