Just saying that from earliest times in this saga many quotes have been made about him saying he wanted to stay at Barca, he wanted ECL football, if he did move and that he would prefer Chelsea over Man Utd. Other things were thrown in about not liking Manchester but loving Barcelona and liking London, however, as with all other things, a lot of this is poor journalism. Unless either of us has been with FdJ constantly over the last 3 months there is no proof of anything. I have read that many things had been said but very, very little of him wanting to join ManUtd. I am pleased you agree it is “ pretty widely accepted he would prefer to stay at Barca “ and I appreciate that unless either of us have heard what he actually has said there is no proof either way. However, my personal take on this matter is that, for whatever reason, he has no intention of leaving Barca and similarly of not joining Man Utd. Think we are both seeing this in different ways which we are both entitled to do.

Yeah. He’ll stay there unless they make it worth his while to leave, I think.
 
Think about it... van de Beek's wedding got Mikky to actually leave Barcelona. She was never gonna leave the city the moment they got back from their vacation!

It really is crazy that we chased him all summer. I am absolutely sure that ETH and FDJ can talk to each other directly without any agents. Thus, it seems like that the plan was to make sure that Barca pay the deferred wages and we get to sign him.Now that Barca are not giving in, neither is Frenkie. A stalemate for now, but with the new wage structure, not sure how the Catalonians would want to have a mega-earner on their books. Is he on more money than Lewa is currently?

Oh yes. And his salary goes up again next year, I read somewhere.

I still wouldn’t really say we chased him all summer. Sounds to me like we agreed a deal ages ago and since then we’ve been watching, waiting and signing five other very good players.

he looks annoyed and frustrated....dude can't even go to the airport to catch a flight to england without being bombarded. funny though, he gets a couple days off and they come to london for a quick trip? irony in full force considering one of the reasons for NOT moving is the difference in climate

Beyond me how people still think it`s the money. If the issue was PURELY the deferred wages it would have been sorted ages ago. Money isn`t a problem for Utd or Barca to the extent of paying off 17m when both clubs have had blockbuster summers
If he wanted to join Utd his own will would have made the deal happen quickly. See how swift we signed Casemiro when we made interest official
The player simply has zero backbone and would rather be humiliated at his "dream club and dream city" so that he can continue being a Barcelona player

Yeah he did look a little weary but pretty dignified, I thought.

Possibly it’s weighing him down now. He looks happy when playing football but that’s probably a temporary escape from being shat on by his club.

No, I don’t think that’s true. Imagine the outrage if we were adding £17m to the Antony fee. It’s not peanuts. And it’s been said (by some random geezer) that the true figure he’d be giving up is closer to £30m (because of loyalty bonuses etc). The money is not the only factor but nothing can be done until the money is sorted.
