Think we just need to move on from De Jong now. Its pretty clear he wants to stay at Barca and we can't afford to be wasting time trying to convince him otherwise.
I dont get how we cant wrap up other targets while we tustle for him tbh.

Agree with you, but suspect there is a funding issue with us. ETH wants FDJ as the priority signing it seems. Then the other signings may be impacted by our much we pay for FDJ.

Yeah that's exactly why other deals aren't progressing

We aren't wasting time trying to convince him. Our efforts are being put into negotiating a fee with Barcelona.

De Jong would use up the majority of our budget. I can see why the club might refrain from progressing any other deals until they know that De Jong is definitely on/off.

Yeah clear as day this deal has a huge knock on effect with others

Why are United so fixated on one player that they lose sight of other targets. Every year it's the same story.

It’s been well established that we only work on one target at a time.

Under Woodward, perhaps, but we've already submitted an offer to Christian Eriksen, already contacted Ajax about Antony, and have also been working on the Vitinha transfer.

Let's assume CB is one of the positions of priority after De Jong. This is a position where most of the quality players are around the same price tag(45 - 50m) - Torres, Kounde, Gvardiol. So regardless of how much we get De Jong we are still going to spend around 45m on a CB , so there's no reason why we are not trying to get a CB right now. This is only if assuming CB is one of our priorities

It shouldn't be

A new CB is 3rd in priority behind a midfielder and another forward. That's why Timber's closer to renewing with Ajax than signing for United.

Good point. This is a pretty big deal when you factor in wages. I can see why we might want to wait till this is a bit more clear. I just hope we have sent out feelers for our other targets while we work this out.

Shouldn't have deals put on hold, however have seen evidence in this last 9 years we are working with tight budget

Have we heard from Barca about their big financial news?
I was listening to a US radio show on SiriusXM this morning and someone called in stating they were on the board of some kind for Barcelona and would be voting to approve the motion or whatever it is to sell assets that was going to raise 700-750m. Anyone else catch that and know who the hell that guy was?

Surely we had bissouma as a transfer target? 25 mil is a steal! All that money we could of saved and spent on other areas of the pitch!! Man this club is annoying at times. Spend far to long on a transfer target rather then having back ups already sorted out! Sick of hearing about we’re preparing this and preparing that! It should of been prepared weeks ago and already signed by now!!

The last time they tried this PSG took Neymar off them solely as a "feck off" message
They tried it with illegally tapping up Veratti then PSG came in and snatched Neymar by paying his full release clause in response to teach them a lesson.

They've been inserting absurd billion dollar release values into their players contracts ever since

And thats the huge problem we have. We always act like that and then miss out too much later on

Totally agree with you, we are definitely in a situation where we're giving ourselves far too much to do in a short period of time

I think signing another midfielder on cheap fees would put Barca in a panic, then knowing we could walk away might force them into accepting our initial offer.

The signing of Neymar was already prepared a year before, he had been seen on the yacht of the president of PSG.

It is incredible that there are people who believe that it was like revenge for Verrati.

And your players have had large buy out clauses way before that, as have Real Madrid. The fact that Neymar had one around 200m is the fruit of negotiations.
