So Tom Sanderson is referring to a Spanish transfer news outlet called Futbol Total, which reported claims made by Talk of the Kop, which is a Liverpool fan account.
Yeah, seems legit... (sarcasm)

Liverpool have made an offer to Barcelona for 25-year-old Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong. (Futbol Total, via Forbes)Not a single half decent source linking him to Liverpool. It’s been dreamed up by spoilt Liverpool fans because Milner and Henderson had to play against us
A few posts above yours. So still noLiverpool have made an offer to Barcelona for 25-year-old Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong. (Futbol Total, via Forbes)
I reckon Barca placed that story in Forbes

Debating if it's a half-decent source is another matter.

Well its either they pay him off, or he stays and they pay him EVEN MORE (over the course of a season).
I think they are waiting to offload some other players, and maybe then they will up their compensation for FDJ to leave.
The most ironic, and quite frankly oddest, part about this thread is how every source that poured cold water on the transfer was discredited as not having inside information or making up stories while fanciful narratives were spun from the most random bits of positive news. Some of it was in the spirit of lightheartedness but blind optimism mixed with delusion was at its core. Treating a player deemed surplus requirements as the savior of the transfer window always seemed a bit over the top. It's without a doubt the strangest transfer thread I've ever seen and actually a good, if sightly scary, insight into the human psyche. I said this a while ago but it's followed the same trajectory as those wacky conspiracy theories, where if it's said enough times in a self perpetuating way, it becomes a fact for many people. Even when reality is smacking them in the face.

Welcome to the muppet psyche... lighthearted blind optimism mixed with delusion! Sometimes we're self-aware enough to know we're muppets and we celebrate the joys of muppethood! All other times, we hit refresh with fingers crossed and baited breath for that one glorious post from the muppet God... 'Ello 'ello 'ello! I feel like Dixon of Dock Green.
Exactly.
There is enough material in here to write a book on the psychology of tribalism, echo chambers, religion and society.
