He's taking a 50% wage cut, being threatened with legal action over his current contract being "criminal", denied his deferral and bullied into changing a contract he has 4 years left on...
That’s all noise at the end of the day. Only slightly worse than the vitriol players face from fans on a regular basis. He’ll be fine as long as the footballing side of Barca have no beef with him. I’d put up with it for EUR17M.

He has every reason to prefer staying at Barca, from Football, salary and lifestyle. Barca really is a mecca for slick, total football.
Lifestyle, yes. Football, he might prefer the Spanish league for sure... Salary? Are you mad? He's staying at a club that has threatened him with legal action over his contract and are trying to get it cancelled to avoid paying him the money he's owed? What a club

You mean, apart from the obvious difference that 'may be' and 'is' are two very different things?
The full context (which wouldn’t fit onto one meme) means that no you’re wrong.

Both statements when read in their entirety in context are saying the same thing.

Whatever people think about why de Jong is behaving strangely in this saga, nobody can deny that he has said from the start he didn’t want to come to Utd. It is not his fault that EtH has had the idea from the outset that he would change his mind. Each of them have stood by their beliefs and EtH has been proved wrong. Unless some miracle happens before September 1st.

The "... should he leave Barca" changes the "is" to "may be"
They both say words to that effect though. I think 'May be the most likely destination should he leave',and 'is the most likely destination if he leaves' are different. The first sounds vague and uninformed. The second sounds definitive.

Anyway, not even important in the slightest. I'd be very surprised if he left at all now!

You do realize that the "new regime" of Richard Arnold and Murtough have been here for years and they were also big part of the mess that you are blaming on just Woodward?

You do realise they didn't have the power and authority that they have now, right?

And yes, Ed Woodward and the Glazers, are the ones to blame the most.

Cool buddy

There hasn't been much serious reports about anything to be fair. :p

There have been serious reports he does not want to take a pay cut. There have also been serious reports Barcelona served him and his agent formal notice of irregularities in their last contract renewal.

Nothing else after this (likely because its moved into legal territory)

In 1750 (October 5th) Spain and Great Britain signed a treaty. In addition to both sides dropping their claims for damages against each other, Spain agreed to pay £100,000 for damage claims.

Obviously this will not happen but I really find it difficult to believe he did not give a green light to us. If the wage issue was resolved, he would be playing for us now. I don't blame him for dragging this though. You don't leave 17 million euros on the table especially when Barça is paying millions and millions of euros to transfers. I think FdJ has been very careful not to publicly blame Barça because eventually they will probably end up in court.

I am disappointed not to get him. He is a fantastic and unique player. Let's hope we get him next summer.

If he wanted to join us he would've worked together with Barca and United to quickly find a resolution. The reality of the situation (he has no desire to leave and/or join United) has been staring everyone in the face for a long time, it's only that many chose to ignore it in favour of blind optimism that this "saga" has lasted as long as it has

Could've gone for Fabian Ruiz, Vitinha, Caqueret... Instead we wasted 3 months on this clown when it was obvious he doesn't want to come here from the get-go.

I don’t know if you’re doing this on purpose but you make it sound like he specifically said he doesn’t want to come to Utd. He never said that.

It’s pretty widely accepted that he would prefer to stay at Barca but that’s as much as you can really say.

As far as I know, it’s never been said categorically that he won’t leave. Barca have been pressuring him to leave and under those circumstances it’s not impossible that he would leave. If he does leave there has been no word from FDJ that he wouldn’t come here.

So it’s stretching it and putting a negative spin that doesn’t exist to say “he said from the start he doesn’t want to come to Utd”. If that had any basis in fact whatsoever, we wouldn’t have been briefing that we were confident of getting him. Would we?

Were you expecting rationality and logic? We eat chocolate-chip-cookie-sandwiches for breakfast in here, mate!

We could afford him, I’m sure, even if some creative accounting or some such is required.
Be great if we did get him but I’d be happy to wait till next year for him. Think we’ve had a decent window all in all.

1750 pages is an adequate number. But it stings me to see how close we got to 2000. When will there ever be a similar muppet thread? We were so close to HISTORY, and we may have let it slip.

Can't we just carry on this thread when the story gets revisited in January/Summer 23

See you in January

(I'm just gonna spam this a bunch of times to help the push to 2k)
