I'm not counting on anything, earlier in the window he said he was certain Utd would sign Timber. So he's probably the kiss of death.

I'll just remain apathetic now. I should have stayed that way when everyone was saying what a draw Ten Hag was for De Jong when for all we know he could be like a creepy uncle.
Exactly he is shit when it comes to reliability. How can he be so shit when it comes to even Dutch players? No wonder he works for Talksport.

I wouldn’t count on him. During the Sneidjer saga he told everyone multiple times we had agreed a deal with him and it’s only a matter of time before he moves.
That was years and years ago, since then he seems to have been more reliable and he was one of the Dutch journos leading the line when it came to ETH getting appointed - seems to have a relationship with ETH.

No, we're not, but is it worth breaking your wage structure for a player you don't really need?
He is better than everyone they have bar Kante. They have Mount, Kovacic, Gallagher, Loftus Cheek and Joringho. He is comfortably better than all of them.

Feck fdj,sms and rabiot, get neves in sharp.should have been done months back.he will improve us massively. Makes sense...so won't happen.

The idea of Neves is growing on me, I must admit. Pair him and Rabiot and I think it's a solid midfield that can control matches against most teams in the league. From there, we improve the midfield further over the next year or two and we've got midfield options of a much higher standard. I'm 50/50 on SMS right now. He's a good player but it depends how ETH wants to use him. He looks like he's probably more likely to play the Bruno role and I'm not sure if he's much better, if at all.

Caqueret and/or Caicedo still lead the way for me. If I was Murtough I'd be exploring the possibility of both.

I do think it's weird that Marcel van der Kraan seems to think we've agreed at a deal with De Jong's agent whilst most other people are saying Chelsea are going to land him.

It seems like it wasn't really any news in the end. There's been quite a few stories recently that his agent was pushing this deal. I speculated that he could be the one giving us encouragement, in so far as "I think he could be convinced to join if he has to leave". But I think he was wrong and I think Chelsea flipped the script on him.

He's not comfortably better than Kovacic IMO. He's their best midfielder currently in my eyes.

Maybe they sell Jorginho to an Italian club? Maybe they switch from Fofana to a cheaper option?

It's a big old speculation game.

He is not. I too can't get over the willingness of people to take in every single random shit bit of reporting (and we all know 'reporting' in football transfer media basically means endlessly generating and running fabrications, agent or entourage machinations, speculations and dramatizations) and go with it. The subterranean level of media competency at display in people's mind is absolutely maddening.

He's been reliable for some things recently. I don't follow closely enough to see how reliable. But I certainly remember he knew a lot about Sancho.

Wow. Simple question: If you’re trying to build a team and have a choice between FDJ and Kovacic who do you pick?
Personally, I take FDJ but I don't think it's as big a gap as you are suggesting. Kovacic is an outstanding player.

Maybe so, but then you risk discontent with all your other, younger players. They'll be pushed further down the pecking order, and when the time comes for contract renewal, they'll either demand big money to stay or they'll go in search of regular football

if United match Chelsea's exact offer, then it will really rest upon ten Hag to persuade his old player.

Of course, one would have thought ten Hag would have done that some time ago, hence the club's continued pursuit.

What a clusterfeck. Never known anything like it. It's surpassed Woodward's shenanigans.
Why would we do that when we have already agreed a fee 2 months ago?!?

And when have Chelsea given a crap about young players in their squad?

You are right... but still. When the time comes and they can't spend as much as they can now, what do they do when all the talented youngsters decide to bugger off?

If the suggestion is that Chelsea are prepared to cover the money he's owed by Barca, and that would be a factor for de Jong, that would not be part of the deal we brokered I bet.

It already is part of the deal. Chelsea's deal is basically the same as ours except they're hoping to pay €5m less.

That’s my point. You haven’t done it so far. But it’s not like you couldn’t do it.
They most definitely could, for sure, but it's a very risky thing to do, because if you give one player a huge contract, others with the same skill will want the same, and before you know it, your wage bill is spiralling out of control

Most of all it's simply bad business and a poor precedent to set.

The chaotic state we're in makes everyone jump to conclusions. We've agreed a fee months ago, Chelsea soon doing the same means nothing.

It's down to Frenkie and if you try to put yourself in his frustrated, unloved and bullied shoes..
  • Have the biggest club in the world built around you with the manager who made you and is desperate for you, or..
  • Follow a yank businessman showing interest for laughs in August

The connection clearly wasn't strong enough to overcome issue of no Champions League

I thought the information put there was that Utd were willing to make up for some of the owed wages, not all.

I guess I am the only one who thinks he is not physical enough to play the Pogba role (taking the ball out of defense) in the premier league. Let Chelsea sign him IMO.

Let's send Boehly an offer for Kante or Kovacic and be done with this saga...

Either one + SMS would be a solid bounce back and vast improvement on what we have

I take some comfort in the fact that if he does choose Chelsea we will have probably made them pay more than they wanted to.

That's a very sad end to a once burgeoning muppet career.

There are no positives if he ends up with the plastics.

Why? It’s of no consequence for Utd. id rather have the WC player.
Yup i have to agree there.

I think if it comes to it, ten Hag will try his best to convince him to join United. I don't think he'll sit idly by and let his number one target just go to another club without any kind of fight
