Nah. He is showing plenty of toughness not to be bullied by his club. And yes I really do think the money is the first thing to sort out and yes I think the sums of money involved really are significant for both clubs as well as for FDJ.
What`s happened isn`t "toughness" it`s Stockholm Syndrome. Money isn`t as big a problem as you`re trying to make out if it`s not Messi/CR7/Mbappe level wages. It`s been reliably reported more than once he doesn`t want to leave the club.
It doesn`t take 3 months for 2 of the wealthiest clubs in the world to sort out a wage that`s a fraction of how much they spend on players.

Yeah don't forget Falcao/Martial moves late in windows, however fear you are right
You mean, you fear it’s true there isn’t enough time? I was actually putting a question mark on that.

If there’s something going on behind the scenes, there might not be that much still to do after agreement is reached. Also, I can’t see Barca pulling out purely because they can’t get Silva. They want the money and they want Frenkie off the bills.

Totally unlikely that it happens of course but I think there would be enough time if the will was there.

How can he want to stay somewhere he is not only benched in favour of Busquets but also threatened with legal action if he isn't willing to reduce salary

Money is exactly as big a problem as I’m making out. Especially for Barca. They couldn’t even register all their players at one point; the reason? - money. Now that we’ve spent a load of dough, it’s also a problem for us. Now if it is £17m plus £10m bonuses that FDJ wants then it is a lot of extra money that nobody wants to spend.

I’m not saying he wouldn’t have preferred to stay at Barca, we pretty much know that’s true. He has every right to stay there and collect his contracted salary if that’s what he wants.

If Barca had offered him, say £15m, to leave and he still said no, don’t you think they would have publicised that? They don’t want to cough up the money.

Who was the reporter claiming that FDJ had done a secret medical in London and everything has been wrapped up? Be curious how far up this hill he is willing to die on.

Does make you wonder doesn't it. Then again you have to wonder what external pressures are on him. Family, partner etc

Oh yeah there is definitely external pressures, " but Manchester isn't as glamorous as London Frenkie" kinda thing from Mikky

It does make you wonder but I still think he hasn’t been made a fair settlement offer.

Quite possibly, but thats something outside of our control
Think we are out of time for a settlement
Barca might still make some sort of derisory offer that could be negotiated up to a figure he would accept.

What I can’t quite get my head around is why Barca have spent all summer complaining about him and still think they can come out of this better by refusing to honour the money they owe him.

I just can’t work out why it’s better for them to not get him off the wages and not get a whopping transfer fee. They could easily have £50m net in pocket and have him off the books. It’s baffling. They should offer him a decent pay off and brief the media - see if FDJ blinks.

anyone else not buying this wedding story?

who has a wedding a few days before a match so you can't get absolutely shit-faced?

and presumably he'd want to invite some of his team-mates to his own wedding, and they're all supposed to be training this week

in summary: this is on

Ah yes, the classic fake wedding trope to lure unsuspecting characters into your lair, to do stuff.

Straight out of the Game of Thrones playbook.

Is he the best man?

Imagine if his wedding gift is announcing he will come to Manchester ;)

Well I guess not such a good gift since it would mean the end for Donny

Some crazy deals have been struck on deadline day. It makes me wonder why it takes so long to get deals done on any other day.
I think a lot of the delays are down to money and structuring negotiations. On deadline day, clubs usually don't really care for negotiations it seems. They just offer whats needed to get the deal done

Why on earth is this thread still so active? If there ever was A dead deal it's this one. Not happening.

So in the past few years, numerous Barcelona players have been victims of robbery.

Most recently Lewandowski and Aubameyang, previously Ansu Fati, Pique, Coutinho.. Can that make an impact on De Jong's decisions in future witnessing about (former) teammates being robbed in a city where he apparently wants to stay living so bad.

Maybe he and his teammate Depay are not in London just for a wedding. :wenger:

Yeah would say it makes him think again but looking at this summer I highly doubt it. Erik get yourself to this do and give it absolutely everything, regret it if you don't
