Oh some serious brief has just happened here. Strap in lads, cocks in hand and get ready to splat

Hadn't realised he was on 350k a week already at Barca. Thought he'd have been on closer to 200k at his stage of his career.
Jesus Christ Barca have been ran worse than we have.

Definitely makes me question whether we should be looking elsewhere. Those kind of wages on players has probably led to squad unrest at United as it is.

Had doubts it’ll happen but after today’s tweets especially from the more reliable ones, I’m convinced he’ll come now

I think we should walk away. The cost, wages, and de Jong’s ambivalence are all major red flags, in my opinion.

He's probably regurgitating what Jamie Jackson said which is more "preparing".

My guess is it'll end up being a package of €85m that gets it done.
I’m thinking they should create a “bid template” where all they have to do is insert the name of the player and the amount of the bid and fax across. Would be quicker in the long run.

This is a mis-translation. "Sigue subiendo" means "continue to offer", this to me says that it's not a new offer, just that the offer we made of 70m plus bonuses is still the same.
"Sigue subiendo" actually means "continues to raise", which suggests that we've improved from our initial offer (which was €60m + bonuses).

Apart from the most reputable journo who covers us literally just posted the other deals we're working on are for a CM and a winger.
Yeah Romano seems very out of the loop on this one. I wonder if he’s lost one of his big sources due to Mino’s passing.

We can afford A and B and us having a chance to sign him despite our shite position/past few years clearly means he is open to joining us due to Ten Hag, so C is not a thing either.

He is a world class talent who can be among the best midfielders in the world. Is a really unique player for a role we need, one who excelled and made his name under Ten Hag already, and one who would really accelerate our progress under Ten Hag by being the best possible signing we could make for a role we are desperate for.

Then you have to consider the market. Darwin just went for 100m. Tchouameni went for 100. Guys like Kalvin Phillips/Tielemans/Ruben Neves are 50m. None of those 3 are fit to lace De Jongs boots. So the cost for him is pretty reasonable all things considered.

He’ll be on 350k a week with variables. No chance they gave a 23 year old that much when he signed.
In terms of this bid I imagine it will
Be rejected and we will spend the next 2 weeks preparing another. Long way to go.

There’s a element of protocol when dealing with mega clubs like Barcelona.
We should’ve offered them the asking price rather than going in below his current valuation, plus we’re not really in the position to drive a bargain given that we’re out of the UCL this season.

I tend to agree but Ten Hag seems persistent. He must be open to coming here on some level or we wouldn’t be bothering but yeah something about the deal doesn’t sit right with me.

You may not see it that way but other mega clubs see us as a mega club too so this protocol you speak us doesn’t apply here. We hold the aces here too, they need the money and will budge and soon.

They're desperate to sell and we owe those jokers feck all. We absolutely are in a position to haggle.

why does no UCL affect Barça asking price? I understand it will affect salary negotiations with FDJ but not seeing the correlation with Barça

Reminds me of Sancho two years ago when United were confident BVB would eventually dropped the price as the summer went on but they didn’t.

What make me laugh is that we are the muppets that paid £80M for Maguire, Which doesn't give us a solid footing for calling De Jong too pricey....

Considering the reports around these "economic levers" they keep banging on about, Barcelona are in the habit of seriously over-valuing their assets.

They were expecting 500m odd for the BLM stake, and another 500m to sell a quarter of their TV revenues for however long, but it's looking like they'll get half for each at best.

So I don't think it's us playing hardball over de Jong. Barcelona expecting a profit on a player who's not been at his best for 3 years is a pisstake, really.

'Manchester United will raise their offer to 70m+ bonuses for the Dutchman

The club is still convinced it will come out'

Not desperate to sell, so it's pay up or se queda. Ignorant to keep with this idea of Barca having no hand, Manchester United paid £80million for Maguire, clubs will know this.

Ultimately I just hope this is done for the start of pre season. If it continues past that point I'll be very frustrated. I expect this will go through though. Just hope once it's sorted we can quickly get in our other targets as I'm guessing it's the large fee involved in this deal that's preventing us going forward with any others. Probably also suggests there isn't going to be much budget left after this deal.

Not surprised clubs still feel they can squeeze their full valuation out of us given our transfer business over the years.

The amount of Culés online confused and bemused about haggling over Frenkie when we spent 90m euros on Maguire no questions asked has been funny

I need to look at it a bit more but the Cope suggests that they are getting between 200m-300m for the 49% of tv rights sold. While Barcelona's twitter fandom talks about 600m.
