Not off. The correct sentence is the media has no idea what is happening. Their typical approach when they dont hear or see anything, is to claim that the deal is "off".

We have to wait till the end of transfer window to see what happens. Its like a waiting game between FDJ and Barcelona.

Coming from Simon Stone though... Come on. He's practically the clubs mouthpiece.

There's an argument to be had that Tielemans for 25-30m is better value than De Jong, especially considering the wages. But then De Jong is twice the player, so there's that

Im 1/100th of the player but I can be bought for next to nothing. If we really want value then this is where it’s at!

I won’t play for free though, feck that, I want whatever De Jong was getting.

I look at Tielemans and I see Morgan Schneiderlin.

I actually was more impressed by Schneiderlin at Southampton than I have been Tielemans, to be honest.

Neves is completely different, and actually much better in his own way (one touch passing, long passing, playmaking from deep, goalscoring, creating). He's more in the mould of Scholes.

Horses for courses.
He’s in the mould of Scholes in the same way that Federico Macheda was in the mould of Ruud van Nistelrooy.

So why doesn't he see sense and go somewhere that can give him the ideal system then
Players actually do that quite often — end up at a side that play contrary to their best position/playstyle.

I’ve often wondered why more players don’t employ or outsource a bunch of stat nerds to work out which club would best adorn their skill set. First example that comes to mind is someone like Joao Felix, the slight, technical 9.5 ending up Simeone’s Atletico Madrid. Or say our Jadon Sancho who was a technical link-up player choosing Ole’s counterattacking side who had no good attacking RB to help him.

They are completely different players. Tielemans is great on the ball, technically very proficient at passing and shooting. Schneiderlin was a pure defensive destroyer and a poor one at that. More than anything he lacked technical ability so he’s completely different. Personally I think there would be a lot of merit is selling McTominay and replacing him with Tielemans who has elite talent but can be pretty lazy (think Pogba lite).

Not sure if others would feel the same but I'd be happy for the club to drop all interest in Antony this summer in favour of a cheap option (eg Pulisic on loan), if it meant that the €100m could be used to get De Jong done (plus maybe a RB and/or GK).

I'm in the same boat

Barcelona are a very strange club arent they? Cant register kounde as they need to sell someone i.e. frenkie or get a player or two i.e. frenkie to agree to a 50% paycut.

Frenkie obviously doesnt want to leave. Well not without his £17mil in back wages. Rather than leaving him to rot on the bench/reserves i.e. take a pay cut or leave they start him and play him in la liga games. What signal is that giving to frenkie? Its schozphrenic.

Strange club...

Schneiderlin wasn't a pure destroyer. Guy was spraying cross field balls and making metronomic passes at Southampton.

His failure at United has changed people's perception of him, sadly.

Its a wierd one, if he lights up the WC in november we might have missed our boat. As his askng price could be even higher. However i think personally for a forward he lacks the pace/extra gears that the very elite players like salah, henry have.

At €100mil hes way too expensive and id prefer pulisic on loan instead. Also from little ive seen of cody gapko i dont see anything special.

Nah he was always overrated and his career at Utd and beyond proves that beyond doubt. One of the most average players Utd have ever signed and that takes some doing in this era. Even at his best he was first and foremost a defensive mid, which Is completely different from Tielemans.

anyone see the Barca- Sociedad game? FdJ horribly caught in possession for Sociedad's equaliser - very reminiscent of McFred!

Also, fantastic first goal from Lewandowski

I always see this on redcafe, but does any club do that, like ever?

He may be a player they’re ok with selling and/or want to pressure into reducing their wage, but he’s still a very good player and they want to win games.

I can’t wait for the next 10 days to go quickly, so this incredibly tedious saga can come to an end.
end? it won't end if we don't sign him. first there will be a story of how we had a late bid rejected/fax machine broke down, followed by an autumn full of how we will go for him again in January...

So 2000 pages is still not out of the picture? :wenger:

Yeah you are spot on

I really doubt Xavi will do this though. I think his heart is set on someone like Bilva with a like-for-like replacement for Busquets dropped in next season.

City didn't seem very interested in taking him either and maybe he really is such a niche player than neither Pep nor Xavi think they can get the best out of him in their 4-3-3s.

Barca have Pedri / Gavi readymade to take on those roles in 2-3 years, they just need a DM. If Barca switch to a 4-2-3-1, they'd have to play a proper #10 (no idea how Pedri will do in this role), Gavi will be left out and they'd have to start Kessie / FdJ.
Busquets and Bernardo Silva are very different players with different roles and attributes. It would not be a like for like replacement at all.

We need to find a way to harness whatever is driving this thread, because we would be able to instantly render electric vehicles redundant.

I thought it had been all but confirmed that this one is off?

Nah. said it’s unlikely, which it is, however Van der Kraan said last night United are going to give it another try before the window closes.

I don’t think he’ll move anywhere but there’s definitely a bit more legs in this.

This one is definitely happening.

We bought Casemiro just because we want a DM next to FDG, now if we also bring in a player for the RW say someone like that Ajax kid Antony then this is so on!

Also a big clue that this is on is if ETH say ‘eh’ at any point in his interview before the Liverpool game thats basically his code word whenever we are signing someone…if you don't believe me check his interviews before we signed any of our players!

100% ON like De Jong

So he was disappointing yesterday and gave a goal away? They still won, luckily for him.

He was constantly caught in possession when dropping deep.

Almost like Sociedad targeted him in particular.

I've said all the way through it would get done on deadline day and I still think that's the case.

I have a small doubt about it now because we signed Casemiro but I'm really hoping we still go through with FDJ. Casemiro, De Jong and Erikson is a fantastic midfield 3....... And we haven't been able to say that for a long long time.
